  1. Hi Antotny110, Tried this when I had a P38 a couple of years ago. Overfinch do them but are very rare and expensive. There was an independent land rover specialist selling them a couple of years ago (sorry can't remember their name). Rang up and enquired - told it was an easy fit. Parts came very quickly (basically looked like a defender bench seat!). NO fitting instructions, no seatbelts, bolts anything. I was a bit up against the wire for fitting it time wise. Started stripping the P38 and soon found it was going to be a complete bast***d to fit. Range up and then was told very difficult to fit - managed to get refund but they were a bit off about it (I love the British attitude - sell something that was a carp product, didn't fit, not fitting instructions, poor advice etc......). Anyway, moral of the story - research very carefully before you start pulling your P38 apart..... Oh and also might be worth checking with insurance company to see if they will cover it before fitting. regards Darren
  2. Later floors were steel anyway - some people fit disco ones but I think they are different lengths?
  3. Hi, I'd go with what daugs said, especially if you're going to be doing anything structural. I did a local City and Guilds and yes it was worth the money. If you don't have access to a course locally, then try setting the current and wire feed high and blow a hole in the test piece and work back until you don't. The test piece needs to be nice and clean with a good earth and the set should sound like frying bacon when the ammpage and wire speed are right. Another good site to check out is the Mig Welding Forum where there are loads of guys (including professional welders) that are more than happy to help. From the pictures in the post the test pieces on the right are definitely heading in the right direction - just need to make sure you've got enough penetration so ideally all test peices should be welding two pieces of metal together.... Keep up the good work! Darren
  4. Hi, I run Argoshield on a pukka bottle on my BoC account - my mate has a BoC bottle that he "aquired" - same size. If I let him fill up on my aco**** am I going to get stuffed for the rental - currently £70 per year for Size X bottle? Happy to let my mate have the use of my aco**** - just don't wanna get stung for the rental - anyone else had an expereience of this? cheers Darren
  5. Hi, I brought on I while back (sorry can't remeber who from) - it was about £130. Rang them first - told it was real easy to fit. When I got it there was no way it was going to fit without a lot of work - when I range and complained not only did they then say it was a lot of work but they got funny with me for complaining! It was bqasically a simple bench seat with a folding back, no seat belts etc..... Just bloody typical of what happens in this country! P.S. If you do find one it might be worth checking with the insurance company and I know that Series 2 Discoveries that have the thrid row seats retro fitted don't meet type approval unless they have the air suspension on the back and the suspension computer re-programmed. Good luck with the hunting!
  6. I had a 2000 County diesel - the skin of the tailgate seperated from the frame - it started bubbling at the bottom and next thing I know the skin had rotted through where it was folded around the frame - the vehicle was just coming up 6 years at the time - not bad for a vehicle that cost £47K new! (not that I paid that for it). For day to day transport I'm afraid I went Japanese. I found that the P38 was just as (if not more) unreliable than the 26 year old Classic 2 door I also had at the time!
  7. Hi, Had a D2 some years back (T reg) and the ABS light kept coming on. The dealer cleaned the sensor which didn't work. UIn the end the main dealer siad that the ABS modulator was shot - £1450 plus VAT and fitting - you don't want tp go there! Heard recently from a chap at Mansfields that you can get recon ones for £800 but it's still silly money! Hope for your sake it's not that part. cheers Darren
  8. Bottom tailgates are as bad as the classics. Had a P38 County (diesel) on a V plate and the outer skin parted company from the shell. Personally I'd say that the reliability of the other stuff was more an issue than rot!!!!
  9. Obviously what ever someone is prepared to pay, but to put my neck on the line here I would say between 7.5 and 10K. A while back fully restored or genuinue Velars were fetching 12-15K. If I knew then what I knew now I probably wouldn't have started bobtailing mine (benefit of hindsight....), but she was rotten everywhere and I still think that they look better with a shorter arse! Happy bidding.....
  10. Asked the question of Dave Ashcroft a couple of years back - his response was that the LT230 was the strongest transfer box of the two, so guess what, sold my Borg Warner and brought an LT230 !
  11. I blantantly copied the Devon 4x4 trayback method on my Rangie axle - if you're reading Mr Buck & Co - "I am not worthy...."
  12. cheers Nige - I'll start with the low power settings on the Mig !
  13. Hi, I'm planning on welding some additional brackets onto the rear axle of my Rangie (24 spline ABS approx. 1998, so metric) in a similar vane to the Devon 4x4 Trayback to ensure the brakelines don't come un-attached. Does anyone have any idea how thick the casings are? I have a 150 amp MIG with 6 settings so any help on settings appreciated. cheers Darren
  14. Daan, Well done. I'm in the process of building a bobtail Rangie so was a little concerned about some of the stuff I saw on other threads here. I've brought a lot of my parts through ebay over the course of many years - hence no reciepts - is anyone else in a similar situation ? I'm hoping that the bob will SVA ok when I finish it (only just started in anger) because apart from the 15 inch diet on the rear everything else is standard Range Rover parts from a later model. cheers Darren
