  1. Definitely buy it. There's been a couple of 6x6 on eBay recently. There's a restored sandringham at £32k, a rangie fire truck tatty £6k, another rangie with no rear body £3.5k and some tidy defender base at plus £40k. I think as bowie says £6k is a good starting point.

Thanks Mike and Dave, was looking for both yours but neither turned up in Google search for some reason.

It took me ages to find it. Don't know why it even has sankey in the tittle.

You never know one day I might start the overland caravan project.

  3. A restoration/build is not necessarily about reconditioning or repairing everything. All the cars I've built (Yes I'm in double figures now) have been built on a shoe string therefore anything that is serviceable gets left alone. It does mean the end result is no better than a good second hand car. But hey I drive an ibex that cost me the same as the kit alone would of cost me if I bought it from the factory. I've also had several of my dream cars, yes I have to fix them from time to time that I wouldn't need to if everything was reconditioned but I can't afford that.

So yes you are doing a full restoration, don't sell yourself short your doing a better job than most on a tiny budget.

  4. The blue connector is used to connect the bulkhead loom to the two rear looms that go over the doors to the rear of the car on a discovery so I assume a rangie too. Which leads me to think the white goes to the doors probably electric windows and or mirrors. The black maybe central locking or possibly the other way round. Wire colours would confirm or debunk this.

No.  Disco alternators are opposite hand to Defenders.  In addition, the space available on a Defender is much smaller.

I stand corrected however you can just split the casing and rotate to change the handing. The britpart upgrade kit looks to be the same as the Mondeo alternator but the other hand so the case will need to be split and rotated.

  6. My picture is a standard disco engine fitted in a early 110. Belt and alternator position are standard but alternator is a Ford item. Air filter is a disco filter in a custom position and mount. As stated the defender 200tdi is different. The alternator is low down, the turbo is high, intake is below the exhaust manifold and the belts run a different route. The op asked for an alternator fitted to a different car that would fit. The ford alternator will fit (top bolt and pulley require alterations) a disco 200tdi and should fit a defender because as far as I know the alternator is the same on both engines.

Wheel arch to mudflap extension bracket wotsits.

You need to get out more. Spot on . Although there'll be no mud flaps here.

There is a gap between the foot well and A panel. Therefore all the carp off the tyre gets fired straight up there and dumped on the heater and master fuse box.
