  1. My v8 with only electric fans runs at roughly 90, I have a very accurate temperature gauge, my fans kick in at about 94, and go off about 91.... In reality it depends how you have them switched, and what thermostat you have...
  2. What's the relevance of the 30yrs thing??
  3. low oil level won't create bangs and lock up unless something actually broke getting stuck between two cogs
  4. Certain noises won't show up without load, some will, but not all.....
  5. Try removing it, I never found they do anything.......
  6. Try warming it up a bit, the grease in them might just be really stiff, don't heat it to the point of damaging the seals, just nice and warm....
  7. Thank god it's not only me......lol
  8. Might sound daft, but have you looked at the rear axle bushes??.... worn radius arm bushes often show symptoms at the front!
  9. Having looked closer st the issue, I now feel like a prick, I managed to fit 7/8 the wrong way around.... Muppet!!
  10. Is anyone else getting beyond fed up with the poor quality of parts these days, I just bought and fitted a set of 'non blue box' v8 exhaust gaskets, fitted them, and every port is blowing, as the port holes aren't in the right place in relation to the bolt holes..... those that have done this job will appreciate just how fiddly it is.... I'm not amused!;
  11. Its a bit tired yes, but would go well enough in 4th, just wouldn't maintain 70 in fifth, it lacks the torque of the diesels.....
  12. Yup, that's what it had, now has a 1.22.... it wouldn't pull fifth, with 235 85's..... hopefully it'll be better now, if not, next step is 1.4....
  13. Might sound daft, but check that the bolts on the pulleys are tight, sounds like a loose pulley, but I would have expected it to have fallen off by now if it was.....
  14. Decided to remove the epoxy, plate had a hole in it, so looked inside, everything works, so removed the plate from another t box, job done.
  15. I acquired a disco t box to go on my v8 90, I am just cleaning it up, and noticed a dollop of some sort of epoxy type gunge on the plate on the side of the centre diff, any particular reason??... obviously don't wanna fit it then find its terminally busted, hi and low engage, as does difflock..... Ta in advance!
  16. I had it on mine, tried everything, the only true cure was to get rid of it, I literally tried everything, won't be getting another anytime soon.....
  17. Mines a carbed engine, I'm going to use 20/50, the engine is old, and an old design, they didn't have fancy oils when it was built/designed.....
  18. Correct, fuel will not come out of the injectos without turning the engine over, the pump distributes the fuel as needed, unlike newer electronic injectors, they are not fully pressurised all the time, only when the pump dictates, bit like a distributor on a petrol.....
  19. Thanks guys, good old fashioned 20/50 it is then, engine is filthy internally, so might use something with a detergent element and do a few close together changes..... Ta
  20. HI all, sorry to ask a question which has without doubt been asked before, however i can't find results in search, my v8 is an old 3.5 RR one, with a slightly higher mileage, i only recently bought it, and have just about got it running nicely, the next thing on the list is to change the oil, do people have a prefered oil for an older engine...??? Thanks.
  21. The rear prop is held firm by the handbrake, the front however isn;t, the centre diff allows it to turn in relation to the rear, and the front cv joints, splines on shafts, and play in front diff will all add up to quite a bit of rotational play in the prop, ignore it, unless the play is in the uj's on the shaft!
  22. http://douglassmotors.co.uk/Winch-Bumpers-and-Winches/winch-defender/tech7000-defender-rear-winch-bumper Not cheap, but seriously good quality!!
  23. Didn't you move the steering wheel??....... Me thinks that's where your issue is.....
  24. The egr module has a multi plug, not individual wires..... See if any are live with engine running, if not, connect to earth and see what happens, dash lights etc....
