  1. Hello folks,

I am urgently after a splined (not keyed) motor pinion gear to fit an 8274. I need to get hold of one this week in order to rebuild my winch before a challenge event this weekend. I have already tried Arbil and D44 but they are both saying no stock until the end of the month  . Has anyone got one kicking round that I could buy???

  2. My Ex-Mod 90 has what looks like a Southdown front steering guard fitted (and very nice it is too)

The army also fitted a massive axle/diff guard at the front, which is bolted on to the four bolts that hold the radius arms on and is jackable. This is like a huge plate that effectively lowers the ground clearance for the whole axle.

The problem has always been when off roading behind other solihul products with diff on same side. My motor has to flatten its way thru as the whole of the front axle guard lowers the clearance to almost that of the diff...

SO she is coming off, and I want to get a good diff & steering guard. See that QT do one, so thought I would ask about getting a combined unit or a diff guard and a steering protector separately...

    Any suggestions....?

I'm using QT diff guards front and rear. The track rod and steering rod reinforced with sumo bars and my steering guard is a matt lee design. To date I've had no problems with any of this lot (touch wood) despite a few heavy knocks

  3. My set up is similar to Budgie's - window rocker switch with isolator that also isolates the winch via a can solenoid - stops undesirables having some fun with the wanderlead socket on the front grille...

I'm also using the secondary solenoid to isolate via a rocker.

I'm just starting to look at an external switch mounted near the winch f0r the winch biatch to use. Any suggestions?

  4. I would say that the challenge events are slightly different, because of the involvement with AWDC and many other good people.

I do not believe it would be right to penalise them because of a sponsor.

I would still quite like to take part in one of their challenges - all the above might make it quite a fun day!

Gone on simon, i'd love to see Colon's face

  5. I suspect some forum members have already paid (a not insignificant amount of money) up front for one or more of the AWDC/Scrapiron events, it would be unfair to expect them to boycott. Not really fair on Neil/AWDC either.

If I ever get the 90 finished (no comments required) then I was thinking about entering some of the AWDC/Scrapiron challenges, but as much as I'd like to support the AWDC I'd now be thinking much more carefully about that decission.

I think competing in the event but wearing one of the new t-shirts and applying a few X-Eng stickers would be a good compromise.

I will still be competing in these events even though I am upset at the way that Simon has been treated. However, I dont think that the AWDC should suffer because of it. As I have stated before, I am more than willing to put x-eng/ anti scrapiron stickers on my truck for these events.

  6. Won't be going to slab but will be doing 6 out of the 8 starting at round 2. (Should have my genuine x-eng brake fitted by then)

Simon - send me some x-eng stickers and I will ensure that they are attached to prominent places on my truck prior to competing. (Don't normally put stickers on to my truck, so your's will be the only ones on there (except for the number boards))

  7. Sean made and fitted a full external cage to my 90. No problems with any of the workmanship. I would highly recommend them. He even got his other half to open the workshop up whilst he was at a show so I could collect my truck on the way back past.

  8. In a (£250) mk1 fiesta on New Years Eve on the way home from work. The road at the back of my house was quite snowy. On approaching the tight right hander at the bottom, the car continued straight on. I went straight through a 6ft wall and into a garden.

Damage to me - none except for pride (oh and the days of pain from scutching the old mortar off the bricks and labouring for the bricky)

Damage to car - front end quite bent and passenger door wouldn't open (still managed to sell the car on a month later)

Damage to wall - completely sh*gged, had to employ a bricky on a back hander to rebuild for me

  9. My setup isn't even on a LR but it works - have the socket mounted inside the vehicle and use a short extension cable run through the back door (the door rubber will accomodate this without crushing it)

That way the socket doesn't corrode and isn't vulnerable to damage.

The extension cables are pennies at Towsure etc.

Mine's here too. Mounted to the rear light cover panel on the O/S

  10. Sounds good to me anyone out there want me to help set up and marshall for them ? sure me and a friend could give a helping hand :)

I'm sure Neil Whitford (Najw on here) will be along shortly to take up your offer for this years series of AWDC challenges.

  11. I use an FIA battrey master switch.

Not a bad price at around thirty quid.

I get mine from Vehicle Wiring Products but if you have a race shop near they should have them in stock.

    Page 9 in VWP catalogue.

Yes it stops the enging when you switch it off.AFASIK it is the only one that does.

I'm using one of these too for the engine and associated electrics.

    Desciption by VWP is:

Battery isolator switch with alternator protection. Designed to prevent damage to alternator & electrical systems when isolating the battery. Isolates main battery feed as well as the ignition feed, thus preventing engine run on,(obligatory in competition). 10mm terminal studs. It looks like this:

The winch is also isolated through this by using it in conjuction with my own version of the Warn Power Interupt Kit
