  1. Believe me I briefly thought about selling either the 110 or the ibex or even both, but I need a tow vehicle for work and that there caravan project. There is nothing out there I would happily daily with the exception of one of my jem's (and that makes the ibex really sensible) and the 110 is tax and mot exempt next month. Oh yeah and everything else depreciates like a stone so would end up costing more in the long run. Mike
  2. I could but that then eats into the engine budget and it means the ibex is on the drive and can't be moved anywhere else, which is alright until I need to fix the 110 or the aforementioned 12 month'er. Mike
  3. This is all well and good but if I take the head off and find it is oval then I can't get to work on Monday. Whatever I end up doing it has to be one out, one in over a weekend (maybe a long weekend if I'm lucky). Your all forgetting this is my daily driver there is no other car. Mike
  4. This photo was taken a couple of years ago during the Scotland head gasket. It's difficult to see but the honing lines are visible either side but the bore is polished front and back. So I'd say oval and I doubt it's improved with another 20k miles. Mike
  5. It smokes after sitting at tick over in traffic, fair size cloud. Most of the rest of the time it's not majorly noticeable. I know this engine has worn bores as it was plain to see last time the head was off. Ultimately this engine is tired and the other has oil pressure issues. As for budget for a replacement first it'll depend on the engine as I'll be willing to find more money for a low mileage or recently recond lump. Given that it's going to cost £1200-1500 to rebuild the other one in parts alone I guess that's the top end of the budget, but obviously I want to spend as little as possible. Mike
  6. I'm going to keep an eye out for a 200tdi as that's the quickest way to keep it on the road. If one doesn't come up between now and the end of the current commitments then I'll rebuild to other engine. I just hope it lasts that long as it's starting to be antisocial with it's smoking. Mike
  7. Land rover volt guage in the 110. Measuring on the back I have 14.5v but the guage is reading off the scale. Panicked at first as thought the alternator had gone nuts but it's definitely the guage. Mike
  8. Yeah I've had a poke around. To be honest the best option is to find a second hand 200tdi and put that in for now but they are getting tricky to find. Mike
  9. The volts guage has started reading really high, the alternator is putting out 14.5v as normal and the battery system seems to be working as normal including correct voltage on the back of the guage. I'm assuming the guage has gone belly up for some reason unless I'm missing something or it's an easy fix. Any ideas or do I just need a new guage. Mike
  10. At the very least I'd need rad/intercooler and part of the exhaust so buying a complete vehicle makes more sense. Mike
  11. The other 200 is in a lock up so haven't had time to even look at it let alone strip. Oh and I've had to rob the injection pump of it so that's another £400 to get that rebuilt. Mike
  12. You misunderstood I ment but it for around £1k then sell other bits to recoup some of the cost. Either way I have to remove and refit the engine. So yes buying, stripping and fitting a td5 would be a fair bit of work but probably no more time than rebuilding a 200 and replacing the current one. At the moment I'm weighing up the options. There is another option involving a body shell in someone's garden. But no matter what I do it's spending at least £1k I'm just trying to make the best use of time and money long term. Mike
  13. Trouble is I'm distinctly time and money poor, a disco gets me engine, gearbox, random other bits and a load I can sell on for £1k ish. A rebuild is £1.2k for parts alone probably 3-4 weeks of evenings/weekends and I'll still need a gearbox down the line. Mike
  14. I'm currently considering the bigger picture. 200s aren't going to get easier to find and some parts are already unavailable. I would still rebuild one of the 200's down the line for the 110. A complete disco should supply all the parts required. It's more powerful which is nice. It would also provide a gearbox to replace the incorrect one that's in there. Plus I can sell some parts to recoup some penny's and there's a long weekend coming.... Mike
  15. Is it just a loom if so the defender loom should solve that or does it need a defender ECU/ the disco one reprogramming. Mike
  16. Just thinking out loud again, if I was to buy a td5 disco what do I need to do to run it outside the vehicle. I don't have central locking, electric windows or an alarm. So I don't need any of that. I think I have most of a defender td5 loom kicking around but would use either my 200 disco clocks or the ones out of the td5 disco. Mike
  17. To be honest if you can file the teeth then they are quite soft. Our blades at work are TCT so a file won't touch them. Mike
  18. Thanks @Daan. But it appears there is a two bearing swivel for 10 spline and for early 24 spline half shafts (pre abs). I'm trying to work out if they are the same and if the cv's are the same too. Mike
  19. Quite the contry if it's hard a diamond stone will be better than a file. They are a replacement for old school oil/wet stones they come in different grades and are usually a lump of steel with diamonds on. eBay link picked at random so you know what I'm talking about. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133282627721?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vIRMQk85RKm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=rj9sNdGlTqa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Mike
  20. A diamond stone might be a better choice than a file, but it depends how soft the blade is. Mike
  21. I've normally had reasonable experiences, however yesterday I had a parcel returned to me for no apparent reason. Now I've got to try to work out why and re send it. The worst bit is it's an eBay item that I didn't want to send but the guy asked if I would so now I'm £10 out of pocket on an item that only sold for £26+p&p. Mike
  22. I have to work outside so this time of year I work on the house to keep the boss happy. Mike
  23. To be fair with you as an operator it's likely to be more accurate in the first place, that and the interpretation of the model into a cover has a lot of room for error. In the instance of the Roman boat I'd just take a fibreglass splash mould. Mike
  24. We had a boat 3D scanned for a cover at work. I've no idea what they used but as commercial I expect expensive. To be honest it took them as long to scan as the guy with a tape normally does, it cost twice the price and didn't fit. Now I appreciate there's a lot of variables but I guess all I'm saying is at a minimum your going to be checking the scan with a tape at which point you need to question the cost. Mike
