  1. I paid £475 for one with LPG that needed no welding but was out of MOT. £500 seems OTT for the hours it needs. I would look to pay £200 - £300 for it unless you think the engine makes it worth more.
  2. this is for a 3.5 with all v-belts but might be useful for reference Waterpump - AVX13 x 1000La Alternator - AVX10 x 675La PAS - AVX13 x 925La A/C - AVX13 x 1000La
  3. paid £475 for mine on an e plate last june. very solid and only mechanical problem was a broken viscous coupling on the fan. Interior pretty good, few loose switch panels & bits of trim, no MOT but i think it would pass depending on how picky the inspector was. Stuf like the rear wash wipe isn't worked. All i wanted was one that was solid to start with!
  4. Hi all, yes it was the Switch panel, he believes the failure caused the lock down. Thanks all.
  5. Thanks for all the feedback everyone, his current thought is that the window switch panel has failed, he thinks this caused the lock down. Someone is lending him one to try, will let you know. Just for info there are the range rover recalls here http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/recalls/recalls.jsp?modelID=A0&modelName=Range+Rover&makeName=Land+Rover++++++++++++++++++&makeId=C3
  6. Hi, no the windows don't move at all. The fuses are ok, haven't looked at anything else!
  7. A friends P38 went into lockdown, ie RCL wouldn't work, electric windows wouldn't work and the car wouldn't start. He got the code from the local land rover dealer which he put in via the key in the door lock, the car now runs and the key fob works again but the windows don't. Any ideas?
  8. There are ways to get payslips with any employer, NI number & pay rate you like on, I wouldn't recommend it though as I believe payslips have a special status when it comes to tax etc. halfords 75Ah battery with 4 yr warrenty £100 no card, £60 with card. Newmax offroad 85ah battery £75. I went for the newmax because of winches & spotlights etc.
  9. Whats a good manual for a classic, haynes book of lies or another? I want it mainly to try to fix some of the electical problems on the car. It's an '84 efi. Thanks
  10. before you buy an alternator measure the voltage of the battery with the engine off, then with the engine on. The voltage should be higher with the engine running, if it isn't the alternator is certainly dead.
  11. if you drive at a constant power setting on the engine then put your foot on the brake the engine applying the same amount of force (in this case torque) to the wheel but some is being converted to heat by the brake therefore less is seen on the ground. To think of it a different way if you were pushing a full shopping trolley up hill with all your might you might manage 4mph for arguements sake, if i walked up and put my foot on the tyre you would still be pushing with all your might but going slower as some of your energy is being converted to heat by my shoe.
  12. you could drill a hole in the diff pan and weld a bung in. Obviously need to take the diff out incase of swarf. Measure off another axle to get the position right. The half shoaft would work if you measured out the volume of oil first - anyone know how much off the top of your head? Doubt you would have to tip the axle much.
  13. Arrrrgh, scary black box stuff! do you think its the pump or the controller? Would it be easy to take a pressure gauge off the compressor / pressure line and put it somewhere in the dash so that you could see if it was working whilst driving?
  14. its my ingenious solution to the age old problem of tyre grip vs shaft life. It uses the right tyre to grip and spins the left one to stop you breaking shafts Also it means that if i roll it goes left not right making it much safer for me... depending on the passanger! You mean your friends would leave the rest of the car? Thats better than the last people, all they left me was a line of rubber on the road
  15. ... and someone had written 'front' and 'rear' on the ends of them
  16. worked it out myself, arn't i cleaver! According to the catalogue the fronts are 133lbs, the rears are 150lbs. One set of springs is about 16.5mm wire, the other is about 15mm wire with an extra coil, so i'm guessing the thicker ones are the rears
  17. Got some bearmach blue +2" offroad springs, anyone know if they are handed front, back, left, right, they all look the same to me but like to be sure!
  18. i would use the ignition feed to feed a bank of relays. One for cooling fans, one of lights etc. A single 55watt bulb pulls nearly 5 amps and a big fan must be around the 15 amp mark?
  19. Hi, i'm new to LRs too, lets stick together There is a TOR camping weekend at KORC near s****horpe August bank holiday, see http://www.totaloffroadlive.co.uk/tickets.html Look out for me if your there, i'll be in my green RRC numberplate ending ERC (eric)
  20. yeah - they don't like that
  21. Thought i'd say Hi. I've been into offroading for a while but this is my first trip into land rover land after my suzuki got stolen She's a 3.5 efi, standard apart from LPG. I'm taking her to KORC this weekend to see if there's anything wrong with it before the 'improvements' begin.
