  1. Thanks hfh, kinda makes sense, the block is stamped as a hi comp rrc engine, although I guess it could be anything internally by now.....
  2. It would appear to have been some sort of arrangement like the one in item no 161288919673 on the bay..... some sort of emission junk I suspect......
  3. Sorry, you've misunderstood, the bolts I refer to aren't head bolts, they're next to the exhaust manifold ports, as if they had at some point had some sort of o2 sensor or something in them, but on every cylinder!???
  4. So, I have n rv8 from a high compression rrc, what I can't decide is what the heads are, they have a big bolt next to the exhaust ports, on most pictures of heads, this bolt is just a blank casting...... the question is, what was originally in where the bolts are???
  5. Can't help with the connections, but the old one is a defender unit, new one is disco, there are two belt lengths to cope with the pulley differences, you'd now be well advised to upgrade the wiring back to the battery to cope with the extra 35amps....
  6. I built a scaffold framework around mine, pulley block onto the bulkhead, a scaffold tube under the rear floor with a highlift. On each end, and up it went, and a week later the shiney new chassis went back under..... simples.....
  7. Wear glasses, the last thing you want is fluid in your eyes! Sounds like its either the pump, or a hose,
  8. Surely it would be easier to fit a known good newer axle, that's what I did on mine, so I knew what I had.....
  9. Mmm, I'd like to strap her down and..... Doh,wrong place for that...lol....
  10. Thanks, I might try that.... although I'm pretty sure I know that it's knackered.......
  11. Thanks, I don't appear to be able to line the teeth up, I'm getting to breaking point with this truck, think I'll put the cover back and sell it......
  12. Lt77, with lt230....... is there supposed to be a nut holding the gear on the output shaft in the transfer box?...... also, I'm assuming it's not good that I have maybe 5degrees of rotational play between shaft and gear........ can't get the gear out, the idler gear is in the way, is this due to it being a 1.2 ratio???? Thanks in advance, although I'm sure it's gonna cost me loads.... everything seems to! Ron
  13. Thanks western, that's what I assumed, however some suppliers list the same item for all diesels, and as I have this and a 300 one, I know they're not.... hence my confusion..... Ta
  14. Thanks, I think I've just about convinced myself that I need a prop for an early diesel, pre 300..... they are apparently 654mm..... Ta
  15. Thought about that, but I'm sure the truck should suite a. Standard prop of some sort, there doesn't appear to be a fully comprehensive list anywhere of lengths, closed and ideally open.... I have a gap of approximately 680mm, which seems a bit long for most listed front ones.....
  16. 1985 '90, running arc v8, with lt77, and 230 transfer box, so, the front prop is totally knackered, the problem is, what do I buy, the truck started out as a na 2.5d, so I suspect that's what I should need, however some suppliers list one front prop for almost all defender s, trouble is, I have a 300 front prop, and that is a different length, I'm a bit confused really as to what I need, any advice would be appreciated. Ta
  17. Cheers, have ordered a pair, I suspect they are blocked, as its definitely breathing out of the back pipe, and leaking out of the rocker covers, which was causing a misfire due to oily plugs, hopefully new flame traps will solve more than one problem!
  18. Thanks, can the flame traps be cleaned out, or do I throw them away.... Ta
  19. So, my latest acquisition is a 90, with a high compression classic Dr engine on Stromberg carbs, I have breather s on both rocker covers, and one on the back of the block, there doesn't appear to be a way to secure the metal pipe in the block, am I being silly??..... I want to fit k&n filters, but this pipe currently goes into the filter housing, I bought a little breather filter, and fitted the k&ns, but the rear breather is peeing oil out faster than I can believe.... Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated......
  20. Thanks, just found it.... They do a 3mm thick version, £344..... Would be worth the extra £50 if it lasted a bit longer.... Cheers
  21. Who makes the best rear chassis section that incorporates spring mounts.... Pre td5....... Ta.
  22. As above, you'd be amazed how many people think the air comes out of the bottom......FAIL!!
  23. Depends if it's the original engine, is it an original v8?
