  1. Another thing is that it's harder for an alternator to fully charge a large battery. That's also the reason why I have 2 alternators. Two smaller batteries are easier to fully charge with 2 alternators. 2 batteries on one alternator is something like one large battery on one alternator, but a splitt-charge solution somewhat makes it better than if you just connect them together. edit: I think
  2. Would it not be easier to set up a second alternator, and have a set of jumper cables if you ned up needing both ? Then run auxiliary things, such as webasto, winch, worklight, fridge, gps etc. of the second battery/alternator.
  3. Mounting the winch under the boot, will conflict with the fuel tank. not sure if there are fuel tanks that allow mounting of a winch back there.
  4. From what I understad after mailing a bit with Carl, you don't loose much angle, not over a normal disco where you have a towbar underneath. but there is some modification needed that is not straight forward. It's of course possible to make a 2x2" hitch receiver (or what do you call it), and use that one, but then 1. it has a huge effect on the departure angle if mounted 2. Do you really have it there when you need it ? Have a look at Extreme4x4.co.uk I myself have a tankguard/detachable towbar from southdown, which Im not sure is still in business I was planning on making myself a detachable winchmount for that one, until I saw the one Carl made. Now I'm back to the drawing board/thinking cage again.. // faj
  5. Don't mix red and blue antifreeze. They will react, and you get gel.
  6. No, in total. I've added a bit more now when I use kerosene, but I've soon used all of it. Then I guess I'll go back to normal. that is 2 litres 2stroke with 10000 litres of diesel. Or maybe a bit more. I think've read something about up to 0.1 l per 80 litres.
  7. not sure what "if derv" means, but I've added ~2 litres of 2stroke oil, and have driven maybe 110-120000 km since I got the car. almost 3 years ago.
  8. A mild winter is a bad one, I'm afraid. But i live in Norway, and love the winter. And yes - I drive 4x4
  9. I think it lubricates the valves. The engine runs smoother. I think there is a thread on the Norwagian forum about it, I've nevere heard anything harmfull about using two-stroke oil. Now I'm using a bit of two-stroke oil together with kerosene (My neighbor found a barrel with some kerosene while clearing out his basement...) I also run the engine on a mixture of wvo and petrol sometimes. I think maybe the 200tdi takes a bout anything I give it.
  10. I removed the viscous fan on my 200 tdi disco shortly after I got it in february 2009. Then used the disco to pull a lot of sail dinghys over the mountain from south of Norway to east of Norway, and back home again, I guess it weight 1-1.5 tonne. Then later that summer, I pulled a trailer with the equipment for a weeks scout camp up to the middle of Norway, still without a viscous fan. No problem. During the winter, while "driving" through some unplowed roads, with ~50-90 cm snow in front of the car (managed to get ~300 meters and back in a couple of hours), I noticed a red light at the dashboard. To get the most of power to the winch, I had turned of the fan inside the car, and was running the engine at ~3000 rpm. Then I bought an electrical fan, and thermostat. (This was in 2010). I had some long journeys with trailer in 2010 as well. Without any fan. The fan was mounted an connected before we went to Polen to participate in 31st Pomeranian. Now I have a switch inside where I can choose between 3 modes. Thermostat controlled fan, fan always off or fan always on. Schematics are here: It works for me. As other has said, you only need a fan if you are going slow, but still put a load on your engine. At least on a 200 tdi // Finn-Arne, who is still moderated, and therefor a bit slow on the replies...
  11. What kind of noise ? Mine got a bit more silent when I added a litre of 2-stroke oil. "Tick over" is when the engine is idling, right ?
  12. Why ?? I can maybe understand the R380, but why change from 200tdi into 300tdi ? Maybe I must read the thread back again, and see if there are som valid reasons. I love my 200tdi.
  13. Have you checked the charging from the alternator ? I Had the same problem on an old Volvo with a defective charging regulator.
  14. What kind of engine do you have ? I have a 200 TDI, on which was running 21% WVO up until August. After that I thought I was going to Drive a lot less, and have not collected as much as I used to do. I can fetch ~35 litres a week, but I wont use WVO if I dont run to much. Now I have some other stuff I need to run my car on. Mostly 5 year old diesel and ~10 year old paraffin(? not sure if it's the correct word) I've also added some petrol to the WVO, it makes the waste in it drop to the bottom. I think I added ~2dl of petrol to ~8 liters of WVO.
