  1. That'll be an excuse to slap another tax on it...that's why they are brining out old information again. As said above, I was told about that 15 years ago when working on diesel fork trucks in enclosed spaces.
  2. That requires the internet and a screen, and forward planning... Reading a map when trying to navigate to a destination in a city centre is getting a bit of a pita with all the bus lanes, no where to pull over and check, volume of traffic, etc. That and I don't have maps for every town and city. Also people are carp at giving directions anymore, they think a postcode is fine and I swear most people don't have a clue where they live if you asked them to give you proper directions! Anyway, settled on City Navigator for the cost and the fact I can move the route to the one I want to take etc. Just the job and for £25 cheap enough for what I want. Cheers, Martin
  3. I quite like that idea as I could mount a front towball as well, then I'd have winchinch capapbility front and rear depending on the situation. Could yoy get away with an anderson connectore at the fron, and a really long extension lead to the rear? I guess that set-up would allow the winch to be shared amongst friends as well. Sounds like a cost effective option.
  4. I've looked at the suggested options and it is a toss up between ton tom and copilot I think. I've downloaded the free copilot (which is just a fancy google maps) to try, but it says I need to register before using and guess what...that requires the internet! Looks like a McDonalds coffee and free wi-fi are in order...
  5. It's free so has to be worth a try. Thanks.
  6. Bargain, be great for pulling stuck suzukis out
  7. Hi all, I've got an i-pod touch and tom-tom gps receiver cradle for it so now I just need an app. I have seen city navigator which looks very good in that I can move the route and see the full map just like using google maps - so I can plot my preferred route when starting. Just wondering what peoples thoughts were about it if you are using it? Or can you recommend another? Tom-toms own is twice the price. The AA do one which looks like city navigator. It MUST be able to run without internet or wi-fi or 3g or whatever. Needs to operate as a standalone system. If I can input grid references as well as postcodes that would be really cool, but not essential. So, any recommendations? Thnaks, Martin
  8. I haven't seen that, will take a look. Thanks for the recommendation!
  9. Ryck, yeah the giants are 7" but the ones in my link above are smaller, rectangular ones. I was going to get those to mount in the grill but decided against it. Ring do a 5" round spotlight as well. Have a look at the Halfords link. I think that they are good value for money and haven't had any leakage/rust issues and they have had plenty of dunkings!
  10. If you don't want to do anything extreme I'd just go for a standard disco 24 spline axle/shafts. Not sure I see a need to spend money on aftermarket half shafts. I love my LSD but I have traction control as well. If one wheel is in the air with a LSD you need to apply some light brake pressure as there has to be some resistance for it to work. I'm considering an ashcroft lsd in the front next as it's cheaper than the truetrac. I do like LSD's as they are fit and forget. I do tend to eat diffs, but the truetrac just works. Again, I never uprated the shafts so... Are you sticking with standard tyres? That's a consideration. Large aggressive tyres could be justification for upgrading your halfshafts but if you're sticking with AT's the tyres will give before the shafts.
  11. No, didn't win them. I've painted the rim silver and it looks good for now, and only cost me a fiver I'd rather not have any cover but the salt over wither sprays up and corrodes the wheel on the rear door quite quickly. Thought a cover might protect it a bit, but it's got LOADS of paint on now so might be ok. Will keep my eye out at teh Bristol show if I get, and ebay now and again. No rush, been without one for this long! Cheers, Martin
  12. I think it's based on the taxation class. Probably more complicated than that though knowing this country
  13. My mate used some plywood to make boxes to go where the diki seats are. His are full height and fit loads in, but I think I'd just put a piece across about 8" high and have an open cubby for wellies, bags of shopping, shackles, etc.
  14. I guess. Still sad to see. It has been suggested that it was beyond repair/accident damaged. I guess it could be but I'm sure an enthusiast could have fixed it, even if a new chassis was needed!
  15. Yup, thankfully the fixed speed cameras can't tell if your driving a commercial or passenger vehicle though. At least not for the moment...
  16. I have the ring rally giants and am very happy with tehm for the money. I did look at these at the time though: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_211784_langId_-1_categoryId_165688 If you are selling your 8" lights I might know someone who is interested. They'd have to be "cheap" though lol.
  17. It's not just a rollcage he's selling, he's stripping the whole discovery I had a text from my mate and didn't believe it. I can't believe my eyes. WHY would you strip a genune CT disco?? i am genuinely lost for words http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAMEL-TROPHY-DISCOVERY-ORIGINAL-ROLL-CAGE-/221040531340?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Touring_Travel&hash=item33770ad78c PS - not posted for commercial reasons, I have nothing to do with the seller obviously, otherwise I'd stop him doing it! I am genuinely interested and perhaps someone knows this vehicle or might know if something fishy is going on? I really don't understand why you would strip it.
  18. Hi all, Does anyone know if the D2 antenna (it is part of the rear window) is ok to use with a DAB tuner? Trying to plan things with as little kit as possible so looking towards a DAB headset with bluetooth, keep things clutter free. Don't fancy an extra antenna though. If you have DAB can you recommend a stick-on antenna? Would it work in teh alpine light at the rear of the vehicle or if they do have to mount in the front windscreen are they ok with teh heated window? Thanks, Martin PS - if anyone has DAB radio with bluetooth I'd be interested to hear you thoughts/recommendations of the product.
  19. Thanks Brookers and Jason, that is great value! Just need to find a friend to share the diesel with
  20. Hi, looking at the booking pae, for two of us would I need 1 camping pass at £35, and one weekend pass at £15? Or two camping passes? I didn't think I'd make a show this year but I'm very tempted to make the LONG drive down and maybe do some rock climbing whilst I'm in the area. Cheers, Martin
  21. Got the griffin USB thing yesterday and it does the job. Very tight fitting so doesn't come out when you pull the usb leads out, and it does charge my ipod touch (apparantly some similar devices won't). Sits about 4mm proud, so not quite flush, but not a problem. For under £4 delivered it does the job just fine!
