Amp meters don't generally go high enough for modern systems unless you go for an electronic version (not normally guage sized). I have a standard volt guage in the 110 and a fake Carling with twin digital volt read out in the ibex. I wouldn't classifie either as accurate but comparatively you get an idea if something is amiss.

Thanks for your prompt replies. The truck has no drive in high / low / diff lock engaged props are not turning at all
Pull the t-box cover and see if the shaft is spinning.

Will it drive in diff lock, are the props rotating. If yes to either of these it's diff, drive flange or halfshaft. If not pull the round cover off the transfer box here you'll be able to see if the shaft and or the input gear are spinning. If the gear is spinning the transfer box has broken. If the gear isn't but the shaft is the splines have gone on the gear or shaft (you can remove the gear to check if need be). If the shaft isn't spinning the gearbox or clutch is dead.

Not yours! I was referring to the op.

To me it sounds more like your tank breather is blocked and your not actually putting a full tank in. For it to go up in corners etc the fuel level has to go up so if the breather is blocked you'll have an air bubble in the tank therefore you only have ¾ of a tank.

Bfg Muds are ok in the snow but I believe AT's are better (I've not tried them). Deep snow your probably going to need chains anyway so tyres are academic, ice you want studs really (which are no good on tarmac).

I've wanted one since I saw John Foers in his at a YROC trial. That was a long time ago. I helped a couple of friends (brothers) build theres, back in the early 90's (in Derbyshire). Driving Moglites didn't help; then Mike built his - which is gorgeous.TSD turned up here in his, once, and I see it regualrly when I go past his house.
I've accepted the I will have neither time or money to ever build one and nobody ever sells an Ibex....
To help more, next time I'm down hopefully we'll have more time and you can have a drive.

It's definitely been for sale several times and this is at least the second time I've seen it up in this state. Not my taste at all.

Neither was TSD or moglight. When I joined shires TSD was soon to buy his off another club member and moglight had red ibex both really helped my hankering.......not. I got there in the end, the irony is my wife hates the way they look but she is quite happy to drive it.

I'm developing a serious liking for one of these. It will pass, no doubt.
I very much doubt it, I first saw them in 86 when they first launched the ibex after building the nomad (mini based and also on my radar). I looked very seriously at them when I built my tomcat, with hindsight I wish I had built one then. But at that time the kit was £3k more, ironically knowing what I know now the build cost would of been the same. Fast forward about 7 years the tomcat was gone due to not because of having a wife and child (with a second in the way). The one I have came up on eBay, I spoke to the guy he said he had someone coming to look at it but it was still available buy it now......

I never understood why an ibex was based on landrover parts; especially with the current values of defenders. You could use a toyota 70 series or a patrol. A disco 2 is another one to consider. Has Ibex ever considered changing the donor vehicle, considering the defender is no longer made?
They tried ford 10-15 years ago only built one. You can spec D2 and several have been built like this. If you talk to them they will accommodate almost anything you want, this is why their website is a bit vague. They literally are bespoke, I'm fairly sure no two ibex are the same.

Several years ago I was towing the club trailer (2.5T 16ft box) with my tomcat. We were on a dual carriageway with a car coming down the slip road, the outside lane was full of traffic. It was quite clear the guy on the slip expected me to move, when I didn't he broke hard then drove straight into the side of the trailer. At no point had he realised I was towing a great big blue box, needless to say he was wide awake when we stopped. Fortunately minimal damage to either and we were both able to continue.

Where's the fun in that? Might as well buy a Toyota!
Yeah but the ibex has character. It's recycled so greener than any Tesla and will still be useable in 30 years time. Oh and I built mine......

@NonimouseThat wasn't structural steel, it had its own gravity.
There is no part of an ibex that isn't stronger and or more robust than a land rover (I would go as far as to say a disco 1/2). The space frame is designed to be roll over protection (tested by several owners ) even still mine is only 2 ton.

I certainly think there is now a case for some control of the press in certain circumstances.
I first thought so during the start of the covid epidemic and their creation and whipping up of hysteria during this fuel crisis further reinforces that belief. I find this behaviour reprehensible and irresponsible.
This will continually repeat itself now as each media outlet fights to sell advertising space by creating and developing new "crises" from which they will hope to line their pockets.
They need to be controlled now or this will be the just the latest installment in a series of life disrupting events contrived for profit.
@reb78 fuel stations in North Herts, Beds and North Bucks all seem to have calmed down now so you shouldn't have any trouble getting fuel.

Or we can live in hope that people will work out that journalists lie more than politician's and stop reading/believing a word they say.

I really like the look of those.
What are the doors and bonnet made of? Are they suitably kit-car in their feel or a bit more substantial?
Mine are 25mm galv box skinned in Ali but they do have a satisfying clunk when shut. The bonnet is all Ali not strong enough to stand on unfortunately(I may change this in the future) but still has a decent feel. The F8 doors are laser cut frame in galv skinned in Ali not unlike modern cars. The bonnet is a fibreglass clamshell.

The worst bit is this perpetuates itself. Because all the halfwits have bought all the fuel, all the normal people can't get fuel causing ques. Therefore the halfwits think there isn't an fuel so go and buy more.
I wish a big business that has been adversely affected by this would sue the idoit journalist that started this. Then they might start to think about the damage their actions cause.

Anyway I'm off to try and find some so I can go to work.....

Gearbox noise during deceleration
in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Posted
Are you sure it's gearbox, I had a uj fail and make a screeching noise on deceleration.
If it is the gearbox it's likely to be quicker and easier to swap it out, as gearbox rebuilds tend to be time consuming and often require special tools.
