  1. This particular lane would be very vulnerable to huge damage if used through a winter where it crosses th eopen fell as it is totally peat, so I personally think a 4x4 TRO is applicable, especially as the ascent from Barth bridge ends up as being just RR width I tried it up to the farm today it's very very tight. But with a quad/ trail bike it would be no bother and would be quite usable with no damage today as it hasn't rained here for 6 weeks ! My objection is that my understanding of the TRO process as set out by YDNP states that the lane should have the proposal signed at each end just like a planning application a statement in a plastic envelope would suffice, but they haven't done that so surely it negates the process and they have to start again ?
  2. Just been and looked at all three ends to the lane near me, no signs at all stating the proposal. Surely this must mean they have to readvertise and start again ??
  3. Tomorrow I am going to make time to go and look at the Barth Bridge in Dentdale end of the proposed TRO as that's where the issues will be you can drive a car up the track to the fell gate which is what a lot of dog walkers do so will be interesting to see what is signed !! This is just the issue that is happening in the Lakes with the Bobblies who drive up part of Garburn Pass and Walna Scar to park, now both are Restricted Byways / Bridleways so they are being illegal !!!!! The issue may well be passed to the Police to enforce the parking and byway contraventions, hows about a load of Bobblies with section 59 ? notices !!!!
  4. Bend has got to be stronger for most, unfair though as I can get most things bent for free as we have a 40 tonne Krupp bender at our manufacturing set up a superb piece of kit but a bit too big for my garage !!!
  5. Yes the YDNP seem to be going their own way led by the prats on the Access Committee, there is a lot of disquiet in the Western side of the Park anyway about lots of issues but little we can do as they are in general totally unelected. I have been today to have a look at one end of the nearest UCR to be TRO'd there are absolutely no signs saying anything is being done at all now that must contravene the regs as although they have published in the paper surely there should be public notices of their intentions posted at the start and finish of the lane ? I have objected to the TRO on Mastiles lane as a matter of principle as although it was a mess when closed 4 years ago it has recovered well and a "managed" approach like the LDNP heirarchy would be totally applicable. The local lane is one I think that should be closed across the open fell as it is not suitable which is why no 4x4 have ever used it to my knowledge beyond the gate up from Dent. It will be interesting to see what they do about the local dog walkers who use the track from Dent regularly to access the moorland but will be totally illegal using it for parking !!!!
  6. The decisions on this are made by the Access Forum Committee with it seems a delegated authroity on these TROs http://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/index/loo...ers_details.htm Chaired by Mr Bartholomew (he of YDGLA chair as well) members are also co opted onto the Committee which is how all the Bobblies have now got on. Malcolm Pettyt is Vice Chair of the Authority not the Access Forum who are making these decisions he is a paid up member of the Ramblers but is not too impressed by Mr Bartholomew's antics. I know Malcolm and would say he is a reasonable man unlike Mr B and his cronies. Geoff Wilson from LARA has resigned from the Committee in protest at the totally undemocratic way this TRO process has been pushed through, but YDNP have just ignored the protest. After many many years of Geoff working with the Park I find this totally unacceptable. The Dales National Parks Access Forum Committee is now controlled by an unelected bigoted minority who are pushing through their own agenda dictated by the Chair who is well known for his narrow minded approach. The problem is a lot of them do not live in the Park and come from outside with their own agendas but we cannot remove them by a vote they stay for a term by which time the damage will be done !
  7. Unfortunately, the Dales will rapidly become a no go area, the Access Committee is totally dominated by Bobblies mostly resident outside the Park led by Mr Bartholomew who is now chair of the Committee, all the TRO's were passed on the nod by the Committee and ignored totally the National Park Officers recommendations. The Government have in NERC and this stupid bit of legislation now allowed totally biased, unelected people to carry out their own agendas with regard to these closures. Have a look at the YDGLA web site if you don't be;lieve me ! There is a hit list of some 20 odd lanes they area "monitoring" a load of complete rubbish as they are the next to be closed and they then will progess through all the 100 lanes in the Dales closing them all. God help us if the latest Government proposal to extend this Park West is allowed to happen as they will then close a load of really good little used lanes.
  8. Just gone through this pain, I bought a 90 tdi "project" complete with new galvy chassis etc, I live in Cumbria, "project" was in Scarborough. I do have a 14ft Ifor Williams trailer, but we had to make two trips to get the lot back, we had envisaged strapping the chassis to the side of the 90 to bring it back, but in reality there was no way it would be safe. Mr Plod would I belive have had a field day, so it was one trip to collect the vehicle then back the next day for the chassis in all 350 miles ! Like everyone is saying it may be cheapest to take the delivery option or hire a trailer, shop around as they do come quite cheaply, a lot of Ifor dealers hire and I got a rate down to under £50.00 for the day when looking to get a 90 back from Liverpool for someone.
  9. Have a word with Mark at Sowden tyres he has some real good deals ! http://www.sowdentyres.co.uk/
  10. When I did mine, I just unbolted the seal carrier and the seal easily came out and just hung off the swivel while I checked the preload. twas a little messy as all the one shot made a bid for escape ! Pre load without the seal according to my book is 3.6 - 4.5 kg (8 -10 lbs in proper measurement) Best of luck but if it's floppy that's the same problem as I had !
  11. Scary, reminds me of when we were the WSM Contractor at Catterick, all our subbies were instructed not to leave tool boxes in the back of vehicles without leaving them open for scrutiny. We had a persistent guy who would not comply, he was warned on a number of occasions, but MOD Plod got peed off in the end so a little excercise for the Bomb Squad ensued, big bang, Mondeo Estate ended up minus it's back door !!!!! We were highly amused, Subbie very Mildly miffed off, Insurance Company just laughed, needless to say we dispensed with that Companies Services and all the other guys made sure tool boxes were easilt seen into !!! But non compliance with Plod instructions no recompense !! Try explaining that to the boss !
  12. I know where there is one but it's way up in Northumberland farmer mate is breaking an old Commercial gradually, last time I looked it was still there.
  13. I have one of these works really well http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;jsession...mp;x=10&y=2 you can get a very similar one from Machine mart as well
  14. My thoughts as well, don't want him in any group I take round ! Unlike the D3 owners I have met in the past, including my stepbrother all have been really nice and the machine is just well impressive, but if it depreciates at £20.00 a day on top of the servicing etc at a main stealer it's not for me. I will stick with my non depreciating (cos it's hit the bottom long ago) Classic RR thanks and I would bet it's progress against most other vehicles.
  15. The link is attached, the issue is seen to be very minor by some but could have quite an issue locally, but some of the comments are beyond belief really http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic20979.html We don't need to start th ediatribe on here, it's just the comment on ownership that is quite honestly childish in the extreme !
  16. Love them all, but I will keep to my Nissan engined Classic cos I can fix it and there is no way I am lining the Main Stealers pockets for servicing a D3 or a L322 ! But they are like all LRs awsome machines when used for what they can do, shame is only about 1% seem to realise what they can do and I applaud all who do use them as they can be. But if you want to be snobby about new LRs have a look at some of the threads running about the D3 jaunt to the lakes and the Old Coach Road, I am gobsmacked with some of the comments there about real ale drinking, beardy, Classic owners. Yepp Iam all three
  17. Doh Haynes get it wrong again, definitely need ATF in there, don't know what wrong oil will do but not any good i fear. Get it changed pronto me thinks. One of many mistakes I think I am still finding LT95s with EP80/90 in them when they take engine oil only !!! So far I have bought 3 all filled with wrong oil, so all have a duff oil pump and knackered bearings !!
  18. That link works fine for me that's where I got my manual from just tried it again and it worked for me !
  19. Sounds very smelly to me, that's something I have done a few times on my 110 and so far no issues but then it has got that agricultural old Santana gearbox. But why oh why don't LR follow the JEEP example and not allow the starter to function unless the clutch is down, very simple but incredibly effective, stops the lurch forward with a mistake. Coat, hat gone !!
  20. Before you part with the hard earned just check that the viscous is not seized, take two big bars with you, jam one across the prop bolts on one end and try and turn the other end with t'other bar, you should be able to move it with some difficulty. If it won't move it's seized if it moves easily it's knackered ! Why do I say this ? Have bought two untried one was alright t'other seized well. Ashcrofts want £250.00 for a new viscous unit alone ! You live and learn ! Might add the two boxes were a bargain anyway so not too fussed that one needs parts !
  21. It has absolutely nothing to do with Tourists Mr Bartholomew and his cronies from YDGLA have a declared intention of "removing this menace from the Dales" it is on their web site. They have been allowed by us not being proactive to get contraol of the Access Committee so unfortunately this is only the start !!! The Dales will become a no go area and he is now setting his sights on the Lake District as he turned up at the meeting there a month or so ago. We must ensure we support and get members on the Access Commitee in all the nearby National Parks urgently, I for 1 am going to try and get on somehow I live in the Dales unfortunately but we need concerted action NOW.
  22. Only problem to me is that LR charge way too much now ! Local garage has a mint 07 plate Santana with 9000 miles on the clock for..................£8995 plus Gordon (sorry Alistair's) bit works out a huge difference to buying a 110 ! Also it comes with a much better engine in my view, but it's the old model now Iveco are producing the Massif. I will stay with my olduns thanks much more maneageable and you don't have to get the main stealer to fix it ! I also have just bought a JEEP Patriot !!!!!! Does the same as a Freelander for me with a nice big wedge still left in my back pocket, I am getting 45mpg out of it as well which is a lot more than others have told me the Freebie 2 does.
  23. This guy really enjoys his !! Tarn hows Lane in the lakes and there is a b***** big rock right under the spare wheel !!
  24. I have one of those and it has worked well on a couple of gearbox changes, makes the whole thing much more stable. I have always taken the gearlevers off before attempting removal as it's a PITA to get it out otherwise even with ramps etc. I am just about to change defunct gearbox in daughters RR so have made the bracket to take the BW transfer off as it's again easier to take the box off in two chunks in my opinion. But you jack mod sounds very feasible to me and should be up to the job I think.
