1. Sorry to disagree, but I found that my D2 had a low speed wobble and searched for ages looking for the problem, only for my mate to point out what looked like a missing wheel weight. He was right.
2. Missing wheel weight would be my guess
3. Not true. If one is fitted it has to be near side and fog lights off side. These can be mounted next to each other in the centre of the vehicle, so long as the fog is on the OS and teh reverse is on teh NS. If two are fitted they should be equal distance from the sides of the vehicle. I'll try and dig out the official document later, but I read up on it when removing my bumper and fitting body mounted fog/reverse lights. Obviously your 55 watt work lamps have a seperate switch for highway use as they would be illegal as reverse lights
4. It's hardly a secret on the D2 is it...it's in plain sight.
5. Give TD5 Alive a call, there will be one in the post the next day... I had the same problems with IRB I'm afraid, and that was two years ago so guess not much has changed.
6. Need to do this with teh fire engine soon, so thanks for the write up. Not such a big job when you see it done. I shall give minbe a coating of rust concertor and then loads of grease between the leaves, then waxoyl all over them! Still bet they rust though
7. Jigsaw should do it if you have one and it's got some oomph. I second a circular saw for straight cuts though, my RAGE saw is brilliant for this sort of thing!
8. I am going through the same yearly trawl after my insurance company doubled my premium this year (what a pita it is every year having to move!). anyway, did you reaise that notifiable modifications include a towbar (they are not standard factory fit)... I wonder how many of us have told are insurance companies about that, honestly? As you say, teh second you select "yes" to any mods, even a towbar, you can't get a quote online. I'd best check Adrian Flux out
9. Just check the usual, diesel in the oil, oil in the water, as cylinder heads are an expensive fix when needed! Apart from that, go for it.
10. No better feeling than been able to afford to tell tehm to stuff it where the sun don't shine is there Well, only the feeling you get when someone genuinely tahnks you and appreciates what you have done for them.
11. I'd spend the money on new shocks. On the TD5 I got a full set of new shocks with bushes already fitted, for the same price as a set of shock bushes. The new shocks improved the handling right away (mine had 145,000miles by then, so I guess they had lasted well! One more thing to consider - do you have an anti roll bar fitted? Maybe the previous owner removed it from the rear?
12. Personally I think that by the time you've used their primer (or key), the POR-15, and then chassis black you've spent an awful lot of money... The stuff I used in the pics above acts as a rust convertor and a primer, and it paints over nicely with whatever pait you like (chassis black if you want). POR-15 might be great stuff but it was just too expensive for me to consider in the end. And I don't think that my method is a compromise either (before all of teh "you get what you pay for" gang come along"). You can buy a small tin for £5, give it a go and see what you think. I bet when you see how easily it goes on and the finish it gives you'll be back for a bigger tin!
13. No, I finally went to Toolstation and bought their rust convertor for £20 a litre. For low wear areas this is enough on its own. For high wear areas such as axle casings I'll be adding a coat of the cheapest black metal paint.

My use of it so far is, in my opinion, perfect, and saved me a fortune!
14. I agree. Mines getting a "tidy up and running repairs" rather than a fulle museum piece restoration. They are working vehicles and I want to keep it that way. If I was keeping it I would seriously be looking at a 200tdi conversion for it for sure, with an auto. I'll follow this thread with interest
15. Just a few pics to show progress is ongoing. Had a month off because of personal issues but getting stuck back in now! I'm focused on painting the bits that are already off the vehicle and getting ready to put the cab back together, as well as tidying up the radiator and under the "bonnet". Next step will be remove and replace each wheel one by one, giving the brakes and suspension a check over one corner at a time. And probably more wire brushing and painting!!
16. Good off road, a good daily driver, small budget... some decent tyres should do just nicely. Don't see teh need for anything else
17. I put a truetrac in the rear hoping that would be the end of it...it was for teh rear, now it's the front diff that has the problems I shall be putting a truetrac up front as soon as possible.
18. Don't forget to inform your insurance company of the change.
19. Same thing has happened to three diffs on my D2,
20. I've got a spare straight six you could put in it I can see why you'd want it as a daily drive though, I've onlky driven my S3FC a little bit but would love to go to the shops in it and tootle around town Something about the high driving position I think...They are supposed to be remarkebly good off-road as well but I'll never be trying that. Power steering would have to be a priority though. I'd be interested to know how you get on with a 300tdi auto. I guess anything is possible.
21. I'm ready to reglaze my door top now it has been sprayed red Has anyone found the plastic channel cheaplt at a DIY store or similar? I've found aluminium channel but not plastic.
22. How can they be re-opening elsewhere with such bad credit, trading standards already on their case, etc etc??? This makes me mad
23. As did last nights session in Grimsby...oh how things have changed (for the worse)
