  1. Hi, I have a problem with my 200tdi. It does not get enough diesel. The fuel lift pump seemed to be faulty. I have replaced this one with a new one, but the problem has not been solved. The old pump was fitted without the spacer, so it put the new one on, also without the spacer. This limits the travel of the manual lever to about half. It only pumps at the last inch. So I put the spacer in, now the manual lever is OK, but still no fuel when I start the engine. So I filed off half of the spacer and put it in again, if I start the engine there is a tiny little bit of fuel coming. Could it be that the cam has worn of the shaft or something? I cannot think of anything to do now. I'm thinking of putting an electric pump after the mechanical one. Or should I take of the mechanical one and just use an electrical? Do you think a fuel lift pump from a 110 v8 will be right for this job? this one: v8 pump at paddocks ? Or does anyone have a better idea?
  2. I now have a nice patriot roofrack on my 110. Someone has given me a safety devices G4 roofrack, I really like the looks of that one. The patriot is aluminium, so no rust, flat so more versatily, lighter, all in favour of the Patriot... Still the G4 rack looks very nice... So I'm not sure which one to keep. What should you do?
  3. My 200tdi heats up very quick too. In only a few miles between the middle and the red and stays just before the red bit. Has been this way for years.Tomorrow I'm driving to Croatia with this car with my boat on the trailer. Still a bit scary when it is so close to the red even without a trailer. Lets hope it doesn't get hotter in the mountains, hot weather and with the trailer.... I may have to slow down a bit.
  4. I've just tried this, I can always select any gear without the clutch without any noises... So my best bet is still the clutch plate. I hate removing gearboxes on defenders....
  5. I've tried low and high gear of the trasfer box... I have a feeling there is a tiny little bit of movement when take my foot of the clutch, just for a fraction of a second. I'll take the PTO cover off tomorrow and see what it looks like there..
  6. Hi, I have a defender 300TDI overhere. I was driving and suddenly lost all drive to the wheels. I've tried again with the car in difflock, still no drive, so probably it will not be a broken halfshaft. How likely is it that the heart of the clutch plate has broken out off the plate? Clutch feels normal. The car didn't have too much backlash in the transmission, so I don't think it's a problem with the splines of the gearbox. It's a R380 gearbox, they don't suffer spline wear too much do they? What do you guys think???
  7. Thanks, I have just made a wooden cover yesterday...
  8. I'm planning on going to Greece with my old Land Rover 110 Softtop. I will just take a bikini top with me. Because I don't want to have my luggage stolen I need to make some kind of cover for the pickup area. Ofcourse I would like it to keep water out and it should be lockable. Does anyone overhere have any ideas or pictures? This is the car:
  9. A friend of mine changed the timing belt on his 200tdi. He turned the crankshaft two turns after setting the tension correct. He didn't check the tension after the two turns, he thought it was just a check to see that everything was truning alright. He did check the tension by just feeling on the belt and it felt about the same as before the turning. Do you think he will develop a problem or should he be OK? He is going to drive along with me to Greece, so his car will have to do 5000 miles. Also he secured the crankshaf bolt with loctite and his 1000NM impact gun, so not with a torque wrench. Do you think it will be torqued down enough this way?
  10. I've driven it at 70 miles an hour for 20 minutes and it is warm but I can easily touch it with my hand. Guess that is normal then, but I will check the oil level today. Maybe I'll change the oil, I'm planning to do a 5000 mile trip with trailer with this car...
  11. Thanks guys! I Guess I'll just take a try... This car has been stood for years and I have several jobs to do. It's an old 1983 110 softtop and I'm planning to drive it to Greece in two weeks with my 5 meter boat on a trailer behind it. Already changed the cambelt of the 200tdi, engine is ok. I've adjusted the swivels and manual steering box. Have been welding on the chassis for three days now, but there are still a lot of holes in it. That's my main concern, that it may break when towing my boat. But already replaced all outriggers, both spring hanger on the back, front turrets, all bushes, shocks... Now I will have to find a tow bar and I will have to make some kind of cover for the pickup area, otherwise they will steal my stuff I'm affraid. Lots do do still..
  12. My rear salisbury axle gets rather hot. Is that normal?
  13. I have some play in my rear axle from one of my old 110's. Can I just weld my drive flanges to my half shafts or is that bad for something? I know you can buy one piece shafts with drive flanges so I think it should not be a problem?
  14. just visible in picture: Here in Holland you have a major problem if you're at the DVLA and don't have the Leyland logos.
  15. ofcourse with an original number there is a leyland logo before and after the VIN (in later years an asterisk or something) I don't think you can buy Leyland logo stamps?
  16. I don't think so. It wasn't there one moment, and the other moment it started. I think poorly adjusted tappets would have developped the noise gradually.
  17. thanks, I'll try this when I find the time...
  18. Hi, I have a problem with my 300TDI... A few weeks ago I lost servo assistance on my brakes. So I bought a new Wabco vacuumpump from Paddocks. No servo is back, but..... A few days later my TDI started to develop a ticking noise starting at around 2000~2500 RPM. It does sound a bit like a vacuum pump tick, but how big are the chances that a new one breaks within two days???
  19. What's all this talk about loosing faith in Paddocks? Paddocks is not the problem, they have good service, fast delivery and good prices. The problem is with the parts, paddocks just sends what you order. If you don't order an original part it's not their fault. btw...I have a britpart waterpump on my 300TDi, no problems yet after 40000 km's and one year...
  20. I think the td5 is the best engine land rover had ever produced. My TD5 Disco is now approaching 400000 km's, all with a 3 tonne trailer at 120 KM/h, I haven't had a single engine problem. Doesn't smoke and doesn't use any oil... My 300 defender is good, but my td5 is way better...(but today went to see a tdv6, and think I'm going to buy that tomorrow, hope it will be as good as the td5)
  21. It will become a commercial. Roadtax otherwise is way too much for a car that I'm only using for my business. Roadtax for a D3 is € 2685 ( ~2376 pounds) a year but for a commercial only € 544,- ( 481 pounds) The same with import tax; none for a commercial but around € 10.000,- for a normal one
  22. Thanks for all replies! I don't have too much money so a TDV8 is out of reach. I think I will buy an early D3 TDV6 (but I think the RR is better looking, but that's not really an argument, I make my money with my car, so I just need the one that will suit my needs best) Unfortunately these cars are a lot more expensive in LHD than that they are in the UK. (I live in Holland, but I think I will buy in France or Germany)
  23. I'm probably selling my D2 TD5. It has been a perefect car, no problems except for a new gearbox at 200000miles. Super reliable and very good for towing. But now it's got 250 K on the clock ....... So I need another car, I do at least 40000 miles a year and I want comfort, so I'm not gonna tow in my defender. I'm thinking about a D3 or a RR TD6. I know nothing about these cars.... So I have a lot of questions, I hope someone has answers.. -Which one is best for my use? lots of miles and almost all with a 3 ton trailer through all of europe. -Should I choose a manual one or an auto gearbox, I prefer auto, but I know that the D2 auto is not good for towing. But maybe with these newer cars the auto is as good as the manual -Reliability.... What to expect, will they be as good as my D2? -fuel consumption, which one is cheaper to run tdv6 or TD6? -what to look for when buying? weak points on these cars? All info is welcome!
  24. The problem is that we don't where the 90 came from! I don't care about people trying to avoid road tax, but I do care about people stealing our cars and then put an 'old' series identity on it! Don't say that this is a stolen car, but if he cannot proove where he bought all the ninety parts from, it just might be....
  25. Then it should have been shortened, and I think would also need a SVA?
