  1. The housing will have to be drilled for the sensor, I think I'll put it near the old timing indicator location. I can use the existing bung to locate the sensor mount. The flywheel is all clean now. I've a cold, so am only cleaning and thinking, to avoid messing stuff up!
  2. So I'll get a good friend to cad up a trigger wheel for me, and get it water cut. I think geometry will be required.
  3. I think there's space for the trigger on the flywheel. If so, I'll do that. The crank and flywheel housing are in a set position, with the crank protruding by about 5mm above the seal flange. Mirroring this to the flywheeli think I've 8 to 10mm between the flywheel and the housing. Which is plenty.
  4. Welcome, this is as good a place as any to post about your lightweight. Rust Treatment of bulkheads is the same as any mild steel. Either use zinc. Or paint. Or both. I've a galv dipped bulkhead for my lightweight, but as the hot dip process caused it to ripple I'll spend a lot of time straightening it out. This will degrade the zinc, so I'll get it hot zinc sprayed and then coated in 2 part epoxy paint. Top coat will be NATO green in satin. Now, as to chassis. How bad is it? Take a look at my lightweight thread on the members vehicle sub forum, is it as bad as that? If you get a half chassis you'll have to ensure its for a lightweight, if you want to keep it original, as the lightweight chassis can be quite different to a standard series, in particular they have a military rear crossmember, extra bracing, a different seat belt mid crossmember and extra riggers for fuel tanks. I don't think you'll get one, so you'll have to modify one, by which time it might be easier repair what you got. Post up some photos, let's have a look!
  5. Found a reference on line, I've also seen an article in a mag.
  6. My local Lidl are excellent. The staff are helpful and, something that I consider a good sign, the staff turnover is very low. They also push their staff to consider further training.
  7. On the TDI 200 I used an electric impact wrench, which removed the bolt without having to hold the flange. It's another option.
  8. Plus the huge factor of surplus electric at night costs virtually nothing. This, alone, overcomes the inefficiencies of charging a battery to charge a battery. When renewables dominate the supply having batteries will really help moderate the grid.
  9. Total topic change. How fast do lambda sensors react? If the mixture is too rich, will the sensor know instantly? Assuming the ECU knows what it is doing, of course. Just curious.
  10. Got all that stuff, Inc laptop in the workshop. I'm really looking forward to this.
  11. I like the idea, but I'm not doing high miles and it's mostly leisure and sorry commute driving, so best stick with the BP ultimate, it's the long term safe bet. Though in 30 years time I might be on the veg oil! I've a spare pump I might send to diesel Bob so he can make it veg compatible. Someday....
  12. Ah, veg oil. Gotcha. Tempted to but the occasional litre in the TDI, but I prefer to use the good diesel instead. One breakdown would wipe the savings, for the miles I do.
  13. Not entirely true, very rare but they did make them for commercial 2a vehicles for a short period. I'll see if I can find the article. No caps.
  14. It would make a great RV. Modern diesel and box, serious sound insulation. Leave the paint as is.
  15. I understand. That could be an amazing vehicle. I need to do the lottery.
  16. Are motors going to change much? Musk was hinting at significant changes in his cars electrics for this year, but how much can you do with a copper wound motor, I wonder?
  17. Thanks. I was hoping to just use the inspection holder in the flywheel housing, I think that's not going to work. I'll look again when I get the engine assembled. I'm picking up the head tomorrow, it's been cleaned and the valves set up.
  18. Thanks for the offer, I have one, from years ago.
  19. Yes, I'll use brake cleaner, and dress the threads, and I used pipe when I was taking the pistons out, figured that one fairly quick. It's a good tip, thanks.
  20. Assembly lube? How is that different from normal stuff? I've all the rest, except the plastic gauge, which I'll get.
  21. SD1. 4.6 V8. Ahhhhhh!! Sorry. I needed a quiet moment to my self.
