  1. In which case, buy a 90 - end of story! I'm afraid you'll find very few garages these days that properly know how to look after a series, and even fewer who'll be prepared to fit aftermarket upgrades to it!

    Whats your intended use?

  2. Oooooooooooh you didnt wanna do it like that..........you wanted to make it pink and fluffy!!!

Have to say, as ever, very nice Paul!!

Out of interest are you still getting the problems with limescale in your washer tank?

    Cheers

  3. Sell it an buy a 90 - its the easiest, most cost effective method!

Otherwise, its hard to say without knowing what you intend to use it for! Daily driver or off road play thing......etc........

I'd say there are lots - comfy seats, a heater that works, power steering, disk brakes, 5 speed gearbox the list is endless...........

Plus what sort of mechanical prowess do you have? Can you weld? Can you fabricate? Can you precision machine parts???

  4. Cos they're prcing you the defender one with a new intercooler aswell!

I've had this before and thought it strange! They are available seperately and are not a vastly different price to the disco ones. Suggest trying a different supplier. I know keith gott keeps the defender ones on the shelf and they're that sort of money casue I got one for a amte of mine recently who'd been being quoted 300 odd quid for a new rad!

  5. With that mileage on it I'd be looking more seriously at what sort of condition the bottom end bearings are in - no-one seems to have mentioned them yet! Chances are all the mains and big ends will be through to the backing. (they certainly were on mine).

Whilst you're at it a replacement set of standard sized shells (assuming its not been re-ground) would be well worthwhile.

  6. Another bonus of the upgrade is that if your alt is "old school" 13.8v the Mondeo ones kick out 14.3v giving you 3.6% brighter headlights

So does that mean I can have 3.6% more mud on mine before they get any dimmer then???

    Result!!!!

  7. Yeah - Tonk and I developed it a couple of years ago. Quite frankly I would have to say dont bother. We both agree that upon reflection it would have been far easier to have simply fitted the LT230 and converted it to part time 4wd.

The other advantage there is of course is that it means that every time you break it you dont have to make new bits you can just buy them (and yes I have blown it up once already!).

Notwithstanding the amount of machining involved, there are a number of parts to collect from various sources/vehicles, some of which are hard to find, you get all sorts of headaches trying to work out what will and wont fit to what, and there's an amazing number of other smaller parts that need modding to suit.

  8. Richard,

Try doing the screw up tight enough!!! You want it Nigel Barker tight, not Darthdicky finger tight!!!

Funnily enough I had exactly this problem when i had the 2.5 lump in my series. The points were forever closing up! The be all and end all fix it would be to get down the scrap yard and obtain the various bits of electronic ignition from a Maestro, and they can be made to fit the landrover dizzy giving you electronic ignition and doing away with the points entirely.

I found a page on the web somewhere detailing exactly how to do it somwhere........I'll see if i can find it!

  9. No - demister is not checked on the mot.

Stering slack - for a vhicle with a steering box not more than 75mm movement of the rim of the steering wheel without the roadwheels moving.

Bleeding the PAS will make little difference to play in the steering. However you should check for play with the engine running as the PAS does take up a little slack. Probably just wants the box adjusting up a tad.

Check its not a duff ball joint or play in the lower column u/js etc.

  10. Hmmmmmm thanks Chaps!

Daan - like yours, but my rear winch literally touches the bottom of my rear floor so the only way I could do this is by laying them on top of the existing floor. I've have to shorten them too much then to get them in and the rear door shut, plus I'd have to take em out every time I wanted to get to the rear winch!

Mounting them externally down the body sides had crossed my mind, but as I dont have an external rear cage I'm just concerned they'd get ripped off!
