  1. If you want to do Gatescarth remeber you need permits and only RR, Disco and 90 can use it anything over 100 inch wheel base is banned. Try Breasthigh East to West an interesting ascent over the rocks. Then the ford at Winton is a must ! I would keep out of the LDNP as much as possible due to mass Bobblies, but Mud Club was very prominent in repairing the road up from the visitor Centre in Grizedale so that's a must.
  2. Can you ask them if they have a centre steer Series One lost in their yard as well please
  3. Have just spent the weekend driving legal lanes and UCR in Cumbria but all outside the Lake District National Park. I am a GLASS member as well and researched the lanes we used, initially using Wayfinder and the Cumbria CC site before having a look at the Definitive map. But we did two whole days driving and saw absolutely no other users, no other drivers or trail bikes, no Bobblies, no Mountain Bikers and no horse riders. Included in the routes were The Highway, Breasthigh Road (just as good as any in the LDNP) and Hartside pass recently highlighted in LRO. Where was everyone then ? The weather was great, nice and sunny, we reckon there were in excess of 150 motorcycles at the Cafe on Hartside but only us Green laning most strange. All the routes were in excellent condition and some looked like no one had been through for ages. My only surmise is that everyone was in the LDNP upsetting the Bobblies again
  4. Get the Irwin bolt grip set of removers from Screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;jsession...mp;x=8&y=10 These work on most things but are only 3/8th drive so go easy on them but they grip really well and with the help of a bit of heat to loosen the loctite seem to get most out.
  5. Just replaced the one in daughters RR, cut the floor out both sides and it will slide in, bolted the mounts down adjusted the body up a bit and fixed some angle strips back inside the boot area to the x member and the body, then the same to the outer panels, but you do need the wings off. I have some piccies on here. http://www.lrboards.com/weblog.php?w=11 I am now about to replace most of the boot floor as it's all rotten and I am not doing it again
  6. But surely if all the predictions are right sea level will have risen by 3 metres and you won't be able to drive anywhere by then !!!!!! Best thing that could happen is that all of London disappears as far as I am concerned preferably floated out into mid Atlantic and all sunk there, red Ken, Bliars lot etc would be the best thing for all of us !
  7. Obviously stored as the wheels appear off ground on axle stands, but bet the cills have gone as it's been there a long time with the green algae all over it !!! Wheel carrier looks interesting though.
  8. Got a straight screen frame up her in Cumbria, sat in the cellar so could be nice and cheap.
  9. 100% better, got loads of torque low down for one, no elecktrickery for another, they don't lose the oil pump bolts ! seem totally bullet proof. Want any more ?
  10. Had the same problem with my 110, if the cv joint pulls off there should be a thread in the end of the remaining shaft. find a suitable bolt to thread in and get hold of a slide hammer attach to bolt and bash it out. I found the cv pulled off before the shaft let go from the diff and the bolt in the end did the trick. Otherwise as previously said it's a long pole in from the other side but not easy to make sure you are in the right palce before bashing away. Best of luck.
  11. Got a bog standard one in the 110 and well pleased with it, came out of daughters very rotten Trooper when gearbox fell out ! Not as sweet sounding as the V8 but when I can easily get 35mpg it's a huge bonus. Very interested in what can be achieved with simple tuning as could do with abit more go when towing.
  12. Got two vehicles insured with Flux on limited mileage have always found them helpful and always competitive, especially once you have any modifications. Have insured all sorts of very silly vehicles with them 50s Ford Pop with 3.5 Rover V8 etc, 1760cc Ford Anglia, etc and now Isuzu powered lifted 110 and Series One with Montego Diesel. Like you have another vehicle for day to day high mileage insured via mainstream broker but haven't investigated this Admiral scheme yet, but I bet they will not insure multiple drivers as they only will want you using one vehicle at a time.
  13. Ho Ho what was he driving then made by the same Company as the much vaunted Prickus then !!!! It's all been said by others a Gas guzzler is whatever Gordon thinks he can extract Tax from under the pretext of being green by taxing it.
  14. No doubt but some of the other lanes around here, I live in Sedbergh just outside the LDNP but in the YDNP, are just too far for visitors to the Lakes to be bothered with. One of the problems is Commercial use by Off Road Trail Companies using these routes and doing sweet FA about the damage they cause leaving it to the TRF, Glass and Crag boys to clear up the damage. There was a working party on this route earlier this year I believe. It is unfortunate that it is going to be even more restricted but the Lakes have the same problem with 4x4 and Off road bikes as they do with Bobblies, too many people and overuse. Geoof Wilson from LARA/TRF is very active in trying to preserve these routes and should be applauded for what he achieves but we are in the minority of users in the Lakes as we are in the Dales with a very vociforous anti campaign against us.
  15. Best advise is to keep out of the LDNP as they have no money for any repairs they are spending all they have on the non existent damage caused by the hoards of Bobblies who descend on the area when the sun shines. They are like flies and all congregate around the most popular areas and cause a hell of a lot of damage with their stupid pole things. As a local I don't go anywhere in the Park area now there are good routes outside the restrictions of the LDNP and YDNP and away from the Bobblies. If you fancy Gatescarth try Breasthigh instead especially after lots of rain cos the Fords good. I know Gatescarth is a classic high level route but we are losing the battle for the National Parks in my opinion due to the muppets in our midst so best keep out and make sure we don't lose the less obvious areas.
  16. It's another do gooder trying his own thing. This would be absolutely horrendous and covers evrything thats used off road, can you see the F1 boys all have registration plates ????? It's another f*****ing useless bit of cods from this stupid. stupid Government the sooner we get rid of Bliar and his cronies the better, problem is that there isn't anyone involved in politics who has a modicum of sense anyway !!!!
  17. Just a thought have a look on www.bba-reman.com these guys rebuild ABS units and have a good diagnostics and problems page for LR and lots of others in the web site.
  18. Bought a complete 110 axle the othere week with virtually new discs and pads for £50.00 had to help take it off but for £250.00 I would want a virtually new one with a guarantee ! My mate will be breaking and early tdi fairly soon and I am sure he will sell the axle for a lot less than £250.00.
  19. Looks just like mine but I have a Santana box from my V8 and yes I have the hole as well. I have just plated over it. Wouldn't have though drilling and tapping new holes would have much affect on strength.
  20. According to info I have which may of course be well out of date there are rear progressive springs for RR part nrs (NTC3285) 435 long green / pink progressive 120 -180 lbs, and passenger side (NRC 8113) 418 long pink / purple 120 - 180 lbs progressive. According to same data your Disco springs are 431 long 170 lbs Might help ?
  21. If you'r MOT man is right then every Series One on the road is illegal, mine has never had hazard flashers and never will have ! The earlier ones have semaphore indicators at best, can't see how you can make them into hazards but it would be very funny if they all came up and went down together !!! The mans talking b*****ks so go get him !
  22. Absolutely nothing here on the edge of the Lake District, I'll just have to fire up the 110 and go looking up Breasthigh road !! Forecast for a sprinkling this afternoon. Seems there's the normal absolute chaos, why can't Brits drive on snow ? My brother lives in Norway and they just get on with it over there, theres no chaos. Mind you they can generally drive much better than we canon the snow, ever seen a Mum in Britain driving kids to school opposite locking the Volvo round every corner !!
  23. Had exactly the same sort of hole in daughters RR, I bought two sill panels inners and outers from Paddocks, they extend well under the seat to a join about halfway under the seat. Earlier seats and bases unbolt I believe, I had to carefully cut away the seat base to slide the panel under, then stitch weld it to the propshaft tunnel panel and re weld the seat base in. It was an interesting job when you also have to cut away and refix the B post. If yours are like mine further investigation with a pointed implement may well find the inner sill has gone as well.
  24. My mate has these on his 200 tdi Disco, no problems and seemed to wear quite well until the gearbox went. Stripped output shaft, but we,ve sourced an Mpi with a duff engine and are slowly uncovering the differences and getting on with swapping the engine and now main gearbox into it. It's an interesting project especially outside in the cold !
