  1. its a spacer to space an lt77 defender bell housing off of an r380 gearbox annnddd HOW MUCH???

A very nice forum member on here did my engine adaptor (1uzfe to diesel r380/lt77) for I think 350. He was going to do this for under a hundred as its smaller and didnt need moving around in the machine etc. I thought the engineering firm that yesterday quoted me 700 on the books and 480 off was having a laugh! The material is about £50 but this guy would have been doing it all by hand rather than CNC..... Might as well buy a mill for that :S

So what did you do to half the price?

  2. Are you suuuurrreee you dont have time Si? Pretty Please? Pop it on before you go to bed, flip it over the next day and all done? :) I can reward you with money, beer, women, doritos and anything your heart desires!

Failing that I'll give Marden a call.... Thanks

If anyone knows anywhere closer to Warwickshire that would be great.

  3. Hi

I need a spacer made for my project. Unfortunately the person that was going to do it no longer can due to circumstances. i have looked into it with a couple of different companies but so far I have just got ridiculous quotes. The piece is 240x190x83mm at its largest dimensions. I did consider buying a vertical slide for our lathe but the biggest I could find was 150x100mm which is obviously far too small. Does anyone know of a larger vertical slide for a Myford super 7?

This is what I need to make:

The dimensions I have stated are without the tube protruding. I can use it with or without this there. Although if someone was to do the tube as well it would be easiest if it was made separately and tig welded to it. I have the design in DWG files and can therefore save it in anything autocad will let me..... This would make it easiest and quickest with a CNC mill so it could be loaded in and then out it pops at the other end!

Is there anyone that can help me out without cutting an arm and a leg off?

    Thanks

  4. when you thinking on it being completed?

    I decline to answer/guess.....

Well a small amount of progress has been made! I think I now have a final design for my extra spacer! Its not quite just a spacer any more thought. Firstly we had to calculate the actual thickness it needed to be. Unfortunately it wasnt as simple as one bell housing length minus the other due to difference in the input shafts like where the splines are located from the end of them. So yesterday morning my dad and I put the gearbox into the back of the engine to see how deep the shaft would go. Fortunately the shaft will go in just! far enough so that the total length of the splines engage with the friction plate and just sit off the back of the engine by a mm or 2.... So glad I dont have to shorten the input shaft at all! :-S

Then came the other problem that I realise I had. As im using the lt77 bell housing and a spacer with the R380 gearbox I realised I didnt have a guide for the clutch release bearing... So after a few measurements I have managed to incorporate a clutch release bearing guide into the spacer. I have left (I think) 5mm of space between the end of the guide and the friction plate. Does anyone know if this is a small enough gap or it needs to be smaller?

Anyway heres a couple of pictures of the latest design. Ill sleep on it now and make sure im happy with it before committing to having it made.

  5. Gearbox ordered. Ebay said Today.... But I would be surprised if it does as I havent had a notification to say its shipped yet! Either way my bell housing spacer wont have been made yet as my main man is very busy with a couple of other things at the moment. This isnt a problem as im on a Eurotrip for 9 days from Thursday in my £280 Volvo 740 estate! :i-m_so_happy:

As soon as everything arrives Ill get some work done and give an update because its been far too long!. Think I might be suffering from some of those mid project blues that have been mentioned

  6. At one point in my 200tdi defender 90 the diaphragm in the fuel pump was stuck solid and was not moving at all under boost. I would still register 0.5 Bar of boost but it was terribly slow, like painfully slow..... Was having to change down into 3rd to go up some hills along the A303 and was getting down 25/30mph from memory. I did however manage about 340 miles from a tank which equated to about 33/34mpg after correcting for tyre size.

  7. Soooooooo I was going to go home and work on this at the weekend but the gearbox in my defender decided it was time to die! So ended up taking the gearbox out of my series and putting it in my defender! Now I really need a another disco/range rover R380. Preferably a late suffix D2 V8 variant but at the moment will consider almost anything! If anyone reading this has something then send me a PM. Im willing to travel (but am going to spain between 11th and 24th with internet access...) so would not be able to pick up until after that.

    Cheers

  8. Im 26 with adrian flux insured for I think 16,000 miles fully comp, 6 years NCD for £355 last year. Just coming round to renewal time so it will be interesting to see what they have for me....

  9. Thanks everyone!

You're almost there Jad, keep at it :) Wonderful job.

Almost there? you must be joking! I could give you a very long list of things that need doing.... One of the biggest at the moment is the gearbox, I want to change the stumpy in there for a Disco 2 manual gearbox, preferably an L suffix one but am having trouble locating one. Anyone know the best place to put a wanted add for something like that? I have put one on this website but no takers at the moment :( Also need a lower dash in good condition. We took the covering off the original dash and you could describe it as a little crusty

  10. Your oil filter is in a slightly strange place - it seems a bit vulnerable there, almost as if you could just leave it on the engine, or does it not fit like that?

    post-19190-0-31245900-1363461660_thumb.jpg

The pipe hangs a little low but the filter is well out the way :)

Oh you're gonna be fooling some blokes in their Golf's at the stoplights in this thing :D absolutely love it! I myself have been dreaming of fitting a jag xk 4,2 into a landie now that I've found out how lovely they are and how cheap they are too! :)
Golfs?!?!? Hopefully destroying golfs, scaring Porsches ;)

The Jag engine would be a good one. 4L supercharged would be nice.... If you buy one from the UK I could be tempted to drive it over to Denmark.... :)

Bit more of an update. Mostly just a bit of bolting together but its now starting to look like a Land Rover! :) so wipers in, windscreen on, washer jets, fuel pump and filter mounted and lots of other little bits. Unfortunately its at the stage where lots of little bits happen but not much seems to happen... My dad has been painting some brackets from the original car so more should go together tomorrow. Oh yeah and the drivers side wing isn't on yet as were having to modify the inner wing to fit around the steering column and box.

  11. Mine wasnt oil pump for that problem... when mine was warm a long time ago the oil light would flicker but not while cold. This was the CAM bearing turning which I think will be your problem.

When my oil pump was the problem I would get pressure briefly and then it would go to zero hot or cold at start up.

Now everything is fixed Cold at idle i will get 75/80psi, warm 12/15psi
