IanT90
Quick question should the radiator cooling fan be on permanently. Thought the viscous cooling unit only came into operation once the temperature rose to a certain level ? Can anyone confirm or correct me on this. My fan is permanently on from the minute the engine is started. Regards ian
Snagger
There is a residual stiffness in the viscous hub, but the fan should spin by hand (though it will stop quickly). If you can't turn it by hand, then it has seized. They tend to fail completely when they do go, either fully seized or full free (very easy to spin with minimal residual resistance), so as long as you can spin it but it swiftly stops, it's fine. Boydie
Run the engine and, using a rolled up newspaper stop the fan, If the fluid coupling is locked the paper will shred, if it's okay the fan will stop.
landroversforever
A viscous fan will always spin a when the engine is running, but not at full-whack.
neil110
This might help, with apologies for the accent.
