  1. I use knots of various kinds every day in work and have a fairly good knowledge and a quick look through has taught me a new bowline. Now to remember it..... Thanks.
  2. Might be worth having a look at Nitrous Oxide systems and how they're run. Wizards of Nos used to be very good when I played with the stuff. http://www.noswizard.com/
  3. Personally I'd find somewhere cheaper than a grand and a half to source and fit a 200 tdi (or 300....). But to be fair I've wondered this myself, alot of ex MOD stuff is rubbish, some is mint. just don't see why people think their worth so much more for something thats slower, alot louder if its tent topped and doesn't like you turning the steering wheel in a car park.
  4. She's not dreaming, but the reality may not be as good as the dream seems It's hard work, not to bad if your doing domestic and l/a type work. Alot of dead wooding, crown raising, thinning and removals. Power line utility stuff (where most of the jobs are) can be grotty mucky work with a lot of spiking and getting rained on. Don't expect to go to sparshot and come out a master climber, earning millions, just doesn't happen, She'll have to work on the ground first dragging brash feeding the chipper etc. Best bet is to get a few days with a local firm first to see if she likes it. Also have a look at Arbtalk.com Been doing it for years, it's alright but not as glamours as some people seem to think, like all jobs some parts are fun some are not..
  5. Had same issue, but possibly at a different angle. I found undoing the windscreen bolts (windscreen to bulkhead just in from the hinges) gave me enough play to line everything up. Also had every other screen to roof bolt slack.
  6. Thanks for the replys guys, The rads in good condition, it's only about 18 months old. Getting hot air through the heatrs so doubt it's an air lock, But i'll strip the cooling system down and go over it to be sure.
  7. Hi folks. Got a bit of a problem with my 300, it keeps trying to over heat when it's being worked hard i.e up steep hills, pulling a trailer or just being pushed on A roads. The cam belt snapped a few months ago, so took the head off to check. The valves seemed fine and head looked straight (it hadn't over heated). Put a new gasket on, push rods, belt, tensioner etc. Noticed that it was trying to over heat, so thought thermostat. Took it out and now it just takes a bit longer to over heat! Not losing any coolant but do seem to be losing some oil through the breather pipe (and the front crank seal which i replaced ) so wondering if oil pressure is up. Any body got any ideas what I've done wrong or what to check?
  8. Glad to hear that, ordered one this morning. Did find a place that could supply them at about $3.40 - minimum order 200.
  9. Yep, sorry thats what I meant, looking for the regulator not a new alternator.
  10. Hi folks My alternator has decided that it wants to produce around 20 volts, which is nice of it. It's a disco 100amp magneti marelli unit, anybody got any ideas where I can get a replacement unit from? Theres a few on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-VOLT-MARELLI-REGULATOR-ROVER-VERG1073-/300587962615?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item45fc7050f7 but I'm wondering if theres any where I can source one a bit cheaper?
  11. Thanks for the replies guys, looks like it was the beginners error of ungreased uj's. Should have looked there first.
  12. 1991 discovery 200 tdi, makes a scrapping / knocking sound when being driven, goes away when in neutral or when clutch is depressed, not loud but getting louder each day. My first thoughts are thrust bearing but not sure, any ideas? any help gratefully recieved.
  13. Thats the one he's on about. It's got to be an old one for the prices involved. Mike Brewer comes across as a prat at the best of times. Made me giggle when he struggled to sell it.
  14. They do, back of any brake book you'll find pad, disc and shoe diagrams. You'll also find some manufactures have online catalogues with all the diagrams.
  15. Just to beat Daz, mines gone down from a nasty £134 full comp to £125. classic policy with Footman James. I was gutted.
  16. As has been said, just get a second hand disco axle and swap it. It doesn't matter if its an early 10 spline or 24, the diff ratios are the same. It's cheaper and faster.
  17. Are you sure the misses didn't do it mate? You did steal her car first.
  18. I've just dropped a 300 into my 110 with a LT77 box. You need to swap the flywheel housing off the 300 engine for an earlier one from a n/a or td or 200. Haven't got an pictures of the engine bay handy but there is a shed load of room now, more than if you were running a R380 I think. Also engine mounts will need moving back
  19. 300tdi A good point about the turbo, could run it back then route behind the bulkhead. Thanks for that
