  1. I imagine having a good condition vehicle to work on removes a lot of the surprises you can get with poor ones, so they can keep filming on schedule. For them it's worth paying more for non rusty bolts, plus will look better at the end for less effort

  2. You can buy them under these part numbers: https://www.landroverworkshop.com/diagrams/body-chassis/doors/rear-side-door-hinges-check-strap_44877#28

They're only shown for the Puma era and for the second row doors, but don't see why you couldn't fit to the other hinges. (In fact this post shows they are on the front doors http://www.defender2.net/forum/post460670.html)

I can only imagine they help support the door by bracing the bolt along it's length to stop it drooping. Or maybe it crushes up against the captive nut plate to give better friction. They're more plastic than rubber aren't they?

  3. I put a Q box in and couldn't notice a difference in noise.

I think people deem them to be less strong as the teeth are smaller and angled differently, so in theory it's true. But most tbox failures are bearings or not using diff lock properly. If any hard offloading is being done then the low ratio gears are much stronger and are the same as other boxes, in which case the fact it's a Q box doesn't matter

If you read the articles about the new G wagon, its really quite interesting, I think there's about 5 common parts between the old model and the new model, but the design brief was to keep it looking the same, evidently this was quite challenging and the price tag probably reflects that... its quite an interesting case really, as if LR did that to the Defender, so it looked the same, but had 5 parts transferable from the previous model, what would we be thinking?...

As told on the factory tour, the only 2 parts identical from Series 1 to the Defender were the canvas lashing hook (301328) and a rear tub vertical stiffener. The designers of the new Defender had been told to integrate the latter into the new vehicle somewhere, so they could string along a tenuous link to their "heritage".
