  1. I beleive there is a different bearing from somewhere within the dpeths of a series 2 gearbox that is the perfect size to allow this without the need for bearing spacers.

    No idea of the part numbers, but speak to Richard at Keith Gott's as he usually keeps these in for this very purpose!

    Otherwise the only option is to cut down the adjuster rings, but make sure that the screws that hold the air fitting thingy on dont bottom out!

  2. A quick question for those with hard topped trucks - what do you do with your waffles?

    The way those with truck cabs mount them accross the back is all very well when you dont have a rear door to open, but I'm struggling to find anywhere sensable to mount them. I've thought about shoving them up on the roof, but am concerned that they'll just get ripped off.

    Also how do you physically clamp them down? I'm really after something that wont get jammed up with mud and doesnt have any small bits to get lost in the mud.

  3. Ditto. Thats what i was trying to say. Either stick with the parabolics if you must retain the series chassis. If not then build a hybrid on a range rover chassis retaining the series bodywork. Its alot less effort to weld series outriggers and bodymounts onto a rangie chassis then it is to try and weld coil mounts onto a series chassis, plus at least the rangie is designed to be that way so can cope with all the stresses and strains!

    Otherwise get onto designa chassis and buy one of their coiled series chassis.

    At least that way you get the option of things like power steering if you so desire.

    Its just not worth welding the mounts onto whats in places probably only tinfoil thick!

    Disk brakes are easy enough to do - either make your own or there are plenty of off the shelf kits these days!

  4. Why bother? Its loads of agro, and a PITA to get it all lined up right.

    If you really want coils, sell the series and buy a 90 - its just not worth the agro!

    Still dont get why you'd want to anyway - my series on parabolics with a few other simple tweaks has far more travel than many a modified coiler! Tonk's, which is very similar, beat all the coilers at the twist off at Beaulieu a couple of years back when he wont the twist off hands down!

  5. You've got rangie/disco PAS pipes dicky. On a 90 the PAS reservoir sits more or less directly above the steering box!

    I binned a complete set of pipes that would have fitted your motor when i moved recently! D'oh!

    Either pick up a set at sodbury that will fit, or as someone has suggested, its low pressure side, so cut off the existing rubber pipes, visit your local hydraulics suppliers and purchase some flexi hosing and make up to suit with jubille clips. I wouldnt bother extending what you've got personally!

  6. I was just thinking that - 265/75 is a non standard size so what pressures was he running them at?

    Report states the tyres showed clear signs of overheating - I was led to beleive that overheating was a classic symptom of incorrect tyre pressure.

    I can agree with the out of balance comments though - HFH had a set of 235/85 grizzlies on his hybrid that when spun up on the balancer one casued it to error as it was over 1kg out of balance!!!!

    Correct - I just checked the parts book and the drop arm for a gemmer box is a different part number than for a 4 bolt box. If you'd had the adwest manual box it would have swapped over.

    Well you know where it is if you want it. Probably wont be cheap to post though cause its pretty weighty!

  8. Why dont you phone up arb and ask them????

    Not easy to fit if you want to get it right - they need careful setting up etc to get the meshing correct. If you've never done one before I'd get someone else to fit it for you!

    Otherwise its just a matter of swapping diffs over really.

    I've got a 4 bolt defender type drop arm floating around my workshop that i fitted a new balljoint kit to before discovering it wouldnt fit to a 6 bolt box - d'oh!

    Yours for the cost of the balljoint kit if you want it - as I say its never been on the vehicle since the kit was fitted.

    That makes it a nuts a bolts job to fit to your truck!

  10. Been moving my gauge pods about on the dash on my series, and I'm now left with aload of sticky goo from where the double sided foam pads self destructed when I tried to remove them.

    The question now is what will get it off without eating the vinyl dash???

    I've tried white spirit, paraffin and acetone (well ok - I admit it - the missus' nail varnish remover) and none have shifted it! That was all i had floating around the garage but has anyone any other suggestions?

  11. hmmmmmmm well one of the tips people used to give with highly tuned (basically race) A series engines in mini miglias was to drill and tap the block to take 3 small cap had screws adjacent to the core plugs such that their heads overlappend and prevented the core plugs from popping out.

    Apparently its a well known problem!

  12. Regardless of anything, I'd have said something like Andy's moglite I'd have thought would have been a pretty good case for being registered as an agricultural implement.

    IIRC it is then immediately exempt from SVA, mot and road tax. You supposedly have to do less than 5 miles a week on the public highway (which is probably true in andy's case!) so i'd have thought it'd be perfect!

    I've no idea if this is what Andy has done - but it seems like a sensable thing to do to me!
