reb78
Guess what my response was as this occurred on the crank pulley on the 110 (200tdi)??? Well the swear filter would filter out what i actually said Here's a couple more pics and i have the chipped part. Can i run it like this? my suspicion is it will chew the belt up. Can i repair it somehow? Stick the bit back with JB weld? I cant imagine it will really hold? Has anyone got a spare one knocking about?? I'm really annoyed! Tanuki
Time for a new one! Trust me - I've seen what happens when a TD5 pulley/damper finally lets go and the resulting shrapnel takes out the radiator/front-end of the engine/bonnet. My fleet-experience is that in the hands of a 'Taliban-taxi-driver' type who shoves it into 5th at 30MPH and rattles the poor thing's big-ends/damper/DMF he can trash a TD5 in 50,000 miles. A more-modern-engine aware driver who uses the gearlever with enthusiasm and keeps the engine spinning freely to high revs on light throttle-openings can easily manage 200,000 miles before the damper/DMF needs attention. reb78
Maybe i should replace the damper too. The rubber is cracking although there is very little movement in it. Could someone check the part numbers i have are correct? I have ERR3093 (which seems to supercede ERC6859) for the three groove pulley and err751 for the damper (Thats £450 genuine from Britcar and ~£28 from Bearmach or Allmakes or Britpart!!!!!!) western
ERR3093 http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/5277/ERR3093-CRANKSHAFT-PULLEY.html ERR751 http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/5669/ERR751-VIBRATION-DAMPER-200TDI.html?search=err751&page=1 One of the ERR751 on ebay now http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Defender-200TDi-Crankshaft-Damper-for-Pully-ERR751-/221010156006 the damper is a pre balanced item, so having a bit missing 'might' upset the rotational balance, you used a 3 or 4 leg puller then ? instead of the bolt type puller. reb78
Thanks Ralph. I'd unbolted the pulley from the damper to remove it so i could get the bolt type puller on easier. I wish I hadn't - as i was trying to very gently ease it off, I cracked that chip off of it. Then i had to remove the whole lot in one piece which is clearly what i should have done in the first place to avoid this cock up! I dont think that LRS err751 is genuine? - the non genuine britcar ones are £25 cheaper.
western
I see, a bit of bad luck took charge then, doubt the Britcar one is actually made by them, more likely it's a imported part & boxed accordingly. no idea if the LRS ebay one is genuine LR or other maker. this one states genuine part but not cheap http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Landrover-Defender-90-110-Rangerover-200TDi-crankshaft-damper-Part-no-ERR751-/361028466719?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item540ef9381f
Retroanaconda
My front pulley has an identical chip in it, has done for 60,000 miles without issue. I probably should replace it though.
duncmc
Been there and done this myself too when I had my first 300tdi many years ago, doing the cambelt. I bought a new pulley assembly, and it was an expensive mistake. I dropped it I think!
reb78
Been there and done this myself too when I had my first 300tdi many years ago, doing the cambelt. I bought a new pulley assembly, and it was an expensive mistake. I dropped it I think!Oops! What do we reckon to these? http://www.amazon.co.uk/DISCOVERY-200TDI-Torsional-vibration-damper/dp/B00IE3T16E/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1408744935&sr=1-2&keywords=Err751 Advertised as a disco part (but it is also the defender part number), it doesn't have a flat front face where the crank pulley bolts on and I can't see the 'slinger' attached to it. BUT, it is advised as a corteco part so should be good quality (are they OEM for these?)
western
looks fine to me, sat on it's forward face thars why you can't see the forward side, should be fine, no idea who makes the original that LR fitted, but Corteco is good quaility, there seals are always top of most tdi owners lists. on the Amazon page it says sold by Sunter & Morris, just looked a bit further & found these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aag/main?ie=UTF8&asin=&isAmazonFulfilled=&isCBA=&marketplaceID=A1F83G8C2ARO7P&orderID=&seller=A3S81UD2HXKYE0 3rd in page has the seal protector ring attached. reb78
I've taken some pics of the torsional damper I currently have as I can't decide whether to replace it. I think I should. What do you think?
western
if there's no rotational movement between the inner & outer sections it's probably OK for continued use, mines 20 years old has a few cracks in the rubber but is still OK.
reb78
Thanks Ralph. There is zero movement in it in any plane. It's just the 'crazing' in the rubber that makes me wonder if it should be changed.
Team Idris
With a chip on an alternator pulley I cut a piece off the other side to balance and made sure there were no sharp edges. It was supposed to be a short term fix but I don't remember changing it out. As this pulley is even bigger I cannot see why it won't drive well permanently.
