Right then, verdict seems to be along the lines of "should be ok".
Off now to order me some fresh parts to complete the build.
-
I am a little bit needy and seem to have lost my marbles in the want(read as "need" in my little head) to have OBA as well as fitting a compressor for airco but ideally want a 2nd alternator too.
Couple of questions before I start building things.
How effective is a "V" belt going to be at transferring crank power to all three components?
If the "V" belt can't handle all three, what are my options?
-
Is that a fuel pre-heater on that inner wing Mav?
-
The rear chassis crossmember was stopped a long time ago now, mind you, easy enough to replicate with 3mm plate with some crush tubes welded into it for the towbar bolts.
-
That would be perfect.
I have learned to never make any assumptions with Land Rover, usually lessons learned the hard way too

The tops of the front and rear spring cups please.
The front and rear air springs look to have a greater diameter than the coil springs, just wondering if I would need to either mod my chassis mounted spring cups or if the EAS equipped spring cups were available as a weld on replacement part???
-
I was pleased that the pics showed the mountings for the sensors on the trailing arms and the radius arm, only thing I can see different is that the foot mounting for the shock seems to be part of the panhard rod mounting on the axle and that the chassis mounted spring cups look wider???
Erm, sorry to trouble, but if you have a tape handy next time you're working on your car can you have a measure up please???

Me....... Upto anything............ Not much.............
If the Disco is on Dutch plates by the 1st November then it will be in the works to continue with the on board air system and using as many RRC air suspension parts to fit it out with full air ride.
I plan to use the OBA opposed to an electric compressor as I will need air for diff locks and airing up tyres so it makes sense to have good strong reliable air that will not burn out and need replacing if leaks develop.
Failing the Discovery getting Dutch plates (plan "B"
) we will be buying a Freelander and putting that on air suspension.

Cheers Dunc

For those with RRCs with EAS, if you have done any work on your air suspension and have pictures, can you post as many detailed photos of the air spring seats on the chassis and axles, front and rear and the front shock mountings please.
Hunting the web just takes me to useless sites looking to sell me stuff
Thanks in advance.

I had sliding windows fitted in a transit panel van years ago, they did all sorts of frames and something that looked very similar, worth a punt with specialist glazers for boats and commercial vehicles and the likes.
-
I'd say go for it, but what parts catalogues are you looking at?
I was looking at the disc brake set up from Haystee automotive here in the Netherlands, granted, it's pricey, but top notch gear designed and built for series axles.
-
Unless you want to be replacing it within the next 3-5yrs then waxoyl away, Rust Buster in Hertfordshire are a company I recommend, Nene Overland has jumped on the band wagn doing it too and as usual with them, they do a good job no matter what they seem to touch although you do pay for it mind!!! Stay away from Barry Chuckle over at Before'n'After, same price for less than half the quality of workmanship from a great many accounts.
-
What extras do you have above and beyond standard? Maybe we can narrow down what model or even if it were a special order vehicle ;-)
-
With Land Rover, anything is possible!!! Do remember that you could buy a base model and have any one of the premium ES features fitted as options, not sure if there would have been a completed build sheet for your car? worth finding out at Gaydon?
-
I had this insane brain wave of connecting seat squab to runners with small steel cable in all four corners and then suspending it using a cycle inner tube? primitive air suspension I suppose
Ok back to work after that brain fart

Think you should have bought a 109 as packaging constraints for two transfer cases inside the 88" wheel base with usable prop lengths for travel and articulation will be a major deciding factor.
Look on the Isuzu Trooper forums for help with gearbox lengths.

Had an early trooper that had one fitted, some argued they were better than the 3.1 but were they cobblers!!!
Almost a bullet proof engine that is IMHO better than any of the 2.5 n/a D or 2.5Tdi engines, really don't know which model out of the general motors stable had the Isuzu 3.1 engine in but they are worth a look too.
-
can there be a typo in the price of the second item linked? I had a double cardan front prop custom made for £590 there must be a mistake in the asking price of £1595 for a prop
-
I had an 88 RRC that was welded if it helps? Only know that due the ammount of time I spent staring at it trying to remove the rather worn out ball joint that wouldn't budge without attention from a gas axe

Turner do a 300Tdi service exchange engine @ £2,300
Richards do a Galv chassis for £1,500
Ashtree do a Galv bulkhead for £800
Ashcroft LT230 £495
Ashcroft R380 £495
Ashcroft front diff rebuilt £255
Simonites will do a recon Salisbury for either £700 drum braked or £800 disc braked.
Roughly £6,500 for that little shopping list and then there will be the usual springs and shox to do and it will amaze you at the cost of the fasteners and the quantities, by the time you're done and factoring labor nto it then you won't really get much change out of £15,000 TBH, labor stacks up and unless you get a very sympathetic garage owner who has an empty workshop and all the tools to do it then it might be a case of going cheap but having to pay twice to get it done properly.

Looking through the linked thread Mav I noted the air service brakes on the back of that 90 5th wheeler
-
I looked into the electric breaking kit for a tandem axle 5th wheel horse trailer I was building, whole set up for axles and the box of tricks was £1300+ change.
Zim, I know what you mean about the first time on a weigh bridge after I took the brand new D3 on ours at work, 2780kg curb weight with a full tank of diesel and it was only a 5 seater
OBA + Airco + 2nd alternator?

Going to be running front and rear winches as rear end is getting a bit of a modification once drawings are completed and card board has been sourced to replace the rear chassis crossmember, already on two batteries, thinking for a third closer to the rear winch with volt sensitive relay in line?
I want second alternator solely for the winches and aux battery usage so I can leave the standard 200Tdi alt and wiring alone and just build harnesses that can be removed relatively easily in the future should anything happen to the car.
On board air is for air suspension in the future but for the diff lock/s and airing up tyres etc,.
Aico as I'm getting old and want to enjoy a creature comfort of being cool in the summer sun whilst driving.
