The beads for balancing sounds interesting. Anyone managed to source these in the UK?

Sounds like decision time - Run without an immobilizer or determine which input to the immobilizer/immobilizer itself is misbehaving?
In any case, sounds like significant progress 😉

I have a pair of front seats in the 2nd row, took some work, but there a significant improvement on what was there. Can supply the bits if you wanted to go that way.
Interested to see how you made that work. In particular if a re-bracket exercise of some chopping to wheel arches. Any pics would be awesome. Thanks.

One of my best mods was to fit Puma seats all round on the 110. We've got much more space than we had with the previous three seat setup.
Did that involve much cutting of wheel arches, etc...? Interesting to see how you managed to make that work.

Yep. The idea of getting more leg room has not gone away. Some jobs just take years to figure out...

@TSD That appears to be a solution for the 40/60 seats on later Defenders as opposed to our earlier 3 single folding forward seats.

Hi Folks,
Looking for some "bracket arrangement" that could be fitted to our second row seats to provide more legroom.
@western Noticed in some old threads (2017) that you mentioned fitting some brackets to your Landy. Are these still generally available? Google not revealing much. Perhaps I could fabricate if no longer available. Would be interested in their design.
Thanks,

I've sent the local dealer an email. It'll be interesting to see where this goes....

Hi Folks,
Just checking when my MOT expires on the https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ and noticed a recall cited at the bottom.
Defender 110 300 Tdi - 1997
Anyone else got experience of this.

I’d imagine it ensures tight enough seal to allow heat flow through the lower dash vent routing as opposed to leaking out. Perhaps more critical when trying to direct heat through to windscreen demisters.

Hi Folks,
Must confess, this had not been on my radar when driving in France earlier this year.

Wondering which rating a 1997 Defender 300Tdi would be? Thoughts?
Anyone got any experience with this?
Thanks,
Simon...

Having just done this on our 300Tdi, I can confirm that the extra holes are not needed.
Happily can also confirm that we no longer have any oil leaks from the rear crank onto the garage floor.
Some pictures to that may help. Having some threaded studs to act as guide pins helped to ensure a perfect alignment.
Used the recommended sealant by Turners also for this specific job as stated on their website.

I used Hylomar as per WSM. No silicone. 👍

@PaulMc Thanks again for the information. New bullet connectors arrived - ended up getting ones which are 3.9mm. Managed to scavenge the older connector plastic housing which fitted nicely and finished off with some heat shrink wrap.

Hi Folks,
Fitted the engine back in today. All running nicely and our Defender even moves forwards and backwards!
Thanks for all the top tips. For next time, will definitely remember the following:
- Jack up bell housing with the lowest point being 22.5 inches from the floor.
- Hang the engine with the back of the engine much lower than the front.
- Put the engine in 5th gear.
- Fitted two guide pins to the bottom of the flywheel housing. Longer one on the driver's side. Noticed that the engine when hanging has a rotational twist side to side, with the near side. When the long pin is in the bell housing, lowering the engine allows it to twist back correctly for the other guide pin to align.
- Tested the clutch plate is aligned on the gear shaft by turning the crank. You can feel that it is engaged and wants to move the vehicle.
Turned out this time it was a complete dream.
Thanks again of all the help. Hope some of the photos and notes helps anyone else in the future too.
Happy motoring.

@PaulMc Thanks for the information. Sourced some new bullet connectors as suggested. Will let you know how that goes.
Thanks,

New clutch plate arrived. Managed a little time in the garage to check it fits on the gearbox splines, thrust bearing okay and fitted to flywheel. Hopefully get some time tomorrow to fit the engine back to the gearbox. Will lube it up for sure. 🙂
Thanks again for all the tips. Keeping them in mind.

BTW - The Workshop Manual makes reference to the following:
"Lubricate splines of gearbox primary pinion with Rocol MV 3."
Not sure what type of grease/lubricant this is referring to. Google is not really helping me either.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Simon...

Thanks for the tips. New clutch has been ordered. Arriving tomorrow.
Will definitely treat this with even more care.

Hi Folks,
Got the engine out early this morning. My suspicions are that the clutch plate got damaged when fitting the engine back to the gearbox.
Suspect a new clutch plate is in order. Would be interested in thoughts.
Noticed that Turners do a clutch assembly kit (clutch cover, plate and release bearing) - AP Driveline. Anybody got experience with that.
Thanks,
Simon...

Thanks folks. Hydraulics seem okay.
Slowly pulling the engine out again. Taking my time as it's a rather warm day.

The clutch plate and pressure plate have not been changed either. So confident that there should not be a size mismatch issue as mentioned above. That must have been hard work getting to figure that one out.
EGT probe thread

Fitted one last year. Decided to weld the EGT boss at an angle to a blanking plate covering that is normally used for the EGR valve.
In this way the EGT probe can get right into the middle of the exhaust gases without having to be bent.
