  1. If going the polybush route cheapies are a waste of money, buy Superflex, expensive but they last, are guaranteed. But OEM will be best for most road use !
  2. I use one of these http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/...utomotive-tools but if the pistons are corroded it will probably bend, but it works for me
  3. Depends on the trailer capacity, some 4 wheelers are only 2 tonne which might be a bit inadequate, I have a 3.5 tonne Ifor Williams four wheeler that would carry it no bother and Defender can pull it easily
  4. Yes but,, you will have to have a Q plate as the chassis is not the correct type etc and will need an SVA perhaps !!! Have a look at this document, very clear that if a "secondhand chassis is used vehicle must have ESVA and a Q plate http://direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAnd...icle/DG_4022486 They are getting very hot on this and asking MOT testers to confirm chassis nrs, not from the VIN plate
  5. I personally would cast about for another Series One engine, there are quite a lot about, I have two lying in my shed for example one's a diesel. Preserving the originality of an 80 inch would be good, I went the Prima route with my 86 inch which was an ex trialler so quite unoriginal to start with, but it was a lot of work as well as costly with the adaptor plate etc. The Series 2 route would be the easiest as you can easily adapt the clutch etc, but the engine is longer as every one is pointing out.
  6. You can get about 2 inches of lift with stdd Heavy duty (Police spec) springs, greens on front and red / white on the back, gives a decent ride without any hassles with propshafts etc.
  7. Well done forgot to say daughters was a tdi so the exhaust wasn't an issue as it had been off very recently !!
  8. Went to local LR dealer 6 months ago to look at a Freebie 2 to replace my PT Cruiser road car, most off hand young salesman basically told me go sell your PT before we will look at a deal. No discount on a Freebie cos we can sell all we get. So went to the Jeep dealer got a good part exchange, a discount and now have a Jeep Patriot, and saving a fortune on fuel compared with a Freebie and £5k on the price. VW reliability as an added bonus with the mechanics as well !!!! The LR dealer has a huge stock of new stuff now and no one in the showroom I for one will not be back !!
  9. Why not stick an overdrive on the back of it ? I run an LT95 with a Fairey overdrive in my Rangie it works fine just happen to have a spare overdrive if interested, was fine when last used, present gearbox came with overdrive attached.
  10. The hinge fixings are totally different on the exposed compared with the hidden ones, sorry, I have an exposed hinge door rotting merrily and a complete set of good hidden hinge doors but, they won't fit without a lot of work !
  11. MM will do you a rebuilt 3 bolt, I have just put one on my 110, works fine no problems at all £120.00 but there is a £75.00 surcharge until you return the old un.
  12. Dr T knows where I am as we are often out together be it the Lakes, Dales or the Pennines, there are lots to get at round here !!
  13. Took me about 2 hrs to change the viscous on daughters RR including rebuilding the knackered propshaft, the seized viscous took out both prop joints !! Interesting bit was getting the gearbox mount off, otherwise very straightforward, make sure you have a decent jack to hold it all up whilst you remove the mount.
  14. Well I think a Freebie doing 40 mpg is not very likely, you might get a td4 to gewt somewhere near, but a Freebie 2 forget it, lucky to get 30mpg according to my conversations with people with them, that's why I bought the Jeep Patriot cos that does what it says and gets well over 40 mpg all the time !! I have been helping a neighbour convert an Mpi to tdi and it has been a pig of a job, changing engine and box then the wiring nightmare !!! Then I had a look at the boot floor mmmmmmmmm just say stalled project for the moment !!!! An Isuzu would drop in no bother but all the conversion plates etc are for the normal LT77 boxes not the mpi so I think a change would be required unless you could make up a very funny spigot bearing !! I get an easy 35mpg out of the Isuzu in my 110 so 40 mpg may be feasible with a light right foot !!
  15. Tubed Wolfs are flat across the tyre mounting area/ rim the tubeless ones have a recess/dimple in that area for holding the tyre on, also the tyre valve hole is larger for a tubeless valve. Obvious question is are there tubes in your tyres now ? The valve stem is much smaller usually for tubes and hasn't got any flange rubber around the hole. I run tubed Wolfs but the tyres are tubeless with tubes in, you need decent tubes (Michelin) and make sure that there are no labels or anything inside the tyers before fitting. Some of the big national tyre places probably will refuse to fit tubes in tubeless tyres for HSE reasons. I have never had any issues myself but the tubes can fret inside the tyre casing hence use thick decent tubes.
  16. My 110 was insured with Adrian Flux for use with 11 seats, with a rider that it was not to be used for Commercial useage. Since then I have reduced to 7 seats and have no issues, still with Flux.
  17. Got all my bits from C & P all went in very well, the Isuzu makes a great conversion, be wary of the special exhaust downpipe mine was useless and I bought one from Steve Parker's that also didn't fit, mine is an ex V8 with a Santana box and I think the down pipes that are sold are either for Rangies or for LT77 gearboxes.
  18. Have a look on the Conversion and Precision site, they do a kit of bits to put the engine in. Daughter has a Rangie with that engine works fine uses a conversion plate onto standard LR gearbox. seems on a 110 you have to mod the passenger footwell. http://www.engineconversions.co.uk/fitting_dai.html
  19. Good conversion did mine about 4 years ago, Conversion and Precision do the kit from originally Milners patterns, they can supply everything, only tricky bit seems to be to get the exhaust right. Wiring is relatively straight forward and you use the isuzu power steering pump modded to fit LR steering box. In my 110 i get excellent fuel consumption, plenty of grunt and it really is bullet proof with none of the tdi issues of head gaskets etc etc. Burgins in Wales have customers with over 250k on these engines and still bring new ones in to re engine the nasty 3.0 Isuzu's which had a propensity to self explode.
  20. Been running an Isuzu in my 110 for three years now, 100% bullet proof with stupendous fuel consumption, 35 mpg normal use with around 25mpg with big ifor and a load on. Runs up and down the M6 at a steady 70 over Shap no bother. So far only issues have been the exhaust, bought a "special" system from the man in Rochdale didn't fit, !! I think his was for a normal one with LT77 box or for a RR ? I have a Santana gearbox which may have made a difference but a good cut and shut has sorted it and it is all working well. One thing the Japs can make is good diesels I have a collection in various LR products.
  21. I have always been told splined bit to gearbox whatever the box.
  22. Right Mr B take this Quote From: Alan Kind [mailto:laragb@mac.com] Sent: 01 July 2008 16:52 To: Davis Ian; Beardmore Peter; King Alan; Green Don; Kempster Tony; Green Duncan; Stevens Tim; Tilbury Dave; Gerrard Andy; Waterer Tom; Wilson Geoff; Hodder Chris; Troughear Bill; Freak Keith; Morriss Charlie; Giles Dave Cc: Brocklehurst Andrew; Monk Stuart; Loney Dave Subject: YDNPA TROs - the challenge is made Tuesday 16:45 Gents, The solicitor has confirmed that the papers for the application to the High Court have today been lodged with the court, and postal-served on YDNPA and NYCC. I may need to back this up with an additional hand delivery tomorrow. The matter is therefore 'official' and potentially in the public domain, but I would be very careful about how the case is represented on websites, or to the media. Factual statements are OK. We have to 'go public' to a degree for the LARA Fighting Fund. We can now activate a new donations page. I have M/C photos, but no 4x4 photos as yet. I will pen a 'typical statement' about the challenge and circulate tonight or tomorrow, trips to Yorkshire permitting. Regards ADK from: Alan Kind Motor Sport & Planning Officer LARA e-mail: laragb@mac.com Alan Kind is at this moment trying to put the necessary paper work together – and still has NO 4 x 4 photos Can you help? His e mail address is above and the LARA phone No is 0191 263 4086 All contibutions to the LARA fighting fund please, very important now we have to stop this lot now.
  23. From my experience with some of Colin's lovely springs, the shorter ones have sagged !!!!!!!!! But like everyone has said I reckon longer ones on the back I have some for mine again bought secondhand (not Scarpiron though) and that's how they are marked. Added to which I got 4 Procomp shocks as well for not a lot more than your spring price !!
  24. Thanks for the info jen, have now passed all of the info over to the GLASS legal guys and to the TRF guys locally as my contact there is well known for his knowledge of these issues. No doubt by now Geoff Wilson from LARA will have them as well , now he resigned from the Committee in protest at the undemocratic way the first lot were imposed and passed on the nod with no debate, so he might be very interested in failure to adhere to the YDNP published procedure !
  25. Well they haven't placed any notices anywhere on these roads and the Public Consultation period has now expired, I have voiced my complaint to the trails guy, but I also know the Vice Chair of the Authroity quite well so will be informing him of the disquiet at the way his delegated team appear to be operating. Might be a case for an Ombudsman being consulted ??
