  1. No probs, i'll see if i can dig out some more photos at the weekend - I havnt got any that are too recent tho, but there may be one or two with the hardtop fitted Lewis
  2. Dont rule out later defenders if they havnt got the hinge - i'm sure you could retro fit them with ease Funny you should ask that , my daily will be up for sale when I get the 90 sorted, probably around december time. Its a 68 Series 2a van, so its got free tax, its fitted with a Perkins Prima 2lt Diesel engine and goes well for a 38 year old car (I've had the speedo off the clock), does 40ish MPG too. All new brakes for last MOT, drums shoes cylinders pipes - everything. Excellent chassis and serviceable bulkhead, other than that its fairly standard. Its green in places with blue doors, comes with truckcab and tailgate and spare doors too, plus whatever else i can find to throw in, spares, smiths heater etc. Its the one in my Avatar (old picture when it was tuckcab) Anymore details PM me Lewis
  3. Some, mostly earlier screens are fitted with hinges, for example my 87 90" has them, as does mates 89 110" and other mates 85 90" etc. But later ones were fitted with a bracket in place of the hinge, my old 91 90" had these, as does mates 98 90". As far as I know they are completely interchangeable Lewis
  4. Not that difficult really, this crossed my mind when contemplating bulkhead swaps on my 2a if going to tdi. I knew a guy that was driving a td5 around with series screen and truckcab for a while - the original defender screen and panels got damaged when the car fell over Easiest to do it with a series 2 screen because of the hinge, all you would need to do is make up a bracket that bolts to the bulkhead where the normal defender hinge/bracket goes and then have the series windscreen hinge running off that. Sorry, p*ss poor description. You would of course need to run series roof as the defender screen is a diffrent shape so roof panels wouldnt line up to a series screen, truckcab or custom canvas would be easiest because then you dont have to worry about any of the length issues. HTH Lewis Edited to say Custom canvas
  5. I'm very interested in how this turns out Si. I've been looking at ways to increse front droop, - currently on Gwyn Lewis/Llama 4x4 raised turrets with long dampers and worn metalastic bushes in narrow front arms. I had been considering void bushes/drilled polybushes but was concerned by the alarming wear rate and tendency to twist under torque. Could probably (if i can find them) bring some narrow radius arms to Sodbury if that helps? Lewis
  6. I have a pump attached to an engine that you can have for little money. PM me if you are interested. Its not recon and I have no history to prove low miles but the car from which is was removed was in excellent mechanical condidtion and the engine ran nicely with liitle smoke. Lewis
  7. My mate has a Viair compressor from matt savage connected to an old LPG tank, he has one of the spendy 100% duty 200psi jobbies and mostly uses it for air horns/airing up tyres/inflating airbeds etc. Seems pretty good to me, but I have no other experience to go from. It came with most of the parts you need, gauge etc and i think you can get all the extras like pipework unions and adapters from matt savage. Lewis
  8. Is that all? What you really want is the new [cant tell you about it cus it would cost me my job] Now thats an engine! My coat? How generous, oh thats the door, my thanks
  9. Having attempted to make some of my own, and then bought/fitted/used ones from David (Llama 4x4) I can give them a thorough recommendation, excellent service, fast delivery and very easy to deal with. I have no connection with Llama 4x4 before you ask , just impressed with all the products I've bought from them. If your budget is low/nonexistent then why not modify/remake the standard ones? If you are not needing to change the height then standard parts are fine. If you wanted lowered turrets then just cut and weld standard turrets, same for if you want to raise them. I mate has done this successfully on his RRC and hasnt broken them yet - all depends on your welding though If your budget is truly nonexistant then you are welcome to come and strip however many standard turrets you require off some of our scrap cars Lewis Oh and 4mm or 6mm will be fine for the ring at the base.
  10. A lad we go offroading with runs a Hilux with huge lift, 37" boggers and lockers front and rear, quite a nice truck, doesnt seem to break as much as a Defender. He's also building a pimpy one for the road with a 5.7 Chevy V8 Sorry, no pictures tho
  11. IIRC the '91 Hilux at the farm I used to work at had Low range, it was set up much like a series with high 2wd drive, high 4wd and low 4wd Lewis
  12. I had two tyres swopped on my old daily (nasty old VeeDub polo) at ATS, was expecting twenty quid or something ridiculous but the guy just did it for free, spot on
  13. Cheers guys, thats settled it Thanks for your replies
  14. IIRC there was a green 90 king-cab parked on the Champion winches stand that was fitted with the Tomcat bonnet, looked very blingy I didnt pay much attention to what they had done to make it fit though Lewis
  15. Having FINALLY recieved my new Pro-Comp dampers (no thanks to Interlink Express, useless sods that they are) I'm just waiting for the rain to stop before I brave the muddy field to fit them. Should I fit the supplied boots or not? I can see that the boot provides some protection to the chrome slider rod but on a friends RRC the rubber boots trapped mud and carp behind causing wear . So whats best? Many Thanks Lewis
  16. Please ignore my earlier ramblings about the V6 being iron block, I have now been put straight - it is infact an aluminium block with iron liners Sorry
  17. I would imagine you could make it bolt to an LT230 but why would you want to if you could use the newer box with on the fly hi/low shift etc? Plus it sounds like a lot of effort. I dont think the new transfer box shares any components with the LT230. Its manufactured by Borg Warner IIRC
  18. From what i remember, and dont quote me on this, i think the t/box mounting holes would alow it to be rotated so that the output was on the right hand side, not sure what you would do about the drain and level plugs and breathers. I'll check with my man in transmissions when i get back to work on tuesday
  19. Facing the front of the car from in the drivers seat then the front prop output flange is on the left-hand side of the g/box
  20. The actuators are well below Disco's quoted wading height of 700mm so they must be waterproof ish, plus I've steamed off a a Sport rolling chassis in the past and everything worked afterwards, well most things Just found this info - may be helpful regarding an approximation of t/box ratios Transfer ratios high 1.00:1, low 2.93:1 G/box is ZF HP26 Gear ratios 1st – 4.17:1, 2nd – 2.34:1, 3rd – 1.52:1, 4th – 1.14:1, 5th – 0.87:1, 6th – 0.69:1, Reverse – 3.40:1 Transfer box blurb: Two-speed electronic transfer gearbox, shift-on-the-move capability, electronically controlled locking center differential
  21. I seem to remember that the early cars we dealt with allowed you to shift from low to high on the move, but not under power. They didnt seem to want to shift to low from high unless you were stationary, this may have been software related and not a mechanical issue though. I'm not sure how the production vehicles behave, maybe you could ask Saley - I think he has a Disco3
  22. Sorry, was a bit vague before - heres a bit more tech, just what I know off the top of my head. I think its an electronic servo actuated centre diff locker - it looks like its got the motor mechanism from elctric windows bolted to the top, and I believe its electronic shift between high and low. Sorry, no info on ratios. I thought 100quid was worth a try - I know a muppet who is willing to pay 100ish so i'll just off load it to him
  23. Erm, just the standard current transfer box as far as I know, i havnt got any specs to hand, being my week off and all, sorry. If you got hold of the g/box i imagine it would all come together, alternatively, use a Jag g/box and fit your desired transfer box. Using the V6 bellhousing obviously. Weekend went well thanks, the 90 now has a rear axle and all the rear suspension set up, also removed the luverly 2.5td (anyone want it £100?) to make way for the tdi. Couldnt get the rollcage mounts to fit though, at least not without some major grinder persuasion to the A-frame crossmember, so gave up when rain stopped play on sunday. I think a PM to northernchris may be in order to sort the Cage. Lewis
  24. Sent. As before, any problems ping me and I'll ask around Lewis
  25. Jez, what CAD do you have access to? Or what files can it read? We use CATIA V5 and the file will likely be .dxf, is this okay with you? Also spoke to my man in transmissions, the V6 definately has a diffrent bolt pattern to AJV8 and Lion so its looking hopeful for a straight swap to cologne. Lewis
