  1. but a early 4 pot lt77 is ment to be almost as carp as a series box. you need a later suffix such as one from a 200tdi.
  2. i didnt think a 200tdi would run with a 300tdi turbo... or thats what i've been told
  3. well it depends how much cash you have to burn... the s2 box is ment to be stronger at holding the power and people tend to go for that. alternatively you can do silly thing slike lt77s to series transfer, but as the parts arent made any more its either a big hunt or alot of expensive one off jobs. Tonks the one to ask about this. im interested, how did you achieve a 4 inch lift?
  4. Yeah... they where cheap. they are ment to be better for motorway driving. but they are just to stiff around town
  5. im currently running pro comp es9000 dampers with my CP parrabolic springs ( 2 leaf) the ride is a bit harsher than id really like ( especially with all the b****y speed bumps where i live) has any one had any experience with using the 3000's or the pencil sized 1000's Cheers
  6. i woundered where my filing cabinet had gone.
  7. Fan!!! im trying to route out a good, but also very slender electric fan for a tdi conversion with limited space. so whats the thinnest fan assembley avaialble today( what your using/ can recommend). i beleive Pacet and alike are 70mm on a 16incher. i may consider using s few smaller over one biggun. anything considered.
  8. you dont need the tp, you can jsut plumb striaight into the housing and water will flow continuously. ok in the winter.. maybe not so ideal in the summer.
  9. managed to pull it in the last ectra millimeter using the castle nut on the back..yay
  10. replacing the bearings in my main box last night, we found that we drive the mainshaft any futher onto the main bearing, but yet the rear gear ( i beleive its first) still had a couple of millimeters movment right up at the back of the box against the thrust washer. im guessing this isnt right and theres still a bit to go?
  11. no im shifting everything above the frist memeber. it will give me a 6inch gap to fit everything. im hoping to do it with more modern thinner alu rads intercoolers etc.
  12. sorry should have seaid. this is with a lt77 and lt230 unlike what jericho is doing im planning the oposite. try and keep the prop shaft lengths the same and move the engine forwards. you can see the difference between the blue and red bell housing lines. which means im goign to have flip all room for the rad/intercooler and fan arrangement
  13. for any one else thinking about doing it this gives you an idea of the length this gives you an idea of how theoretically its going to fit BLUE = standard series gear box ( the circle represents the gear knob, and the lines to the right are the faces of the front and rear output flanges on the transfer) if you couldnt work it out RED= Lt77 ( same rules apply apart from the two knobs) GREEN= 200tdi with the nose of the water pump show, with the viscous fan removed A bit of a colour change + some bling Oh the lt77 rear flange ( line ) is about 1.5 inches further back than the standard series
  14. It now wizzes out the bell housing after london to brighton the problem i have, is that i have had gearboxes in and out of the beast about 5 times these last couple of years, and i really cant be bothered to do it again. i know its not the spirit
  15. Update: Well i drained the oil out of the box... there where no chunkcs to report But there was only about 1/4 L of oil. Automatically i checked the transfer to find it over filled on the plug... its almost as if the oil has drained from the main box into the transfer. I didnt think this was possible. but where i have been parking it on the weekends is on a very steep incline. For a landrover box it is resonably Oil tight Anyway after topping it up the noises where dramtically reduced, but still there. shifting down can still be carp at times
  16. what wall thickness tube did you use for the manifold? Cheers
  17. Sorry to hi-jac the thread. but i have discovered that my S3 gear box in my lwt makes a metal on metal (similar to the scoring noise working metal on a lathe) when shifting down from 3rd to ( 2nd or 1st) the box has always been difficult to select 1st after moving at high speeds. this last couple of days ive found myself depressing the clutch further to prevent gear crunching moments. i believe that the clutch might be slightly dragging. but i dont think it would substantiate this noise. alternatively it might have just run out of oil

    Cheers guys, a great help
  19. well heres the links anyway http://www.orrp.com/smf/index.php?topic=22888.25 http://www.orrp.com/smf/index.php?topic=21008.0 http://www.orrp.com/smf/index.php?topic=12309.50 yeah i emailed steve parker, and awaiting an answer.... 6 months ago... i havent given up hope I thought our std 101 v8 was bad enough.
  20. The disco engine dosent require any chassis cutting as the injector pump is higher up, but the exhaust down pipe requires alot more thought. as well as the removal of the power steering pump (if you need to). Theres a conversion on ORRP done by Global head usign a disco engine. that will give you a good idea. i will put a link when i can get the page up. it might also be worth talking to a guy called swops. he fitted a def 200tdi into a 88. from what i can remember the major noise comes from the wosh of the turbo and not the clang that you woudl expect. steve parker does an exhasut conversion for a disco engine into a def. but have yet to see if its usable ona series. and to be honest it looks like its been hit by weld icing. if you have the facitlites you could fab your own. look in the tech archieve for the conversions into a 90 and you will see, i think its les's shiney bling bling stainless down pipe.
