  1. What about the viscous in the transfer seizing, can you jack a front wheel up and turn it with difficulty ? If you can it's OK if you cannot move it, viscous is seized, then it starts to take out all the weak points in the front axle, cvs, prop joints etc. Daughters did this took out front halfshaft by twisting it round in the cv, prop joint as well, reason is the front axle is forcing the viscous unit round, not the other way round !
  2. According to my book of words ratio is 1.206:1 high and 3.244:1 in low. LT230s for RR 15D is 1.192 and 28D is 1.222 so all pretty near 1.2
  3. The arms are not interchangeable as the fixing to the motor spindles is a different fixing, but I have changed the motor and wiper arm assembly over to the later type it's a PITA job disassembling the decker panel etc etc hence my easy option of out with the welder ! My 82 Rangie though now has the later type of motor and wiper arms so it can be done in my opinion but not sure what year the assembly came from.
  4. Had this problem with daughters rebuild, so I bodged it up by cutting the pin type ends off and substituting the bent end of an old pair, quick weld and jobs a goodun. Allows you to use the much easier found hooky type wipers !
  5. Carbuildersolutions Kit car suppliers do them individually or in a kit. Good catalogue to download anyway http://www.nfauto.co.uk/
  6. Could try Briercliffe nr Burnley just off M65 or Cowm quarry A671 at Whitworth nr Rochdale or Tong just by Leeds/Bradford all do Play days.
  7. Depends on how much it is leaking I have used Luca Oils Power Steering Stop leak very successfully on a slight leak, worth a try as they guarentee it will fix it or your money back ! http://www.lucasoil.co.uk/products.php?pag...&product=16
  8. Could find you some lanes from Northumberland across to Lakes if you want, also you don't need to go into the Lakes as there are plenty of lanes that are nice and interesting between the Peninnes and the M6 as well. Look on the thread of the lakes visit in late 2007 cos they did quite afew across from me outsid ethe LDNP.
  9. I agree with everyone else Ifor Williams is the only one, I have a 3.5 tonne 16ft four wheeler, carries everything I want and tows superbly, spares are easily got with a good knowledgeable dealer network. My farmer mate swears by them he has three in total a plant trailer, a 14ft flat and a stock trailer. If you get one insure it as well as locking it up securely, it's not expensive and will soften the blow if someone nicks it !
  10. I don't personally have any gripe with LRevents except the damage the numpties in his group did to my mates field, the organiser did get a bill for the repairs as we found out who it was who "organised" the event. The ones I do complain about are those that are destroying others pleasure by totally ignoring the recomendations of CRAG, GLASS, TRF etc. The best way to go laning in my opinion is to team up with members of a Forum like this who had a superb weekend up in Cumbria where they were able to find routes that the Commecial boys do not find. They won't charge you for joining in and you will gain plenty of good friends for future.
  11. A lot of the route they will do is in TOR this month coud save yourself a lot of dosh by going with others from here. This lot caused a deal of issues in the Tyne valley with one of their groups when they used a farmer mates field to turn round when they found a tree down across the road. Trouble was the field was part of a Countryside stewardship scheme so said farmer would lose all the subsidy due to the damage they caused known as lets put the clog down and do some donuts !!! Personally I find the Commercial users a pain in the bum as they constantly cause issues which backlash on all the other users. But, if you want to pay the money that's up to you
  12. Really not a lot, a mate has just bought a complete one with all the bits to restore it for £500.00, it's a very difficult thing to value without pics or seeing it. Just because it's old doesn't necessarily mean it is worth a lot. These are bought on the condition of chassis, bulkhead and running gear. To rebuild the engine is not cheap, see the articles in LRW on that score. I have just sold mine with full years MOT for £1500.00 but it is not original by any means but is a reasonable runner with a heap of spares.
  13. I would talk with Ashcrofts they unfortunately don't rebuild LT95s so I have to look elsewhere, but have just been offered a box at a price I can't refuse and it is supposedly all good, then my garage man has offered me a whole Rangie with a good gearbox for free ! It's must be Christmas
  14. Sounds like someone else has bought a lemon gearbox, i got a reputed all good LT95 as a spare for mine in the RR, suffice to say the layshaft bearings were noisy so I spent an age changing the box. Tried it out at the weekend laning and it's absolutely useless, mine jumps out of first, second and thrird on the overrun and having worked it hard the low ratio sounds like a cement mixer. So I am off to get another from somewhere. Best of luck but may be better to bite the bullet and get a recon from Ashcroft at least you have a guarantee !
  15. One of the best oils I have ever used, I have used Millers XFE in everything diesel I have had for a long time, holds pressure well and has norrmally given me better mpg as well. Can't endorse it any higher, I get it from my local parts place but you can buy it on line from them. I have just bought some very expensive semi synthetic PD spec oils for my Patrol engined RR as that is what it says to put in it, had it out laning and had no pressure drop on ity all all day unlike some other stuff that was in it from a well known oil company !!!
  16. In a simple answer, the Lakes are special in that the LDNP have been very proactive with clasification and dealing with the issues of 4x4 and trail bike useage of what are some very excellent lanes. As this is in an area used by huge numbers of Bobblies it has to be applauded, they have a very active and balanced access commitee who advise, with users from all sides so I feel very positive about it but try to ensure that the guidelines are kept to by everyone and I think the Commercial users should also abide by the guidelines. The group from this forum had a great time on an awful weekend very recently with clear information on where and in what direction you are expected to go. In other areas of the country the info is either not available or kept hidden and that is a big issue.
  17. Should be aluminium strips to hold the fixed glass to the frame, maybe a strip to go in the channel, somewhere I might have a set of those.
  18. That's just my point, comes out with a load of green stuff and states he will train and advise to "protect these historic trails for future generations" and then goes totally against an agreed procedure. He certainly had not advised the client we came across !!!! Any way, we have identified quite a lot of maintenance needed so there will no doubt be a working party organised in the New Year and all volunteers are very welcome, but don't expect to see a Kankku LR in the car park, he will probably drive past during the day !!!!!
  19. It was superb to watch it in action the only criticism was in rock crawl mode it did just that crawled ! But I hand it to the owner to take what is a £30,000.00 vehicle on a green lane trip scratches and all, even though it had 100k on the clock. Here's a few more
  20. Can I add my "consultancy fee" ? The man is a menace as far as I am concerned and we need to publicise the fact as far as we can !
  21. The LDNP can impose a TRO as they are now responsible for all routes in the National Park under NERC powers just imposed. Unfortunately Dave Robinson who was very willing to work with the 4x4 and Trail Bike fraternity has been moved in the structure of new Chief Exec they are well aware of this man as he makes a big thing of flouting things he doesn't agree with like the speed limit on Windermere. The problem is they will impose a TRO and it won't be a selective one just a closure ! Geoff Wilson from LARA/TRF is on the access Commitee so we have a voice at present but his antics have to stop or we rea lost I am afraid as the Bobblies up here are very organised something to do with the Chairperson having a house up here I think !!!
  22. Just had a great response on another Forum, "request a TRO" now that sounds stupid at first but you can have a selective TRO as well as a vehicle ban, that's how the LDNP control Gatescarth under a TRO rule. What could be requested is a TRO stating usage is only legal West - East so if Kankku come the other way it's illegal, Mr Plod gets involved he is fined and the legality of his LR Taxi service can be investigated MMMMMMMMMM that sounds quite good really. For thos e who don't know you can avail yourself of this mans service, a taxi ride £200.00 or atag along service £89.00 or you can go to the LDNP web site and find out how you are supposed to go and where is legal all for FREE
  23. Just done a few of the lanes on Sunday absolutely superb as usual. Best bit we had some members from the Discovery owners club tagged on and this guy was fantastic. Absolutely bog stock D3, those who don't know this is on a lane known as Knipe Scar, only downside Kankku. See my post about Commercial users.
  24. Just had a stonking weekend doing some of the lanes the guys from here did on their recent weekend, luckily for us it only rained on Saturday and we went on Sunday. But there we are admiring the prowess of a bog stock Disco D3 on the Grizedale - Esthwaite lane going West - East as required by the Heirarchy of Trails and we cama across a silver 07 reg 90 going East - West. We stopped and told the guy to turn round and go the correct way. His response was "we went this way with Kankku the other week and he recommended we do it this way" I lost the plot for which I apologise. We spent a day repairing this route way back in April with the Liverpool LR Club, TRF, GLASS et al, Dave Robinson the then Trails Advisor was with us, we had a great day and had good publicity from a superb job done. Whilst doing the job Kankku appeared going East - West with his expensively paying guests, he was well harangued, Dave Robinson had a go about correct routing, Geoff Wilson form Lara (on the Access Commitee) had a go. But here we are way down the line and this guy still ignores what is in affect a rule to follow. In his publicity blurb he says he will train and advise for "helping to preserve and protect historic trails for future generations" I am still gobsmacked at his total lack of awareness of the dodgy ground he is on for his business and our future use of these lanes. Recently the LDNP had a change of Chief Exec, the new man has come from English Nature and has stated he has a "Green Agenda" for the LDNP, Dave Robinson has moved to a new job I gather in the subsequent changes. So we now have a situation where the Bobblies will be complaining with photographic evidence of Kankku ignoring the recommendations of the Heirarchy of Trails. The response I expect soon is using the new powers under NERC is a TRO on this lane followed probably by the rest. Who is going to lose out ? Kankku lose all their business and we have lost a superb area for good technical lanes due totally to this idiot ! The problem is how can we control this business and all the others who are ignoring good sense and the recommended approach to laning ? I have posted this on a number of Forums as I am totally incensed with this total stupidity, I think the magazines should join forces now and name and shame those who will not conform, be it Commercial or otherwise.
  25. Don't know about the South but you will travel through the Picos theres some real good routes there, spent a week in Potes and did quite a few, especially like the one at Fuenta De up to the top of the cable car !
