  1. I did try search, but found nothing... What's the score with making a discovery v8 lt77 into a defender one?? I currently have one in my def with gearlevers in the right place, so could swap the top housing if its that easy........ Ta
  2. Sorry landyrich, I just asked our chairman and apparently all vehicles must be fully road legal......
  3. Oooh, there's hope then.... knowing land rover, it would either be easy, or difficult.....I prefer the former, thanks!!
  4. Hi all, new to me 90 has a 6 bolt power steering box, is a 4 bolt a straight swap??..... are the in/out pipes the same?? Ta
  5. The spring isolator won't work as its not the spring making the noise, its the top hat...... It sounds like you need either softer, or shorter internal springs, a chap in our club had them on a softop, and they were really noisy, the main springs were also too firm, meaning that the internal springs did all the work.....
  6. Uj's are designed to work at angles, that's why they're fitted!! However, I would agree that the engine should be straight, unless someone can confirm otherwise.....
  7. Anyone done the above..... pros/cons... the biggest issue i see is getting a Y piece without cats..!! from there back i intend to make my own system anyway.........
  8. On the r380 5th and reverse are together behind the main box, so def not layshaft, would be an idea to maybe bleed the clutch, if that doesn't work, change the gear oil, if that doesn't work, then try ashcrofts.....
  9. Does the oil pressure switch simply break the earth for the lamp on the dash?? the light on my recent purchase isn't even coming on, let alone going off......
  10. Odd, there should be less slop in fourth than other gears due to it being directly driven. ....
  11. Thanks, from what I can work out from the parts catalogue, the actual seatbox itself is the same apart from the possible drivers side storage options. .....
  12. Just a quickie.....are 300tdi seat boxes the same as the earlier ones, apart from seat fixings?? Ta
  13. Your selection is perfectly normal, you do not need to always go through neutral...... Light sounds like a wiring issue
  14. They should all be lt230's though, so certainly the sump washer would be the same on either ratio
  15. almost certainly an r380, is reverse under fifth, if yes, r380. T box should be an lt230 with 1.4:1 ratio. All this assumes its not been messed about with by anyone!
  16. I'm gonna admit to being an idiot on this topic, the handbrake shoes were sodden with oil and grabbing in reverse....... Problem hopefully sorted!!
  17. Mmm, i should have said i also have a van bodied truck, with bulkhead, and oddly i manage fine in that, the thing with the truck cab is the rear wondow section, which stops the seat going back quite as far as in the van. and re the headrest, even with the headrest fitted, my head would miss it totally, so don;t really see much point in having it, esp as it restricts further the seat movement.... I tried mudrails in the van for an extra bit of room, but ended up fitting rover 214sei seats, which suit me fine in the van, but simply don't fit in the truck cab....... might have to try mudrails again!
  18. So, having just bought a tired old truck cab, i find myself, (all 6ft3 of me) struggling to get into a position where i'm comfortable, i don;t seem to be able to get back far enough, i have already removed the headrest from the seat, which gave me about an inch of extra tilt, what i'm wondering is what other seats people have fitted to cure this issue, i don;t want buckets, they're too awkward to get in n out of....... just need to be able to sit right before i lash out to much on the rest of the truck... ta,.
  19. Mike, it sounds like you need to join our local club........... go to www.dorsetrover.co.uk for a glimpse at what you're missing.. !! Ron.
  20. Hi all, I'd did a search, but couldn't find any specific answer... I've just bought a '86 90 with a v8 from a range rover, along with a long bell housing lt77, with the transfer box in neutral, I have run through all the gears, reverse is making an awful whine, and when reversing it sounds and feels like reverse is locking up, and making horrible noises, is reverse a known weakness on these boxes?? I'm quite handy with spanners, has anyone used an Ashcroft rebuild kit?...... I suspect I might need s new reverse shaft and possibly gear aswells...... Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
  21. To be fair, I've been doing Alec trials for 8yrs and have yet to bend a single trailing arm, done a couple of diffs, but not arms..... Besides, my truck means too much to beat carp out of it, but that doesn't stop me from winning trials!
  22. Bogmonster...... will this help, item 8...... http://www.towingandtrailers.com/trailer-parts/trailer-couplings/spare-parts-for-couplings/parts-for-bradley-doublelock-couplings/parts-for-bradley-doublelock-hu3-2000kg-couplings.html
  23. RTV......... alrc events.....?? in which case you can't do anything to the trailing arms.......!
