  1. I have never heard of ' post start heating' either, but then there IS a lot I 've never heard of. I can see the point tho. and often wondered, but never thought why, the light goes off, then 8 secs later there is a click. Live and learn, I've always waited till the click, by then I suppose its gone cold by then.
  2. This kind of reminds me of Summer! you remember, when we had a mini heat wave for about 3 days, and everyone was queing up in shops to panic buy household cooling fans, then a week later all back to normal , and fans go in the loft. i cant believe SO many people have NEVER bought a fan before. I use a rad muff, 3 stage one, at the mo. its fully closed, leave it on all year with fully open in summer. Tis only a cold snap! you havent moved to Norway!. it'll be about 10 -12 deg again in a week or 2.
  3. Holts 'EASY START' yes I know they're supposed to get addicted to it, but with the thick engine oil taking the whack out of the battery in -8 , you only used it when its needed.
  4. Hi Andy, as it says really 50/50 for me. frost isn't a problem, its more the prolonged cold snaps. I'll start adding petrol to the mix maybe mid nov, but does depend on the ambient temp at night, i normally 'top up' about 1/2 tank, so about 200 miles, I pour in 15ltrs svo and top it up 'top top!' with dino. Not really 50/50 as this can be anywhere between 170-250 miles but if its near 250 i'll stik 18-21 ltrs of oil in, not an exact science. Its great if you can do your weekly shop at the super and get 5p off ltr as well as using their oil!
  5. Just my 10p worth. Wallace has run on 50/50 mix now for 2 years. 50mpg? dont think so!, Wallace averages 28mpg on any thing, If I buy my svo for 79ppl and mix it that works out to be the equivalent of 33mpg, BUT I took advantage of a Tesco offer a while back, 3lts of rapeseed for £2.53 BOGOF!!! needless to say I ended up with about 300ltrs of the stuff, stored everywhere it is, and this works out at 42ppl, and if i use this 50/50 it equates to 42mpg.. In the winter, sort of frosty november-end feb ish, I mix 15 ltr of svo in a jerry can with 1 ltr of unleaded. WHY? well if you've ever tried pouring 15ltrs of veg oil out of a jerry can thats bin in a garage at 0 deg its a bit thick, so the petrol thins it down, which is also a good thing for the engine when its that cold. SIDE EFFECTS? no. Fillig up! the best place is out side the supermarket on a Sat afternoon, you always get the divvies that ask ' does that really work then' No I reply, that shuts 'em up. If your only doing short commute runs with the engine staying relatively cool then I'd stay at 30%veg. Oh one last thing, ENJOY that smell""" Actually there is one more thing, someone stated that for £15 a month saving 'they couldn't be bothered' with all the hassle, ( or words to..) well £15 a month is actually £180 per annum, almost your tax disc money ! i'm just lucky with this tesco stuff, 60ltrs of dino at 118ppl =£70.80 whereas 6o ltres at 50/50 = £48 £22.80 saving per tank. even at 79ppl thats a saving of £11.70 per tank. Good luck.
  6. Well my 300 110 does 28mpg, butI worked out the equivalent mpg, as I'm running on 50% veg, at 79ppl for veg ( usual price), and 115 for dino, it equates to 33mpg, BUT at the special deal I got thro tesco's with a BOGOF deal, at 42ppl it works out to a stagering 41mpg!!, only got about 200 ltrs left now tho!
  7. Sorry that link doesn't work, unknown co-ordinates. ......................Ok does now! tanks!, ooooooooops I mean thanks!
  8. I 've got a pass out on that day! its either a 100km 'HILLY' cycle ride around the south downs, or this, and seeing as 'Wallace' is ex 'SEVERN TRENT WATER' he is therefore an 'OFFROAD VIRGIN' and , well I haven't got many notches on MY belt , if you know wat I mean. So Put me down for some fun! You'll have to let me know exactly where to meet, as i aint bin before! and where to send any spondooly! ps do i have to be in a club or owt!
  9. I had my 300 pump 'tweaked ' by Van AArken about 3 years ago. I was expecting a 'kick in the pants' silly I know its only a deisel! BUT where as i could crest m/w inclines ok in 5th, I sort of had to plan it, as I dont drive fast, and usually stick to 60, and sometimes 60 uphill with a headwind was touch and go, to still be doing 60 at the top, ok if your doing 75 at the bottom tho!! But on the way home it didnt feel MUCH different, till I got on the m/way. I know there was a stiff headwind, and I was at the bottom of a long incine on the m25 around J6/7 ish and I was doing 60 behind this lorry at the bottom thinking i'd just wasted my money!, So I thought I'd overtake Hah! on a hill, Hah!, into a headwind, Hah! i'll tell you this thing took off as I hoofed it and I was doing 70 as I pulled in, In front of the lorry, Blimey !!!!!!!! did I smile! The power is right where you need it. I don't know wat the military spec adjustments were, but they always seem to fly past me, but then they prob drive flat out, as they aint gotta fix it,or pay for the fuel! I suppose if we all drove like that, we'd all fly too.
  10. Yep! sorry to say, looked much better as it was, looks like you've raided a mail order catalogue! X-plate wingtops? why, are you into wing walking! Dont know WHY they call 'em wing top protectors, how do they protect the 'valuable ' wing when you've just drilled 8 holes thro' it', Admittedly I do have them, and on the bonnet centre, but I'm always loading stuff on the roof, a have slipped more than once before they were installed. the side steps? why? are you short? Stiil at the moment its still put -backable. dont meanto offend but i'd have spent my £650 on 750 ( or 255/85) x 16 tyres, OR a rear diff locker ( but only if you were going to need it.
  11. Dont they work weekends then,??? Lazy furkin' meerkats!
  12. Agreed they do look 'kin 'orrible, BUT My first 110 I made one out of Lino, and it worked! so this 110 I bought one s/h off western I think, and there was a difference. BUT as I said somewhere before, I recently fitted some s/h csw rear roof vents from V8 Freak, and this had made a BIG improvement, as its not pressurising the inside any more. Whe its warm with the heater off but the fresh air inlet open, (not flaps), and directed upward to the screen, at about 40mph plus I can feel cool air on my face, with out the fan on. I dont get any smells in the back or water before you ask.
  13. does it have x-plate on the bonnet. if this is not sealed, when it rains, it collect under neath, then when you lift the bonnet it POURS out, and down the back of the engine!. Justa thought.
  14. re the disco 11, the td5 can, I believe, run on this, as said the usaf used them, something to do with the common rail design.
  15. OK! thanks for that, got some quite distinguishing features, ie roof rack support struts, no stripe on rear side door, GB sticker, Oh and that Cath Kidson bag in the back!. Was there ANY security on it at all????????????? please do find out,coz if there was a market product that just dont cut the mustard it would be good to know. Now Sidcup is quite interesting!!!! I'm also into VW campers, and frequent those forums as well,. Let me tell you folks that theft of old vw campers is I would say more prolific than that of landrovers, bearing the ratio of campers to LRs still on the road. They too have a Stolen section, and the worst area it seems is around the outskirts of London, Crystal palace, eltham sort of inside the m25, south west to south east. Who knows if there are the same gang, but a 30 year old camper is worth a damn site more than a 30 year old LR, How does £15k sound for a good one, more if their minters. So if you love it Lock it! i'LL KEEP MY EYES PEELED.
  16. not the offroad tyres on tarmac isit., or handbrake binding slightly.
  17. a few years ago I was working on a site, with a 360 excavator,( french one I think, name something like pacman) and it had an air cooled deisel, might have been a deutz or even a VM as it had seperate cylinder heads. Anyway there was a tank of heating oil that had to be moved at some point and the contents were no longer required, so obvious answer. BUT after a few hours the engine started to play up, missing, low on power, so the mob mechanic came outand the filters were full of a thick jelly like substance. cleaned em out and carried on. Used the whole tank over about 2 months, and the mecanic came out about 6-7 times. It never did run properly again, always sounded rough, and spluttered even on red long afterwards. so beware!
  18. Ian which quarter of Kent do you hail from, as said I'm North, ie Dartford, medway towns, Maidstone kinda place. Its funny tho' I seem to recognise the 'WOB' bit of the no.plate, so I might have seen it around at some time, but then maybe lots of cars with 'WOB' in the reg no. When mine was found it was only about 6 miles away, 2 months later, being used for burglaries in London, I kept getting parking fines long after the insurance had paid up!
  19. Listen chum, I know what its like to have one pinched, scouring the lanes, green lanes, pikey camps, at 2 in the morning in a po#y toyota yaris,. Yes I know he's trying to help a mate out, but he's not really is he! Just stating a fact really. I live in N.kent, If it was pinched in N. kent then I'd be XTRA SPECIAL VIGILANT' if you know wat I mean, but if it was in say Dover or Deal, then chances are I wouldnt see it! A vehicle has been stolen and a 'mate' is asking on his behalf, and all we know is its the KENT AREA. Kent IS quite a BIG county you know. and Yes I will keep an eye out, but A PICTURE SPEAKS A THOUSAND WORDS. And before you say it , NO I'm not being arsy, its just if it was my truck, I'd put out as much info as poss. Apparantly they had 2 goes at it' is that because it had some security device? If so wat was it , as they obviously overoame it in the end. was it a steering wheel lock, imobiliser? please dont say there was nothing but a door lock. As I said I will keep my eyes peeled, saw one today coast bound on a 'recovery' truck, metallic blue csw, alloys. white roof. MY EYES ARE ALWAYS OPEN. Good luck to your mate.
  20. Toyota landcruiser 4.0 l turbo deisel auto. You'll get BORED of NOT fixing it!
  21. 'the kent area'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! er whereabouts, its like saying 'in Yorkshire!' Noth South, East or West, and a photo would be handy if your mate would like people to LOOK OUT for it!
  22. No dont paint it Mike, just liberally smear vaseline all over it!! Years ago I rebuilt a Fiat 124 sport Coupe, ( dont ask) then I drove into someone and mullered the tip of the front wing, So I beat I into submission with a hammer and Dolly, then attatcked it with a sanding disk, and a sander. So it was back to shinny bare metal, then before I could fill and prime it (october time) the weather turned, Any way smeared vaseline over it, and 9 months later, thro a BAD winter, (bearing in mind this was a FIAT of '74 vintage, well more of a collander really) it was still shinny underneath. So I wiped it off with some thinners and sprayed it up. Looked good, till the engine fell out!
  23. Std 300 tdi, with a k+n, open snorkel and a Van AAken fuel pump tweak, goes like stink, and stinks like.... ,,, a chip shop, ummmmmm!
  24. after 2 years and over 800 ltrs of veggy at about 50%, I not had any issues at all. No mods, just pour it in, plus about 1 ltr of petrol in the winter.
  25. was out and about this afternoon and came accross aV> LARGE tesco's. I think I'll just........................ well joy of joys,It was rammed! there was another chap in there too, with the same idea, and between us we stripped the place, I HAD 58, HE ONLY GOT ABOUT 20,its all about multiple trollying,, you grab a trolley, (there free in tesco) stuff it full, then push it round the corner with some beans or bread on top, then go get another trolley , ditto, people wont touch someone elses trolley!, so when you got about 6 trolleys dotted throught the BIG store, you casually go and get one, put back the bread and beans, and go to a different checkout each time. Simples
