  1. If you go to the mig welding forum & look up Weldequip (he has a shop on there) He'll sort you out. Does mail order too.
  2. Ozboy, What address are you using Please? The bookmark I have no longer works.
  3. Ah, I don't do Facebook. Will ask the wife. Thanks.
  4. When did those rules come in to effect? Thanks for the replies chaps.
  5. Anybody know what's going on with Pennine LR Club? Website is off line & I've lost Mark's phone number.
  6. Forgive me if I'm preaching to the converted & / or if this has already been done to death but with Frank Pickles pulling out of the 4 x 4 market I decided to have a shop around & thought I'd post my findings. Although I live in the middle of no where apparently my BB3 postcode is classed as a high risk area so figures may not give a direct comparison for you bloody southerners! Last year's policy with FP cost me around £400 with all mods declared. Adrian Flux wanted over £900. NFU refused to quote because of mods. Performance Direct refused to quote because of "the area" bloody sheep must be getting rabid! A mate of mine insures a race M3 with a company called "Competition Car Insurance" who he thought also insured competition 4x4's & suggested I gave them a call. Turns out that as long as your truck is used for motor-sport (and / or is a support vehicle) and will do limited miles on the public highway (in my case < 3000 miles a year) they do not care what modifications have been made (as long as it's road worthy of course). In my case quote came back at £284 so I'm a happy bunny! I am not connected to the company in any way, just thought it was worth posting as it may save you a few quid! HTH's Mick.
  7. No, not in the market John. I already have two & the Mrs would cut my nuts off!
  8. Just out of interest what do you reckon this is worth chaps? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Defender-90-V8-4-6-/130607215936?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1e68cbf540#ht_2555wt_922 "25 mpg on the motorway" yeah right, on the back of the AA truck may be! I've never seen a 4.6 with a dizzy, why would you do that?!
  9. Toyroverlander, What oil is it you are using? Would you mind telling me? Thanks, Mick.
  10. Hi Gent's, Can anybody tell me the exact capacity of a unmolested 4.6 engine from a P38 please? (i.e. 4581 cc) Ta. Mick.
  11. By being a little too exuberant in the snow, clouted a tree stump. Is there a reason these tyres aren't as available as they used to be?
  12. Gents, My 110 has been running on 35" Creepy Crawlers. Whilst having a play today I've managed to smash a rim & punch a hole in the tyres side wall. Are these tyres still available & if so who sells them? I bought a set of five from fleabay a couple of years ago but there aren't any listed at the moment. Cheers, Numpty.
  13. Gents, Have any of you fitted 5 point harnesses into a non caged Defender? If so where did you position the anchor points? Thanks, Mick.

    Timing

That's a very good point Nige, The VR sensor bracket was badly bent when I got the engine & I replaced it with one of your shiny ones. It's never been 100% since so I guess I have the bracket set incorrectly, what do I need to do to set it up? Run engine until warm, check timing with strobe & then try to adjust by moving the bracket until the timing marks align? Thanks.
  15. Have you joined Greenpeace Gordon?!

    Thanks Chaps, Much appreciated.
  17. After recommendations on here I went with Frank Pickles for my 110. Footman James (& others) maybe cheaper for relatively minor mods. To put the price in to context my truck has: 4.6 V8, modified suspension, 35" tyres, modified bodywork, winch & A-Bar, under body protection, etc, etc. Cost was £400 fully comp for a 39 year old driver (I have a company car so 0 no claims) with points for SP30. Hope that helps, Mick. P.S. Don't bother with the website, give them a call, it was nice to speak to somebody that seemed to know about modified land rovers.

    Timing

Thanks Fridge, Forgive my ignorance (it's about 10 years since I've had to set timing) but assuming I get #1 to TDC where do I mark the crank pulley? Can I just mark the pulley @ 12 o'clock and do it by rack of the eye or do I need a pointer as fitted to 3.5's? Cheers, Mick.

Don't you just love the swear filter!
  20. Gent's, My 4.6 has always run like a bag of splendid isn't running very smoothly, it's as though it's not running on all 8 or the timing is out. I know my trigger wheel was fitted incorrectly (I didn't squirt it) & has a huge offset in the ECU to compensate. How do I check the timing on a serp engine? I have a strobe etc but there aren't any timing marks that I can see. Thanks in advance, Mick.
  21. Cheers Nige, Just to confirm, are you saying the gap should be 0.6 mm?
  22. Glad to hear you like it Steve. I wish you would stop licking your windows though!
  23. Gent's, When fitting a new set of plugs are they good to go straight out of the box or does the gap need setting to get the best out of them for a 4.6? If they need setting what should the gap be? Cheers, Mick.
