  1. Just to add my two penneth:

Divster, The late 110 type axles take P38 diff like you were asking about lately - so a combination of Petergg's short-nose diff, Wills axle casing and a set of standard 24spline shafts will see you with a fairly strong setup. I'm not 100% that standard 24spline shafts are a direct fit but i have fitted them in the past with no issues so they cant be that diffrent

    Lewis :)

Also may be of interest to anyone looking for 4pin diff, one on eblag with shafts

    OK, try again then...

Peter, have you got a price in mind for the short nose???

Will, I'll definately take the casing off your hands if I can agree a price with Peter??

James, have you had a think of whether you're willing to part with your 4 pin? If so, how much £££???

  2. Divster, I've also got a brand new 110 rear axle casing and it looks like it takes standard hubs and stubs. Not sure about halfshafts, though...

If you're interested I bought it for £40 and you can have it for that. The short nose diff will go straight in.

Oops, not fully thought out what I wanted before typing the keys. The diffs I want need to be in standard carriers, not salisbury diff carriers  . Appologies again.

  3. I have one of those, needs a rebuild bearings and seals etc. I also have a short nose 4 pin diff from a late td5 110? some where.

    Peter

Well guys, I'm after two 4 pin diffs.

Pete, how much for yours? I'm particularily interested in the short nose.

  4. too be fair i bought it off Darth Dicky this weekend so may sell it on complete or as just the diff as all i want is the diff hosuing, pinion and crown wheel (i dont need the centre) so will split any profit with him 50/50 anyway.

    James,

I'm after a complete 4 pin just like that. Could do you a swap with a standard diff + some £££. Let me know if your interested.

    Dave

  5. Yup, I had thought about that but I'd estimated around £450 per diff which was a bit more than I have budgeted in my build. The P38 axles I had spotted were significantly less £££'s and so prompted the questions.

My other thought is possibly front & rear shaved salisburys ala Mr Marshallsay. Anybody know of a front Salisbury or disk braked rear currently for sale????

  6. If all you want is a 4 pin diff in a std axle why not just get a four pin diff centre for your existing diff? Ashcrofts can supply the diff centres or complete built up diffs I think. Talk to Mr Ashtrans just up there ^^^^ :)

  7. Dave, looking at the axle a P38 diff could be fitted into an old style Rover axle BUT it would be a fair amount of work. I've looked at doing the opposite with a 'P38 spec' 110 rear axle I picked up cheaply as it seems a lot beefier than the standard rear tube.

IIRC Wolf vehicles also had P38 spec axles (ie same as the rear on the newer 110/30s) at both ends.

I had my eye on a couple of P38 axles going at the right price. I want the reliabilty of a 4 pin diff but don't want to go for a locker. (The vehicle will be competing in a class which rules out lockers). My thoughts were to simply take out the diffs and swap into the current axles. Unfortunately avaliable fabrication time (and skills) are minimal so I was looking for a straight forward bolt in option. Having said that I was prepared to have to tackle prop modification.

  8. Hi, I'm looking to make my own winch bumper for my 8274, as my current bumper acts as a plough and is too flimsy!

I want it to be as recessed as possible (no front mount intercooler to worry about), raised up for good approach angle and to be simple to make.

I'm after any pics/ideas/tips to help with my design.

Will probably make the winch cradle first, then look at chassis mounting, then finally weld some tube or box on the sides.

And was thinking of 10mm plate for cradle, bent to form a box round the winch, like most current designs.

I used a Gwyn Lewis bumper on my last motor. It was very well constructed, highmounted and took a good few bashings.

I'll be looking at fab'ing this kind of thing for the new motor.

  9. There's some more publicity for the forum inside the latest issue of the All Wheel Driver (the AWDC magazine):

Five other organisations were due to take part with representatives from Midland Off Road Club, Challenge South West, Bristol & West Off Road Club, Essex Off Road Club and a bunch of misfits grouped under the banner of the LR4x4.com forum

    Misfits

P.S. NAJW, there was no need to photoshop that bald patch in on me ;)

  10. I had a set of alloy spacers on my 90. Well, for around 50 or so miles anyway. I was a little worried when I put them on as the spacers didn't have coned recesses to ensure they located correctly and they were fitted to the hub with standard nuts. I didnt notice at the time that the suds in the spacers were just threaded into the alloy (without the use of 243 or any other thread lock). They were all fitted correctly and tightened to DFT at both the hub and wheel. However, I was very close to losing a wheel on a twisty welsh lane at about 50mph with SWMBO sat in the passenger seat. Needless to say the spacers were returned for a full refund and I am now highly dubious of the things.
