  1. It is the pedal movement that troubles me, if the pistons didn't move and were seized then the pedal would just be solid.

Your inlaws know the sequence for bleeding the 200Tdis twin pipe system? there are three bleed nipples on the calipers.

  2. I tried, I was told that unless I had a business to register him under then he had to be personnen wagen(think that was the title, not got it in front of me at the mo).

Looking into what I need to do to become zelfstanding and start my own BV but for now it just goes out the bank monthly, insurance is cheaper than equivalent vehicle in Belgium though.

Still got loads of ideas on this but for what it will cost, it might be a while before vehicles and parts are purchased

  3. Lots of digging around into this and I am really miffed by the high prices for just the trnsmissions, seems I can get a whole cat B write off donor car with engine, gearbox and everything I would need for a conversion for not an awful lot more than transmission and controller :o

seems the easiest thing to do will be to think on the engines and cars using this gearbox and see where that leads me.

Original idea, buy new high rot Disco very cheap, sell engine and main box, keep transfer case and look at modern petrol engines to mate to the ZF 6 and either spud shaft and custom mating or divorced LT230 and enjoy the build and driving it once it is finished.

Still pottering with my Rusty as daily driver, and yes it hurts to pay €2200/yr tax :angry2: worth it to be this side of the border and be able to build something to drive on the road though.

  4. I was looking to the 6HP26 as I was looking for 2 extra gears, a lower starting off gear and a higher cruising gear with matching gears in the middle.

Sort of ideally not being electronic like the 4HP24 that can be just about mated to anything, the only thing letting down the 4HP24 (only in my opinion) is the higher revs at motorway cruising speeds, I found it ideal for country roads and traffic, off road it was awesome, locking it down to 1st and 2nd giving you the ability to use it as transmission breaking on slopes and the lower locked gears gave predictable grunt

What is "compushift" all about then Ross? What sort of of signal inputs are needed to run such a transmission?

  5. What does it need to work? Is an electronic transmission? or hydraumechanical? What engines can it be mated to?

And lastly, are there any decent write ups of conversions using this transmission on the web?

  6. It defies belief that people still look at "TAX FREE" as a huge selling point, now with the "MOT EXEMPT" thing it is absolutely absurd.

What it does do though, is lead to further and tighter controls on Automotive transport, the main reason why the rolling tax exemption was dropped, to stop an influx of modern cars being used as daily transport and not paying tax.

This is just a sham on wheels, would arrange a viewing and take VOSA with me to check it over

  7. FF, are you suggesting I make a diesel-electric Discovery

The very first hybrid fuel Discovery in Europe :hysterical: Next you'll be suggesting I buy a Toyota Prius :o

I was thinking about electric motors and torque converters/auto boxes about a week ago, this might get messy if I go down that road.

  8. Well, the links from AMB were rather useful and showed there to be a timing pin hole in the fly wheel and a guide hole through the right bell housing webs, took me a little bit of time to remember how to adjust a set of points its been so long.

Even got it running at, erm, well 12:30 :o Good job my neighbors are well used to my shenanigans in the back of the barn in the silly am hours

  9. John, could you imagine a Disco with a 2CV engine in it :o It is so small I could probably put 3 of them under the bonnet of the Disco :hysterical:

Mr Ian, there appears to be double cam lobes on the stub shaft thing for the points and a double ended coil, so I assuume the wasted spark comes from the single coil firing both cylinders symaltaniously??? How do you know so much? Coming out the closet now then ;) LOL only kidding.

Just killing my grey cells trying to figure out where the heck you start finding TDC on a flat twin

  10. Thanks Ralph, that just comes back as "domain expired", was hunting for a haynes but techy terms in Dutch and French are not my strong point  Looked for an English one but nothing seems to be available, or my "google" skills are as good as my citroen engine knowledge :(

  11. I have a problem that I am both embarassed and annoyed about, namely, I have a Citroen Dyane6 in my workshop for a bit of a fettle, problem being, had an offer of help from a guy who knows them well and he stripped out the points for me but now has kind of left me in the lurch with it.

Can anyone shed some light on refitting and setting the points on a Citroen 2CV/Dyane 602cc flat twin? Really stumped with this as there is no conventional dizzy and the points run off a cammed spiggot out the front of the crank case.

Will try and post some pictures.

  12. Been looking at the self standing option, but can afford to run this one and build the next one for fun, new job is part time so might be able to conjour something up being self employed or starting own business?

Next stop, Russia me thinks, it can't be any worse? Can it?

  13. The rules for the lower tax bracket exclude LPG as a fuel due to the vastly reduced revenue in taxes as the fuel is less than 1/2 the price of petrol they wouuld make nothing on it compared with petrol only, diesel vehicles get hammered for €2200/yr tax until they are 40yrs old.

Could look at a non rover V8 I suppose?

The BMW engines, are they 4pot or 6pot? I had a 323 that was a straight 6 2.5 petrol, went like s4!t off the preverbial shovel!!!! Had a fancy for a new head gasket every 30,000 miles though.

  14. Moving to the Netherlands end of the month, the rules are a little bit less restrictive there for older cars.

And interestingly enough, from 25yrs and over there is a lower tax bracket for a petrol engined car but not a diesel.

What are feasable options in terms of a modern petrol engine for a Discovery?

Please remember, this is PETROL powered and no LPG!!! Petrol is typically €1.75/ltr in Holland :(

No V8s this time around as I have been there and done that and looking to see other viable options ;)

  15. I wouuldn't worry personally, my horses do that kind of stuff regularly as well as kicking the sides too, the old Peugeot partner got the back window kicked in by a high spirited yearling stallion, I just think it adds to the "patina".

Other wise, yes that is about right pricewiseto be honest, there is a lot more topanel work than people tend to think and hence the idea that it is just a £5.99 rattle can out of halfords and job done, far from it!!!
