I wonder what we could do with a P38 donor... (I'll get my coat on the way out)

Seriously, very impressed with Mike's Ibex!

Having seen where you guys get a relatively standard p38.........

The f7 ibex chassis could be adapted easily.

The f8 is more traditional land rover esk chassis with a space frame on top.

  2. Yes they are normally top and bottom though mine only has one at the top. Can you unscrew the boss from the wheel to line it up. Failing that just re drill.

're the stalks I wrapped a thin strip of metal round the clamp fix with some small screws one end and the original screw at the other retaining the broken bit.

    Nice !

No problems with the winchrope for the licence plate ?

Not yet but i am half expecting to get a comment. However they are generally more concerned with the rear one over here.

I did discovery I have a problem with the split charge dropping in and out while winching. Due to using a vsr to switch a solenoid I'm going to fit a switch to bypass the vsr while winching.

  4. You niggle secret is safe with me. :hysterical: I have to admit it wasn't quite how I planned to spent new years eve (Though it was better than tiling my barhroom). One of the things I love about the land rover fraternity is the can do attitude and willing help from strangers and friends. I have been on the receiving end in the past and was glad to be able to give some back to the cause. Long may your daft trips to the UK continue and just be careful I have been known to venture across the channel.:im-ok-smiley-emoticon:

  5. If it's for a 200tdi or 300tdi (from memory I think) all you need is a flat plate with 4 holes in it to bolt to the timing chest. Then either 4 spigots set to the correct height and drilled/tapped to suit, welded to the plate or the plate drilled and tapped to suit the compressor with spacers between the compressor body and plate.

  6. Stock ish 90, 200tdi, 24 spline front axle open diff, 24 spline rear with a borrowed arb and hd shafts. Diffs, tank and steering guards. Hd steering bars, cheap tyre compressor to run the arb. 33" tyres (as per regs) heavy duty bumper with a m8000 winch. I didn't have a cage but would if I did it again. I sure I've forgotten something. Kit we carried was usual recovery kit, two 50mm waffles, 100ft winch extension and 3 snatch blocks. Full camping kit and spare clothes. We carried a good selection of tools and enough spares to achieve rolling axles and steering plus usual breakage spares.

Whilst I'm greatful to flying spanners they were busy with their own team so help was mainly advice and help with boarders/paperwork.

Our team was 45 (race) 2 crew, camel 110 (race) 3 crew, 110 hardtop (support/spares) 1 crew (ryan). Support carried additional tools and spares plus our actual camping kit and spare clothes. The plan was for ryan to go to stage starts go to camp and set up then meet at stage finish or at camp depending on distances. It didn't quite go to the plan because the camel got so badly damaged in the first stage that they ended up doing one or two other stages but predominantly became our support crew.

  7. I have a dodgy back so as per usual it went at the most in opportune moment. However it did highlight an issue that I'd forgotten about. When I went to fit the seatbelts they fowled the seats so the quick fix was to limit the seat travel. This did make it a little snug for my 6'3" frame but it was liveable until my back went. To get it to clear I either need to move the reel or the seat. Due to seatbelt mounts moving them is a pain. So the seat it is, it need to move inboard 25mm any more would make the steering wheel and peddles to offset so up 19mm would see the seat back adjuster just slip over the top of the reel. The seat is mounted on an Ali plate on the door side and the tunnel in board. Tunnel side is easy a strip of nylon to lift it and re drill the tunnel 25mm in board. Door side is more tricky the Ali plate is bolted to the floor frame so I would need to re make this but it's Christmas and Ali plate is going to be a problem. So I've used a piece of 25mm nylon rebated over the original Ali plate to give me the 19mm and still spread the load into the Ali plate whilst picking up on the original bolt holes and adding two new ones for the new position.

So now the seat goes back a further 50mm and is less cramped both on the pedals/steering wheel and the door.

We've had that here to spent most of last night cleaning up sick from my eldest. My youngest was sick before but we were all ok for Xmas day.

  9. I have been on here for years and your findings are true. I have met many through this forum that I consider friends some of those I've never actually met face to face. Long may it continue and seasons greetings to all.
