  1. I can offer a service where all items are delivered to me in UK, then tested/assembled boxed/packaged ready for shipping to destination of your choice.. Already done this for a guy in Spain, it works out much cheaper than getting individual items shipped in small boxes. My 90 is not quite a NAS spec, but it looks like it could be a model for your needs. PM me if your interested in any of the above, and good luck
  2. Do you have the brackets that come with the compressor (item 4)? Also are you putting the rest of the AC stuff in?
  3. So put the new compressor on, and then went to a well known tyre fitting place who advertise that it they cannot lower the inside air temp by 10 degrees they wont charge.. It wasn't just me they could not charge, they could not get the Defender to accept any gas... Took it to a man who operates a mobile service (Tom the air medic) near Tenterden and he estabished that just under the charging points are two valves, that need to be 1/2 open to accept gas... Anyway the Defender was sold at the weekend (put it on Autotrader on Friday night, and it was sold by Saturday lunchtime), so the fix was done just in time. The lucky new owner is getting a super 110 and its replacing his 200tdi that had rust worm in the rear chassis. Moral: just because they offer a cheap service, does not mean to say they know what they are doing...
  4. If you can wait a while Im going to be fitting electric windows and central locking and taking photos of each stage. I will also be putting together a kit for Defender owners so that they can fit just the front, or both front and back (110 owners), and the kits will come complete with all switches, relays and wiring that you need to add that extra comfort to your Defender. My kids cannot operate the window winders, they are too far down (winders that is) for the kids little arms to wind, and the rear ones are too stiff for the smalls to operate. Watch this space... (should be ordering parts in the next week or so)...
  5. I know your not in a position to get a 300Tdi, but will be putting this one up for sale next week when get the air con charged... Genuine CSW spec, 85k, been in the family since new (its nov 95 but a 96MY), it was used in Spain by my brother he bought it back once a year for MOT and tax, but been sat in Madrid for five years following a marriage split, refurbished seats, AC, just spent past few months servicing, and fettling..loads of time and ££ spent in getting it to showroom standard. They seem to be going for around the 8k mark, and as this is such an excellent rust free example cannot see any reason why this should get at least this.
  6. Gareth, I dont think we get anywhere near the money back when we sell our modified vehicles, its its rare to find someone who wants to simply buy a modified vehicle off the peg (most of us seem to want to tweak and add to our own designs). I used a spreadsheet to see if the vehicle (I had a Disco) is worth more as parts sold off on Eblag or as a whole vehicle, sadly it was worth more when taken apart than I was offered as a complete vehicle. If your not averse to taking your price and joy apart (and have kit and space) then you might be surprised as to its worth, but it does take longer to get your money and its hassle to photograph all and then list... I have passed your details to a mate who is looking for a complete 300tdi, so you might be getting a PM from someone in Kent soon
  7. What part of the country are you in Mr Renault14?
  8. Well it seems that the AC compressor has given up the ghost. The spare Disco one I had, was not suitable as it had different connections, and despite requests to breakers, noone had a spare, so Main Dealer quoted £420+VAT, and eventually we settled on £290+VAt for a Britpart one. Bugger !
  9. I use hand cutters called Q-MAX, you drill a hole, then join the two parts of the cutter together and screw them up, and you have a perfect hole in rubber, plastic and sheet metal. No mess and easy to use on thin products. Eblag'ed myself one, and building up a set.
  10. 300Tdi Had timing belt done two weeks ago by a mate who is LR trained etc. He replaced main fan belt and the air con belt. Not driven it much (at all, as not had MOT) Took it for MOT, passed ok, then got road tax yesterday so took it for a spin. Switched AC on, and within a few mins there was an almighty screech and as I was pulling over, the noise stopped, lifted the bonnet and the drive belt for the AC had snapped. The AC pump seems to rotate freely (but doesn't this have an electric clutch or something) .... Does this point to the AC pump being siezed ? I have one from a 300Tdi Disco.... anyone know a good AC specialist in Kent...? Suggestions whilst im ordering up a new belt (or two)... As additional info, the battery has a constant drain, and the manual suggests open or defective fuse/relay could cause compressor clutch problems. Got a new multimeter, so will see if anything is causing a permanent drain... (need to fix this first in case its related)
  11. The day to day car is Wendy, the off road toy is jelly, my Bro's 110 ive just bought from him is Wanda, the B reg 90 if just bought for spares is Winnie, the two ex Mod 90s and the ex Mod 110 dont yet have names.... er... I need a bigger drive !
  12. My 2002 Td5 is chugging well on 118k, gears are whiney (transfer) but the MOD police dont seem to have managed to break it so it must be strong!
  13. Oooher, fitting geary things in to gearbox myself and expecting vehicle to move in correct direction afterwards.... £225.00 for gears £ 25.00 for gasket set £ 60.00 for bearing set £310.00 all in or £395.00 for exch remanufactured unit.... Hmmmm, let me see
  14. Great stuff guys, the Disco stuff is still on Eblag and I have not bid.. The main reason for change is the transfer box whine (present in all gears but more noticeable in 4th & 5th) and with the Disco ratio should make motorway speeds easier on the ears and engine. The main gearbox is 'notchy' think this is partly due to clutch which is right on the floor and the release bearing makes itself known (mostly on startup) changing down is the worst, and getting into gears can be very difficult (downshift only) so I thought whilst its off the road with the transfer box and clutch, might as well look into changing the main box and not have any problems. (the vehicle has covered 118k (its a 2002 110). Ill see about getting a transfer box from a Disco and the main from Ashcroft (never had any thing but good advice and products from them in the past). Thanks for the update
  15. I have a Td5 110, and see from Ashcroft that the hi revving on motorways can be lowered fitting a Disco transfer box (from 1.4 to 1.2) Gearbox is a bit naff, so was looking at getting a Disco R380 and 230 transfer box and save having to split them. On the Disco the transfer levers are in front of the main gearstick, but the defender is the other way around. Can the items be swapped to get the Disco items into a Defender or should I just get both items from Ashcroft (expensive but reliable).. Any suggestions...
  16. Think this is a bit more than a dog guard. It has a compartment behind the seats which used to house radio gear, but the cover plate is missing and Id like to see if I can get another one. Thought it might be a Mantec one, but is different to the ones on their site.
  17. I suppose that my ex-plod 110 wont be a county then! It does have a body coloured roof, and air con though...
  18. Would the V5 say if it was a county ? Not sure Id want carpets in a 110! Thanks
  19. Had a quick search before posting this... Where can I find the differences between 'basic' station wagons and 'County' station wagons? Particularly 2002MY
  20. Has anyone any experience of changing a commercial to a PLG tax? I am buying an ex MoD defender which is on civvy plates, and needs to have a standard tax class? Im told you can go or write to the DVLA local office and they 'just change it over' but is this the case? On the same theme, if a vehicle is sold as a commercial with VAT to a private buyer, can the whole VAT thing be adjusted when they sell it?
  21. Can anyone tell me what the spec of a Para/Strip Down Spec 90 would be? I see that the rear tub has a 'cut out' that could be removed (aparrently for stacking?) but not come accross them before... Suggestions please for other mods/differences?
  22. On all but the 2007 model 110s? Thinking of chopping in the family MPV, and getting a 110 or a Disco2 (which I know have 3point belts for all three occupants of the 2nd row seats, but what of the 110? Has anyone fitted a 3point system on the centre seat (I know securion do a conversion but this ends up with a strap located somewhere in the middle of the load area)
  23. As police resources become more stretched, it is becoming more common place to use the ANPR systems (Automatic Number Plate Recognition). Its quite common to have a unit positioned 'downwind' of such a camera (static or mobile) and then they only need to stop vehicles who 'ping' the system for having an 'issue' with the vehicle (insurance, MOT, in trade, stolen etc). If the number plate cannot be read by the system it often pings the vehicle which in turn might affect how often you are stopped. This link is an overall guide and lists the possible penalties: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/displayofnumberplates.pdf This link explains a bit more about the display or registration marks: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/v796.pdf Hope this helps…
  24. I got one from a company in Wellingbro called Setrab, they make oil coolers, but you can get one and hoses to any length from James Lister Motorsport in B'ham (ask for Andy Berry). I have mounted oil cooler in front and at bottom of std rad, and Andy made up hydraulic hoses with automotive fittings on the end to fit the cooler/autobox. My winch (Superwinch EP9000 does not fit so far back as the one in the piccy so have room.
  25. Which Radio Cassette does your car have? For the Phillips item fitted to early Rovers, the sequence is as follows. 1) Switch on Radio: 'CODE' should appear in the display. 2) Press either up or down tuning buttons until the first digit of the four digit code appears. Press pre-set button 1 to store. 3) Use tuning up-down button to select 2nd digit - press pre-select button 1. 4) Use tuning up-down button to select 3rd digit - press pre-select button 1. 5) Use tuning up-down button to select 4th digit - press pre-select button 1. The beep should sound and the radio function.
