  1. I did think was only i, that noticed more that the usual, "off route" damage to the lanes we used over the weekend !!

A friend took his other half over Sarn Helen on sunday, his first time over for about 6 months, and a local to the area, thread on difflock HERE

Les oh, i hope you have his number, and reported it !!!

Unfortunately I witnessed a similar incident on Houndkirk moor (Peak District) over the weekend whilst I was training my search dog. A couple of trucks kept driving (at a fair pace, forcing walkers to stop) up and down the lane. When I next saw them they were off the lane and driving a small track across the moor (not marked on the map and definately not cleared for traffic). As if this werent bad enough, it looked as if they were out to rip up as much of the moor as they could (wheel spins, hard braking). Unfortunately I couldn't get close enough to see their plates before they shot off.:angry::angry::angry::angry:

  2. Simon, how much wire is there between the connector and the battery ring terminals ?

and where is the best place to locate the connector ?

Personally using 175a connectors, 40mm extra flexible cableand croc clips with no problems. All sourced from VWP. Simon's kit sounds good though

  3. Yep, will be entering again this year with my faithful winch biatch (Trev). I won't be doing all 8 though. I think that Slab will be the first one missed and West Harptree the other. Hopefully I won't miss any more than that (Neil - hows it looking for another event in the North?) with six out of the eight counting towards your final score.

The list of jobs to do on the truck is ever growing. I hope to have it all done prior to the first event I enter but this is very unlikely.

  4. Mandy, like others have said, your injury is very unfortunate and one which I would not wish on anybody.

I regularily get called to assist those in difficulty/ injured persons and those who are missing in the Peak District. As part of a mountain rescue team most of the calls I attend are to persons who have accidently injured themselves. Some of the injuries sustained are likely not to affect the person in later life, some will find that the injury will affect their abilites after the accident (like yours) and unfortunately some will not live through the accident.

I all of the incidents I have attended and in debriefs after incidents, I can never once recall an injured party asking if they could sue the land owner. Most walkers (that I have spoken to) are happy in the knowledge that that they take part in the activity at their own risk.

Although most of the incidents we attend are in the national park, they are on paths or in areas which mostly belong to private land owners. The Countryside and Rights Of Way Act (CROW Act) has forced many land owners to give further unrestricted access to their property. Whilst I am all for the right to roam and the new areas CROW has released, I believe that the expectation for all land owners to maintain all of their (sometimes extensive) property so that there is no possibility of a member of public injuring themselves is not attainable.

  5. hmmm, been thinking about this but ismn;t this nothing more than a thck piece of metal machines to the right shape? So can you not make your own if you have the right thicness of aluminium say? The sealing is doen by an o-ring so it does nto need to be machined flat to mega precision?

Unfortunately I don't have access to machines to do the work. Therefore I will have to buy from a manufacturer (as much as it pains me to part with cash). I would rather pay someone from the forum if they were doing a job lot :ph34r:

  6. Trying to decide whether to bother upgrading to new 'All rounder' tyres eg bf Goodrich 255/85 x16 mud terrains, or buy a set of more serious tyres on a second set of rims for offroad days.

I am on standard height suspension.

So, where is the cheapest place for bf Goodrich 255/85 x16s? and what sort of price am I looking at?

    Thanks,

    Regards,

    Diff

I bought mine from Paddocks last year. The cheapest place local to me. They're £89 plus vat according to the website. Having said that, I think that 255's will me too tall for standard ride height. I'm sure others will be along in a min to either confirm of deny.

Personally I use BFG MT's for day to day driving and change to Simex for comps

  7. I had a friend a while ago who was using a cheap spanner to take off an alternator, and whilst pulling downwards with great force snapped the jaws open and punched himself in the nose - giving himself 2 of the most incredible black eyes I have ever seen.

I was reminded of that incident this morning when I woke up completely unable to move my left arm. Don't know exactly what I have done to it, but I spent last night swinging spanners underneath 'Turbocharger's landy.

Come on then - how many times have you swung a rubber mallet, missed the target, and hit yourself squarely in the testicles? Or indeed any other Landy induced injuries?

My brother managed to knock off the bonnet stay whilst working in the engine bay of a S3. As if the bonnet wasn't heavy enough, it had a spare wheel mounted on it. The release pin on the bonnet hit him in the back of the head. Luckily he escaped with a large gash (blood everywhere) which was glued/ stapled and stitched together.

I always tie back the bonnet now when doing jobs in the engine bay.

Me, I decided to change the rear springs on a disco last thing at night. I didn't look properly at the jack before I starting jacking. I removed the wheel and shortly afterwards the disco came sidewards, pinning me against racking in workshop. Luckily I had a friend around who released me with another jack. Outcome: very bruised ribs and back.

  8. I have DeCarbon shocks on my 90 and I have not managed to damage them.

I do know someone who slipped in the shower though so I would suggest only taking baths, all showers are death traps.

    Chris

    Only baths for me :lol::lol:

Still wouldn't go back to De-carbons

  9. I've got a Matt Lee steering guard on mine. It came with the vehicle. The only holes in it are where 'MJL' has been cut through. It's made out of heavy ali. With heavy use I've managed to give it some scaring but not bent it (yet). Cleaning it isn't really a problem either. I don't think that Matt makes them any more though, I can't find them on the website.

  10. It's that time of the year again. The 90 has come up for renewal. I have been with Sureterm for the last three years but I think that it's time to shop around.

Who are you using? Will they allow for modifications? What other bonuses do they give??

    Dave

  11. Not uprated or extended or anything!

I am looking at shocks to go with RR HD Police Spec Springs on my Disco. I want decent off-road performance, but i also want to be able to tow heavy things...

So I want some decent manufactuerers please?

I seem to remember something about De Carbon shocks breaking...

Anyway, experiences and suggestions much appreciated

    ta

    Mark

I had the De-Carbon snapping experience with a pair of rears whilst on an event. The weld that attaches the eyes on the top of the shocks to the rod snapped.

I've since fitted pro-comps and have never looked back.

  12. RAC for me. I blew a diff a Slindon last year. I rang them, told them I wanted recovery only, no service van and they sent a flatbed straight out.

The driver was a bit shocked when I said I was going to Matlock. He asked where it was. My reply was 'North, 250 miles', that was the last job for his shift.:lol::lol: The only problem was I just wanted to go to sleep on the way back but he wouldn't shut up.

  13. right with in the next month i plan on getting my landys suspension sorted

so wheres the best place to get the following

    +2" front turrets

rear relocation cones (are the reverse location cones any good )

+2" brake lines maybe more with 12 " stroke shocks

poly bush or similar , or do i stick to standard ?

qt radius arms (is there an allternative , are they really needed ?)

ome springs , and what spec ?

allready decided on the gwyn lewis 12" ome shocks and rear mounts , just trying to deide on rest

do you think the donny show going to be worth attending this year for parts ?

    thanks in advance

    Dafydd

I'm using qt front radius arms. I'm well impressed with them but I would probably go for a cheaper option such as those from Gwyn if I knew about them at the time.

I'm using the gon2far reverse cones ever since I managed to bend one of my scrapiron ones on a comp. I have had no problems with them and not having the constant twang of spings relocating has been excellent.

I think gon2far will be launching a new suspension system to rival the scorpion evolution kit at Donny show. It may well be worth you going.
