I just got some elastic "bunggie" rope, Drilled hole's in the bonnet and threaded it through. It seems much more secure than the cargo net I used before, doesn't fl;y off when you pull the winch rope out in a hurry and doesn't get stuff tangled up in it as easily.
If you have big tyre's there's only one way forward. 24/23 shafts and uprated C.V.s from Mr Ashcroft (as above posts). I bought front and rear shafts but thought id make do with the AEU..... C.V.s They are good but the first time you end up on ya nose stuck in a hole and think "I'll just lock the front to reverse out of here" they'll give up the goast. Do it all and save the hastle of trying to get a stuck landrover out of a deep gully in the middle of nowhere with one wheel locked up and bits of C.V. jamming the steering. Then you have to change the C.V. in a muddy wood and fish out all the brocken bits, probably in the rain if your lucks anything like mine. Ive now got ashcroft everything in my axle's and (touch wood) use the lockers with confidence.
I run 36/10.50x16 on modulars and had the same trouble with lock. I fitted 30mm spacers. I know people don't like them but they are the same as running a wheel with more offset as far as extra leverage over steering/wheel bearings are concerned. Ive heard people saying they come loose but I check mine every time I have the wheels off and they have never needed to be tightened. think it depends on how well you clean the hub before you fit them.
The problem I did find was the extra offset caused the tyre's to rub the bodywork everywhere but Ive tray backed it now and moved the front wheel arch's up 2 inch's.
Misfit! Thats by far the nicest thing ive ever been called!!!!
BTW im well up for it again, Wasn't our best performance to date with a couple of mechanical issues (sorry to the rest of the team) but it defo was an excellent day!
Well its funny you should say that coz the reason I was askin was...........How about a few beer's around a bonfire somewhere afterwards before passing out in a tent! I would say back to a pub n B&B but we'll be too late for that!
Dont spose there's anyone out there with a picture or two of my truck on the event? The Mrs took the P.C. when she left (got a new one now, P.C. that is!) which had all my photo's on and I dont have a single piccy of my truck any more! I never seem to take any myself as im usually stuck inside.
