  1. Has anyone found any decent holesaws for the notchers, nice and deep ones?
  2. Trailer looks really good. Thanks to challenger for a great day, I thought the punches were really well laid out and looking forward to the next one.
  3. Great day, thanks to everyone who made it happen. Took a few pictures at the end of the day after breaking, thanks to Lucy for looking for a spare radius arm and Andy for offering the use of his. Not many but the rest are here how do you insert images from flikr?
  4. are the different ratios too far out to be usable? Currently have a 200tdi with a manual gearbox but lost a few gears over the weekend, the trucks only used offroad. I already have a autobox out of a 94 3.9 v8 so was wondering if it could get me out of trouble for the time being? Seeing as it stays in low i would imagine it would be okay
  5. mine came from Trick Tools in the states, shipping was $210 for the bender and a die and i think the import duty was £60. It worked out about £200 cheaper than a quote from Tubela i beleive. The exchange rate was pretty similar to how it is at the moment.
  6. i took a break from doing an assignment/'studying' to take a look. Had to use some serious zooooom to get some pictures but looked like a very good event It was a nice day not many but the rest are here
  7. ill be there freezing my nuts off saturday night. will there be any food sunday? Also for saturday nights feast are there town close by?
  8. they look like headman headers, i bought a set a couple of months ago from real steel for 100 cheaper
  9. i was under the impression as long as your a memeber of an MSA club, awdc for me, then you didnt need to join HBLRO. I joined last year, only used it once and now its up for renewal before the event.
  10. ive been looking into getting a JD2 model 3 and one die. Trick tools on ebay in the states will ship to the UK, the quote i got was £500 shipped, but then theres the import taxes, not sure how there worked out. Also spoke to tubela they quoted £660 which was good until they added VAT and it came to around £750 to my door. Does anyone know how much you would be charged for importing?
  11. Had a brilliant time so thanks to all involved. Bit of a cockup with wiring, abit of a rush getting the truck ready and cut away some of the front panel so i could get the winch in and out, the panel lost abit of strength. When there was abit of weight on the bonnet it came down and touched one of the winch motor terminals, welded the bonnet to the terminal, melted the wire connecting the earths on the batteries which then touched a terminal on the split charge relay ruining it, the cab then filled with smoke and i was out in a flash. Spent the rest of the day winching a little then waiting for it charge for a few more feet. Really liked the site and some fantastic pictures so far.
  12. Thanks to all for a great day. Spent most of the day stuck in the mud after the winch packing up, cheers to the chaps who pulled us out. It took quite a while to disconnect all the wires, and cut a few to change the winch, does anyone know of any good connectors to speed things up abit? didnt get many pictures but everyone loves pictures so here they are where the winch met its end special stage cleaned my co-driver up abit
  13. discovered my problems today. block tested , all seemed fine as there was no change in the fluid. I knew the gasket had gone as no 2 was blowing through to the waterway, replaced with composite gaskets but never had the heads checked so when it overheated i presumed one was cracked. After getting over my little sulk i tested the thermostat in boiling water and it appeared to be knackered so left it out and ran in up but still overheating . Took the front off the waterpump and hey presto the blades were spinning on the shaft, ordered a new pump so fingers crossed all will be well
  14. be interested to know the outcome of this. ive had the exact same problem with a 3.9, ran it for about 20mins and the temp was fine. next day started it, 5 mins later it was overheating so ive presumed the worst
  15. was hoping it would be the inlet, the pressurising didnt seem good though. Stripped her down and the inlet was fine so started on the heads. no2 has blown through to the waterway, didnt have time to strip the other side but bought a lottery ticket just in case, think it was just a coincidence 1 was not firing. It has pitted the block by the liner, do you think it will be fine filled in or would it upset the fine tolerences of a rover v8?
  16. i recently bought a discovery with suspected head gasket gone tits up. After alot of faffing with the after market alarm i managed to have my way with it and got it running. It was not firing on no1 and 5(not sure how you count v8 cyclinders, the two at the front?) Changed the plugs as they were wet and shagged, it ran fine. Got up to temp and suddenly the system pressurises and chucks some water out the exhaust, is this classic inlet manifold gasket symtoms or cracked head? Stripping it down soon but was hoping for some good news, preferably just the gasket gone
  17. We used helmets with interphones, were at no level though (team all the gear no idea). They are brilliant, only trouble is my co-driver is confused and prone to wondering , if its too far, behind trees or hills they loose connection and the instructions have to come out, nearly used to it now after two outings. The helmets are okay, abit warm so probably going to try out the ear defenders for the next round
  18. only realised just before round 2 we lost/left behind an x-zag, did anyone find one?
  19. good news .excellent day, thought alot of the punches were trickier than hogmoor with one winch but plenty to keep us busy. Thanks to challenger
  20. looking forward to it, never been to slindon. Will we need to bring a ground anchor?
  21. ive got worse, when i first started i actually got stuck less. i mainly go to broxhead, slab and hogmoor in bordon. On the paynplay website it shows mud monsters are fairly close, the website hasnt been updated recently so is it still going, has anyone been there and whats it like?
  22. sounds good, much clearer. i bought my truck as a bobtail, didnt have a clue about sva at the time, but have reworked it, rechopped and added a straight section of chassis to the rear. its nearly finished but the bit that concerns me though is the photographic evidence that its amateur built, i carried out all the work in a garage and took lots of pictures but as its in a garage does this still fall under amateur? im definately a complete amateur and dont work for the garage, its me fathers, im just a student at uni.
  23. i would say speen is a good place to start, its very small, muddy but solid underneath so plenty of traction. Theres two holes with deepish water, the smaller hole you cant really get out without winching. its the type of place you go once
