  1. maybe it is just the blatant Sc****on across the pages that fuels the dislike, after their actions of the not to distant past.

I think that if S/R weren't mentioned in this thread there wouldn't be the amount of criticism that is being levelled. I have to say that I am not a big fan of S/R but I realise that events like these wouldn't be viable without the support of a main sponsor. When I enter these event's I don't do it out of support for S/R but because I know that Neil, Simon, Carole and the rest of the AWDC team will produce another top class event.

  2. Neil,

I've had the event in my diary and on the calendar for quite some time now. Sounds like another top quality AWDC event. Provided the soon to be Mrs Divster doesn't put any spanners in the works we should be there along with both mine and Trev's SWMBO's watching.

Will the £10 spectator fee still be applicable to competitors families??

  3. Well, we nearly didn't make it. The auto shift became detached in my hand when loading the car onto the trailer. It was nealry the last straw and I was very close to chucking all of the toys out of the pram. We perserveered though and I'm glad we made the effort.

Another thorougly cracking event (again another well done to Neil, Carole, Simon and the rest of the team) on marred by the weather and mechanical difficulties. The rain made the site progressively more interesting and I was surpised (but not disappointed) that we only had the one roll over this year. The punches that I saw had no sign of people not following the marked out routes so I am hopeful that the people concerned have now decided to play fairly.

Despite our late arrival, problems with the car before we even got scrutineered and problems with fuelling all the way around the site (Paul's got a good picture of how we looked for most of the day) I have to say that I am more than impressed with the end result. Two months off now to get all of the niggly bits sorted (unfortunately SWMBO won't let me come back from honeymoon early to go to West Harptree). We're hopeful that we'll be fighting fit ready for a full day without problems at Cowm Quarry. Looking forward to it already :):)

  4. Everyone ready?

    Lewis

No... not yet!! I'm trapped at work at the moment (Saturday morning) and I've still got the motor to sort

IIRC yours is a V8 (good man) ………….. if so then the problem is most likely an air lock in the heads / inlet manifold and the thermostat is very reluctant to open on hot air ………..sometimes slackening off the coolant sensor removes the air ……………

Severe over fueling is often due to a faulty coolant sensor reporting to the ECU that the engine is cold.

If it’s a flapper ……… then I have most of the parts as spares …………

    :)

    Ian

Thanks Ian, theres no thermostat in at the moment and the coolant sensor has recently been replaced. Ill try slackening the coolant sensor before I start and get a bit more involved with it.

I'm trying to get hold of a batch of known good spares for the flapper system to carry around with me. Unfortunately I've not located anything in my (very low) price range yet.

hope this rain stops or those side slopes will be fun :o

Oh christ.....I hate this site in the dry....gawd knows what I'll be like in the wet....

I'm trying to convince Trev that his magenta (read pink) motor bike leathers and the hawiaan shirt would be a lovely winch biatch ensemble.:lol::lol:

  5. Yep, myself and the hawaiian shirt wearing biatch will be there  . Got to fiddle with that damned efi stuff first.......if my replacement fuel pump ever turns up (I only ordered it a week and a half ago)aaaaarrggghhh.

Anyone got an external tank pump suitable for a 3.5 efi V8 system kicking around that they dont want? (I have been using bosch part 0580464008)

Well it starts & runs.... but still seems rich :angry: Temp guage also shoots up to boil point within a few minutes but the coolant in the expansion tank is barely luke warm. (No coolant leaks and I don't think there's an airlock). Hopefully is a dodgy temp sensor/ water pump. Need to sort this and diagnose the over-fuelling before the weekend.

  6. If you want new rims, why not try the Stazworks copies from Straightforward supplies, available in any rim size 15-20", any offset, any PCD and centre, double beadlock with rock rings (urgh gross :( )

The look good for the money

    Lewis :)

I'm not personally after new rims (more than happy with my reverse disco steelies at the mo), I just wondered what other's thought of an alloy mach 5 replica.

Your right tho, those rock rings are an aquired taste :blink:

  8. this man is probably grooming his next kill - as such... many people on the challenge seen now run and hide from his constant boring chatting...

one day - he may get the hint and stop chatting. I don't think we have every started an event on time - we are always (bar divster - due to breakages) the last to leave because he chats too much. :D

Steady on..... don't bring me into this. You were always leaving site before me last year because you had the unreliable motor and always went home half way through the day. I managed a whole day with it on it's first event with me (OK I had a few issues with reliability, but it did last all day) and still left the site before you two.

You would have sean Pigster having a right old strop too! :D

Surely not..... that never happens does it :P

  9. and Divster - -shouldn't you be planning your honeymoon - and make sure it doesn't conflict with any off road dates... :D

Too late, it does (AWDC round 4). I've tried to convince her that we should come back early from the Alps but I don't think I'll win this one :lol:

Not all Defenders are fitted with the low fuel level light, there are 2 types of sender unit, my '89 110 has the light wired from the sender unit, [so 3 wires to that bit] others just have 2 wires, if yours has 2 at the sender then your loom/vehicle is not & never has been fitted with the circuit.

there's a extra relay behind the right hand end of the instrument pack if the system is fitted.

If this is the case, you could easily retrofit the 3 terminal sender if you wanted a low fuel warning light that badly. Alternatively, just keep checking the guage ;)

  10. Been looking at the output from my EFi ECU.

Also interesting is that the Durite tacho is way off.... Ticking over at 760 is RPM is reading 1000 ish on the tacho.... 3.5k on the tacho is only 2.3 on the system direct from the ECU.... (Yes the switch on the back is set to 8 cylinders.. and no I don't want a nice diesel instead....) I'm wondering if it's wired incorrectly internally... Doing the sums, looks like it's reading out 6 cylinders but using 8 as a count...

Anyone suggest either an adjustable tacho unit (52mm) or digital one ?

    Neil

Oh bugger..... just put a durite tacho into mine. I hope it doesn't show the same fault!!!

  11. Similar to recent winch isolater thread.......

Thinking about an isolator/safety cut out for my 300tdi, but winch is an h14 mech pto. So presumably only way it can be shut off in a hurry is to stop engine. Bur how do I do this?

Is it as simple as a switch in the feed to the fuel solenoid, or is there another way? I know jack about this side of things!

    Cheers

    James

Also, anyone else with a mech pto h14 - is the worm box oil filler plug on the side of the winch housing - looks like a grub screw/typical filler plug thingy, above the worm box? And where is the drain plug?!

    James,

It should be possible to isolate the winch without cutting the engine. My brother has an ex-national grid 110 fitted with a mechanical capstan winch. There are push stop buttons on the front of the vehicle which kill the winch but allow the engine to run on. Unfortunately I haven't looked into how it's wired in though.

  12. I fitted a genuine warn isolator to my car and it has been fine for 3 year.Think its listed as a warn power interupter kit or somthing similar and it consists of a solenoid and all the wiring and an illuminated switch. My plan for if it ever fails is just bypass the solenoid ;) to get it working, but upto now-no problems :D

    Paul :)

I looked at the Warn Power Interrupt for my last motor. The setup looked simple so I just copied it using none Warn parts. It worked well with the cheap solenoid I'd bought eventually turning out to be the weak link. I had thought about using something similar in my latest truck but employing an albright instead of a cheap solenoid. I eventually decided to go for the low maintenance option and put a large manual cut out in the cab and anderson connectors close to the winch.
