This is one area I'm happy to concede that chequer plate is worth fitting. The wing tops as they are just aren't man enough for standing on.

My 110 has a pond on each wing after a shower. I'm planning to fit chequer plate at some point. I'll need to force to wing up a LOT from below to make it meet. Then rivets will be installed in appropriate positions.

I agree though centre of the bonnet is useful especially if you have a roof rack. Painted body colour makes them more bearable too. If I were to do it again I'd use plain Ali and paint it non slip body colour.

We must "assume", without any engine information, that it is an aluminium head, so the fastener thread strength is of no concern.

Like I say, the biggest problem is the zinc coating melts.  Best to be unplated.

I guessed what engine they were off hence my comment.

I seem to remember you both telling me that normal cars were just far too boring....

I don't want a normal car but work and school runs have been a problem. Plus we have other issues that consume vast amounts of time so maintenance time is at a premium.

  4. Doesn't suit you due to the overdrive but I have a fairey 525 pro driven on 45 and an ep9 in the ibex. The fairey is aweome but slow and will pull all day (I use it for boat movements at work). The ep9 (had one on the to cat as well) is much more useable because it's quicker and you don't need to be in the cab. However you need a twin battery set up and to be conscious of heat build up.

  5. I think my early 110 (83) has the same style lock washers on the stubs. Which says rrc to me too and lack of bronze bush says rears.

P.s. later stubs had seals in the back so that makes these oil fed wheel bearings.

You've swapped so many chunks of car around it's like playing Land Rover tetris!

You ain't kidding but they are both running at the moment. Still don't know what to do, whether to sell (probably) 45 and get a normal car (for the wife) or to stick with it.

  7. Used the rad out of the 110 as it was watertight but tired. Swapped head with one of the others because of the core plug and I suspect it's warped. But got it done and back on the road. However the wife pointed out this morning she doesn't like the death wobble. Guess I'm doing panhard bushes tonight.

Changed the screen last night with help from the wife. Thanks to a friend for giving and delivering it to me.

What you have suggested may we’ll be my problem . Is there an easy way to identify this ?  Obviously other than your clutch pedal goes soft .

If you pull the slave out you might be able to see/feel. An endoscope would be great. But otherwise it's eliminate everything else first because the gearbox and engine need to be split.

  9. Rubber collected form gotts this morning, discovery scrapped lunchtime and remaining bits of dead engines collected from tsd. Hopefully a friend is delivering a screen this weekend. Finally if the weather behaves 45's head gasket tomorrow it would help if the radiator I bought this week was actually a 200tdi item as opposed to the Lord knows what that arrived today.

  10. The land rover goo is not a polyurethane (tigerseal sikaflex etc) but these will do the job provided you don't need to get the joint apart again. Arbo do a polysulfide (arbokol) and a mastic (arbomast). The former is half way between rubber seal (sika) and mastic. Arbomast we use on rudder heal fittings so its water tight but can be removed easily but it is sticky and messy.

  11. To be honest half the reason for this thread is to entertain others because you can't make this up. But also for me to vent which helps me suck it up and move forward. I could give up buy a normal car but that's not me  and the personal life part is not going to change.

Advice, sarcasm and comments all welcome I'm definitely NOT looking for sympathy a windscreen yes ;) but not sympathy. :P

  12. No I must admit I couldn't  believe it at the time. I thought for a minute I was about to wear a windscreen.

I'm having a hell of a job getting the screen sorted after checking 4 company's the earliest replacement is Monday! If I can find one I'll do it myself but my local lr specialist doesn't Carry them.
