  1. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for getting the sills welded in Cambridge or surrounding areas. I've been waiting since mid September for my "Classic Car Specialist" and I'm fast running out of patience. I used this guy because one local specialist quoted my £1600 plus "extras" and another didn't even quote me at all (obviously didn't want the work). I can weld but being self employed I can't spare the time. Apologies for the rant but in the environment of economic doom and gloom you'd think people would want the work, and have the courtesy to get back to you or give a half decent quote. Admittedly a third specialist did come back to me and said he couldn't do it as he didn't have a four poster ramp. I'm happy to trailer the vehicle but I don't really want to go more that 30 - 40 miles to get it fixed. cheers Darren
  2. Hi, Check out the garage gallery forum at http://www.garagejournal.com/ - more than enough ideas to get you going and some seriously nice garages to be envious of..... Darren
  3. use the search function to find loads of threads on it at mig-welding-forum here's the link to the pictures:- http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/album.php?albumid=910 cheers Darren
  4. Hi hutchey, I'm going to be in Kent (Friday to Sunday) to see the father-in-law - if you're around then maybe we can sort something out for a pickup - photos definitely appreciated. regards Darren
  5. Hi Yes it's a Range Rover Classic 4 door 1992 - are the sills complete? i.e. inner or outer or both? Any pictures appreciated. Where abouts r u? cheers Darren
  6. HI All, I know that this was covered in a previous thread, but it was back in 2009. Has anyone had the sills replaced on their 4 door recently? Any guidance on time/cost. Also and recommendations for good welders in the Cambridge area also appreciated. cheers Darren
  7. Hi All, Just coming to the end of fitting my extended brake lines on my 92 Range Rover Classic. THe kit containing the two rear lines also has two nuts and two copper washers. I know what the nuts are for but not sure what the copper washers are for. If I fit them on the axle end of the lines the copper washers are still loose. The original flexy pipes came off didn't have them on so I'm assuming that they go on the body end to stop the hoses seizing t the bracket on the underside of the floor. any help appreciated, as the pipes didn't come with instructions.... Picture shows one with, one without - which one is correct? thanks Darren
  8. Hi All, Just getting my 92 Classic SE ready for it's next MoT. Currently renewing the brake lines because they were corroded and when I tried to fit extended stainless lines to match the suspension lift all the unions were seized! Anyway whilst working on the front of the car, I noticed these two areas:- Front nearside Inner wing Front offside sill support On my old two door the inner wings bolted on - these later ones are welding. Do you guys think that these will fail the car on the MoT due to their proximity to the body mounts? The front offside sill support is just starting to open up in the top left of the picture - sorry the picture is not that clear. Thanks in advance. Darren
  9. Can you get a nut splitter over the nut (assuming that the nuts are on the chassis side of the rear cross member and not the bumper side....
  10. Hi Guys, Yes you're right I was after a straight swap - only code there's some disco doors going cheap nearby and the nearside rear one on my 92 Classic has rot in the shell. Thanks for your help, everyone. cheers Darren
  11. All, As the topic says, are Mk1 Discovery Doors (4 door model) interchangeable with Range Rover Classic 4 doors? cheers Darren
  12. I've been quoted a minimum of 4 hours labour to fit the 6 flexy lines to my 1992 Range Rover Classic with ABS. Is it me or does this seem excessive? I know there can be issues with corroded brake fitting but it's not like most garages aren't geared up for that sort of thing, or are they not? I'm interested to hear other people's experiences.... cheers Darren
  13. Sorry guys - typo not 10 but 19 - it was an auto - but you'll area still carp. Everyone says 27 - 30 out of a P38 when it's chipped, but they always forget to tell you hat its a manual and they drive it like a grandad!
  14. Guys, Thanx for that. Forewarned is forearmed as they say! cheers Darren
  15. Old Hand, Thanx for that. Conversion was done by previous owner so I can't revert back easily. I'm running 235 x 85 tyres so it sounds like I will need to add the bump stops as well! Any issues bleeding the ABS as I'm sure that changing the hoses won't be as straightforward as everyone thinks it will be! cheers Darren
  16. Hi All, Just brought a 1992 (K) Range Rover Classic - was air sprung but now converted to coils with a 2" Terrafirmer lift kit (coils). Does anyone know if the brake hoses have to be extended or are the standard ones long enough given that it used to have air spring on it? Also would I need to fit extended bump stops as well? thanks in advance Darren
  17. Chris, If you're gonna buy a P38 diesel then make sure it has been chipped - we had ours down by superchips - 10 mpg turned into 23 and no flat spot between 2000 and 4000 rpm! Shame that the rest of the car didn't keep on working properly..... As the other guys hinted, when it comes to P38's "if theres doubt there can be no doubt....." good luck Darren
  18. Hi Guys, Had a rumage and found 3 lengths of rubber pipe - internal diameter just over 70mm - 12", 14" and 24" in length. Longest length is the same at both end - the two shorter ones are narrower. I had another one of the long lengths fitted nicely over black rainwater downpipe. Please see attached photos and let me know if they are any use to you. regards Darren
  19. Hi, I've got some rubber hose that is new got several lengths when I built the snorkel for my last Range Rover - fits nicely over rainwater downpipe (the black stuff). Lets me know what diameter and what length - maybe it will fit. If so we can do a deal? cheers Darren
  20. Hi Bobtail, Like the rear wheel carrier - any chance of some more pics please? Did you make it or did you buy it? cheers Darren
  21. Guys, Sorry for my ignorance - but what is the "camel cut". I've recently purchased a classic with 235x85 tyres on it - did you guys have to adjust the steering stops on the swivels to stop the tyres rubbing on the radius arms? I know mines a Rangie but basically the same car underneath.... cheers Darren
