  1. I shall be about over New Year and I am sure I can find some locals who would love a trip out, I have all the details of the routes you did plus a few more besides and at least another two fords !! At present very deep !! I will PM you a phone number
  2. For that money it's a steal, the alloy bulheads are very rare should be alloy cladding to a steel angle frame used twice according to the bible (James Taylors Original Series One) 1949 and then again in 1952 ! But evidently also supplied as replacements. Check that the springs are right should be narrow ones on an 80 inch that early, the bits are now very sought after as the 60th anniversary hove on the horizon. Best thing is to get the chassis numbers and engine numbers as the Series One Club can tell you when and where it was built and sold from that. These sought of projects are in high demand so I would grab it before a dealer hears and gazumps the price up. If I got £1500.00 for my Series One I would be pleased as it is very non original so one with all the right bits is worth at least £3500.00 one in this quarters Series One Club mag for £3750.00. theres also a lights behind the grille one for £5k so not to be sneezed at. If you need any advice I can suggest you ring Phil Barry a dealer who is in Kendal and is very knowledgeable 01539 824181 I am sure he would be interested !
  3. Hows about these, seem to be cheap and light everything he makes is really good http://www.lrboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=4906
  4. All f******g pillocks in my book, it rains on go the stupid red rear lights, a bit of mist when you can see 1/2 mile on go the stupid red lights, one day I shall drive right into the back of someone with them on and claim I was blinded by them and lost all spacial awareness !!!!!! Middle lane hoggers that's another especially when towing, the prat in a black Citroen C4 with a Glasgow number plate still didn't understand why I let rip with headlights at him, nothing in the inside lane for miles but he is in the middle lane just managing about 60mph and I am doing 70 with Ifor and Rangie on the back, a quick trip into the outside lane and a quick return saw him scuttle in then proceed to try and box me behind the next truck with lots of gesticulation. A 110 is a bit bigger my friend and you can go into the outside lane legally !!!! Best I ever saw was a truck almost put a car under the trailer when he pulled back in !!!! Years ago the Cumbrian Police used to stop them and remind them of the "rule of the road" travel on the left and overtake on the right, "there is no Fast Lane" it's overtaking lane 1 and overtaking lane 2 !!!!! Nowadays it's just get the safety camera's up onthe next bridge !!
  5. That's a much better picture, general advice on that one is it would be about bonnet deep just as you try to get up between the walls. We always come down that side and up where the picture is taken from as it is so tight especially as the bottom stone under the water is not in line with the others and if you ride up it you smack the back wing on the stone at the side, thanks daughter ! She borrowed my Rangie and bashed the back wing attempting this on her first ever green lane trip, with very little water in the bottom I might add. Next time you come up I must come with you.
  6. That ford is great and quite challenging even with only a little water in as it's steep in and very tight so a good one for newbies to try. But when it's like that it is very dangerous by all reports. Seems you found all the nice fords we have used through the summer, I am trying to verify the access to another not far away from Winton again through the Eden but when I last looked at it lots of "Private Land" "No Entry" signs for what is clearly shown as a UCR. I am hoping to soon meet up with the local County Council Ranger to review a number of lanes for the Cumbrian Heirarchy of Trails project so hopefully we can clear up whether it's a NIMBY with illegal locked gates or a no goer, looked good when I walked up to one side though !
  7. I looked these and what a wet one that was, the one that really got me thinking was the vid "no tracks the other side" took me a while to work that out. The exit from that ford at Winton is very very narrow (90 with about 3 inches either side)and should never in my opinion be attempted A) from the side the vid is taken from as it is very narrow and steep, B) if you cannot see the gravel bank in the vid you won't make it ! The water at the far side is more than likely 4 -5 feet deep and the current will push you over. I am extremely glad no one tried it as it would have been a disaster. http://www.flickr.com/photos/8008377@N02/1...57602917469296/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/8008377@N02/1...57602917469296/ A couple of pics when it is very low for comparison
  8. Thanks guys, I have managed to sort it at last. The transmission was well wound up, must have been manouvering it out of the garage and not noticing diff lock light on. To fix it I jacked both front wheels up and rolled them by hand backwards and frowards. Then got my blow gun on the compressor line and blew into the actuator, a click and its out. I checked by taking the switch out and you can see if the actuator has moved forward to unlock. Made a mistake then of trying it with the wheels jacked up but the switch out, confirmed it was unstuck as it didn't roll off the jacks ! But, I now have a good puddle of oil on the floor ! That's something else new I have learnt about LR and the transmission.
  9. Have struggled over a few weeks to change the noisy LT95 in my old Rangie but all back together now, but difflock light was permanently on in the newer box when I fired it all back up. So have taken out the switch and had a look see at the actuator, it seems to be stuck in difflock. Tried a bit of air down the tubes but can't get it to move. Tried up and back in the lane at the back of the house no different. Any good fixes ? Do I have to take the whole assembly off to get it to release, or might it just be wound up in the transmission ? Is the best way to get over that, lift all four wheels and see what happens ?
  10. As a local to the Lakes and having made a few suggestions to Chris about routes other than the LDNP, have any of you been to Northumberland, there are a good few lanes to explore and nice scenery. Could help with some more suggestions going from Penrith across to Hexham can be interesting an area you didn't get into at all.
  11. Looks like you guys had a good time then, thought about how you were getting on when it was peeing down on Saturday night. Also glad you obviously didn't just use the Lakes roads, I see pics of The Highway and Breasthigh in there and as usual hordes of Bobblies Not !!!!!! Piccies of the fords are really good, and that's the most water I have seen coming over Rutter Force !!!
  12. Bottom hose. from engine to rad, set to 82 dgrees, well that was advice I had. Mine is in the top hose as I am too lazy !!!!!
  13. Would sound superb just like a Rover but all modern V8s ahve heaps of very clever elecktrickery so could be very time consuming to get it going unless you have full access to computer etc etc. Me if I was doing it would go down the Chevy V8 route, heaps of tuning stuff available and with a set of nice headers sound just luvverly
  14. I have always understood it is preferable to have the sliding joint at the transfer box / handbrake drum end, my workshop manuals for RR etc always say this as does my Series One one.
  15. Yes, my Nissan engined Rangie has Spax load leveller coil overs, basically an extra light spring on the shocker as an addition to the normal spring. Doesn't droop at all and has little roll even with no anti roll bars. But they are too stiff and will be coming off in due course, I have adjusted the shock to it's softest setting but it still affects articulation.
  16. You shouldn't need plugs unless it tips down, the rivers are pretty low up here and most of the routes do not require wading. Only one I have suggested is Breasthigh Road, where there is a ford at the end, but it's only wheel deep at present so no problem for a normal vehicle, we had a group through there a couple of weeks ago and no plugs in as far as I know.
  17. Using the daihatsu pump, but as you say it's kind of low I am not sure about a bracket to move it. I have only recently got the beastie and need to sort the broken gearbox before I get into mods. It's not the Rangie in my avatar, that is the one with a Nissan Patrol engine in it, just fixing the gearbox in that, someone put EP90 in the main box and the layshaft bearings were all shot.
  18. My Rangie uses the Daihatsu regulator, but I can't really answer the question it's inthe barn at Hexham and I am 100 miles away. I will have a look see next time I am up, otherwise try Conversion and Precision they might tell you what wires go where from their conversion kits !
  19. If you need any help with routes, let me know I live very locally and have driven most in the last few months. Don't just restrict yourselves to the Lakes as there are loads of other lanes outside the park the best of which is Breasthigh road, just off the Shap/ Kendal road and easily linked with the lane from Sleddale to Kentmere. That one is interesting as a recent trip saw Disco's with muds unable to climb a rock step wher all terrains had no problem. If you journey a bit further there are lots of lanes going up to the Pennines Hartside being the best off the Penrith to Alston road. The main problem you will have especially in the Langdale/ Grizedale bit is the Bobblies who just do not see why they should share their Lake District with motorised users.
  20. This guy has an LT85 lying in his garage he doesn't want might be worth a call http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=17981
  21. Get two big levers, jam one in between the propshaft bolts on the output shaft, then try to turn the front output with a similar bar between the front prop bolts. You should be able to turn it with some effort. I have just bought two BW and tried both using two pry bars about 18 inch long. One was seized so pice came down accordingly !
  22. At last the Ramblers lose, costs awarded against them as well stupid buggers. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfordshire/7045738.stm Cost them £20,000.00 and the British Horse Society £30,000.00 in Council costs, why object to what was effectively a dead end being rerouted But would we all be so ecstatic if it was a Byway ?
  23. Well that's the first time I have been ahead of the game, Series One with nice green economic Montego Diesel engine running on best veggy oil !!!!! In my view running a super economical car as a run around is the most efficient, we have a Fiat Panda Multijet that SWMBO uses day to day, complains when it drops below 65mpg and thats on short trips !! Can get over 70mpg easily n a run, beat that Mr Pious driver
  24. Have a look at this article not written by a greeny but interestingly posted into the Pious Chat Forum http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=31433 The problem is this man is 100% correct but not Politically correct according to the pillocks in charge of this country, including Robbing Gordon.
  25. Been insured with a number of vehicles over a long time with Flux, since early 80s, most of them heavily modded, 3.5 v8 in 1956 Ford Pop amongst other things. They have always been good, claims settled promptly, ask sensible questions and deal with queries well in my opinion. Wife had a huge head on on a single track road in Mull and they couldn't do enough to sort it. I have all my LR insured with them and will continue to as no one seems able to get near their prices. NFU didn't want to know as soon as you said replaced engine with Jap diesel.
