  1. Trying to remove the EGR Valve.....Another INTERESTING job on the LR!?! I know this can be blanked off by x2 ways, the problem is that both sets of bolts (×1 pair 10mm...the other pair Allen key Hex heads) are rusted and baked in place!?! I have given them some decent GRUNT leverage well as much as i dare at the moment, NOT wanting to snap/sheer them. They have had diesels applied over the last few days but no improvement??? This has become somewhat of a mission!?!.....So just how much ABUSE will this take ie on the bolts and hammering the surrounding area as this is fixed to the Turbo i DON'T want to damage anything! Or any tips which might help in its removal. Not overly interested in other blanking options at the moment as i would like to REMOVE this ugly eyesore once and for all!!!
  2. Cause could be.... Age Corrosion Rubbing/Chafing Bad earth Failed connection Water damage and the list goes on. As to where you start.....i would start at the light and work/trace the wire to wherever it goes, checking for all the above. PITA job but other than that it's guess work.
  3. We've got THESE All over the house! NEVER had any issue with them and been in years, pretty sure they're the original ones too!?! Can't see why they wouldn't work in the LR??? Give me a break!!!...I'm on lockdown having been laid off for up to 12wks.
  4. @Peaklander thanks for that bit of info, i have a better understanding of this, but then the question has to be why not use ALL Dowel bolts and be done with it!?! If the idea is you want it set in the precise exact place!?! Why have the hassel of undersized bolts being held in place by ONE perfect fittining bolt??? Surely if there is any stress/stain on the x1 bolt it would be better spread over all bolt or say x3 Dowel and x4 of the other?
  5. Ok I'm as thick as Pig #$@% on this matter and CANNOT get this round my head??? So if someone can explain so a Child of 2 yrs. Can understand that would be great!!! Or, what why don't i just put ALL Dowel bolts in and then it's sorted for definite!?! No???
  6. Check radiator and hoses would be my first call.
  7. Take the motor apart and see if there is anything worn and slipping, or is it's stiff/seized??? Check wiper spindle box hasn't worked loose where it holds the cable and is letting the cable run smoothly??? Make sure the wipers are not slipping on the spindles??? After that I'm out of ideas sorry
  8. Put new seals and retaining ring on a couple of years ago. Now not sure if i HAVE mixed them up or NOT!?! Usually i work one side sort that out then move to the other side and work..... But cannot for the life of me remember, all i can remember is doing a near full axle strip and rebuild!?! So for peace of mind this time round will order x2 Dowel bolts and x12 of the other, then paint the top of the Dowel bolt so i know which one it is in future.
  9. Tom, not sure para cord is thick enough? I used the rope type washing line. It needs to pull the lip in and over the frame edge so you dont want something too slim...... That said if you have used para cord in the past to good effect then ignore the above lol Andy
  10. If using the rope method, the dash can be left in place but it's mega tight and awkward as you need to pull square to the glass. Dont think it's that much faff just to remove the top? And not a total dash removal in that sense
  11. Well done steve200TDi that's it and well explained by your diagram! Even though i fitted mine i NEVER did get my head round how all the grooves worked!?!
  12. So this DOWEL bolt if you find it, get one, WHICH bolt hole does it go in, or does it not matter so long as you fit it???
  13. Well i'm IMPRESSED!!!......Looks like you have 3 HANDS!!!.....God what i'd give to have that!!! 😂 But on a serious note that doesn't look how i remember my seal!?! Pretty sure the one i had the x3 channels DIDN'T need to be pulled apart and were easy to differentiate!?!.... As stated think this is not the right seal? And to be honest you are better getting a Genuine one as others lack in quality and this affects fitting and sealing! I went for an OEM and it was spot on, just can't remember who from though.
  14. Thanks guys another lesson in the LR Classroom completed. Every day on here is an education!
  15. Ouch!.... My head hurts!..... I'm lost......Coiler, Caster, PCD anyone want to educate me???
  16. Red90 Can you please explain.....What caster, how to set and where the Dowel bolt goes???
  17. But surely you can still usea RING SPANNER!?!..... And if so why NOT the RATCHET type??? If none of these what are we USING??? Cheers Andy
  18. Look on YouTube think there is a link/video on the forum where a guy uses a washing line rope method, i followed it EXACTLY when i did mine and it worked perfectly!.... Some say to use washing up liquid to help, this guy didn't and neither did i. Well worth a look, might even help you figure out how the seal goes!?!
  19. I fitted my own windscreen a few years ago and can honestly say the the rubber takes some figuring out!?! Sadly without someone showing you it will be hard to explain, but it is almost like the rubber is in side out.... From your profile i would say glass in the larger gap and the frame for the smaller thinner gap? Are you looking to fit this yourself???
  20. Not wanting to High Jack this thread so feel free to remove..... As a bus driver on a regular route it never ceases to amaze me the amount of people that run on a SPACE SAVER tyre for weeks at a time, quite often this will be taxis!?! I have even seen one car with both near side wheels on space savers! Oh and as for driving at the lower recommended speed when using these tyres, not a prayer, they still drive at 60 plus mph!!!
  21. @Stellaghost no i don't have any as yet, but i like the idea, so I WILL get some asap And bodumatau hammer, anvil and cold beer are my new best buddies 😂 Don't have a garage only a drive to work on, so over head hoist is out, might try guiding it in on the trolley jack!?! I reckon i could work something to wedge/hold the hub raise it to height then slide it in????? Naagh who am i kidding!?! It ain't never gunna be that simple!!! Oh yeah, HAMMER, ANVIL & COLD BEER!!!!!
  22. Cheers lads, i looked at doing it this way and couldn't see any issue!?! But thought I'd check to be sure
  23. Can i remove the swivel pin housing by just unbolting it from the axle and removing the the complete hub and half shaft after removing wheel, brake caliper and track rod. Or is it best to do a full stip ie hub off, stub axle off half shaft out then unbolt swivel pin housing from axle? Andy
  24. @bodumatau will give them a good check over once this rain has stopped, cheers for the advice. Paddy..... couple of points 1. If you get Galvanised turrets just check the locating washers of the damper fits, may need to enlarge the hole a fraction for it to seat in properly!?! Point 2. When you get/buy the front dampers make sure it has BOTH sets of mounting washers and bushes!!! X1 of mine (Boge) didn't!?! So this has held the job up whilst i wait for a set to be sent from the suppliers!!! Frustrating Annoying Inconvenient are the only words i could come up with, that appropriately follow a string of expletives!!!!!!!! Several dogs, a small group of young children and a large gang of Hells Angel's WERE hurt in the making of this!!!
  25. Well Paddy!...... I have removed o/s turret, retaining ring, damper, spring and spring retainer. My way was to jack the motor up by the axle, wheel off and support axle with stand. Remove lower damper nut, jack up chassi, then using another Jack under the axle take the weight off the axle stand and lower the axle stand (so if you drop the jack too much the axle wont fall to the floor and rip out the brake line!), having lowered the axle as much as i dare i had to leaver out the spring, plus you HAVE to remove the damper cover in the engine bay on the wheel arch to be able to remove turret and damper which is a pain in the butt as you have to remove/pivet the coolant bottle!?! But on the whole NO major issues other than awkward and time consuming. You will need something to stop the damper from rotating whilst removing the bottom nut, i used an oil filter clamp thing, the one with a small bike chain. Just hope the near side is the same, would have done thst today too but i renewed stu axle seal and bearing, wheel hub seal and bearings plus new brake pads. Busy day realy
