So been having a bit of rough measuring I think I can take 110mm off pinion length plus what I've already removed gives me 155mm or a smidge over 6"

I was looking to extend chassis by around 7" but I may get away with not lengthening at all, so all looking good on paper at least. But, there is a few issues namely splines to cut and threads to machine which is a pain as I have never done either with lathe or mill, also diff has internal threads for tightening up taper bearings so lots to do and think about regards Stephen

Just shim it like a land rover diff.

Ahhh Daan what did you go and do that for !!!! Can't get it out of my head lol regards Stephen

I did it because we are the most informative forum in existence, so it should be shared!:SVAgoaway:

Going to have to strip one of my diffs down to see how doable it is with the equipment I've got. Daan did it say how much the diff nose was shortened by regards Stephen

    Yay ! An update !

    Couple of questions please:

What thickness is the chassis material?

What did you use to put the bend in the 6mm plate?  I had the devil of a job putting a neat bend in some a while back with a hammer and an edge.

The chassis main u section is 4mm I think, the inner u section 3mm from memory.

It was actually 5mm thick plate I used for the mountings. The fold I did by clamping the short part in a vice, and sandwich it between a thick plate and a 1 metre long piece of box section. The hole sandwich held together by G-clamps and bend it by hand using the box section as a lever.

Will do some piccys if I make the spring plates, that will involve 1/4" plate.

If anyone caught Top Gear Episode 2 the other week, you'll know what I'm going on about! (The new Defender was in episode 3!)

Sounds like an interesting concept and there's certainly high profile drivers, so we'll see what happens.

It starts in 3 days and looks like you can watch it from the website or youtube:

I think I'll follow it and see how it unfolds!

There maybe other TV stations that have it judging by the website!

The exposure is amazing; better then any other offroad event, there was even a shot on the BBC 10 o'clock news. The format needs to grow, but in all I think it is a great start to this series.

Why are there so many odd ball buyers on ebay, who seemingly can change their mind to suit themselves. I recently sold something, and I mentioned the nearest town for the location, and the buyer decided to cancel the buy, as it was further to travel then expected....all 3 miles of it!

I’ve just been reading about the Roxor - which is pretty interesting...

    https://www.motorbiscuit.com/the-mahindra-roxor-was-too-much-like-a-brand-new-willys-jeep/

I love the roxor; and you can see it being popular in the US; It is only meant as a competitor to farm spec side by side vehicles, and as such is restricted to a certain speed, this is also to stop it from competing with Jeep. But there are a few you tube videos that show you how to remove the restriction and use it on the road.

It is a great start as an offroader with dana 44 axles front and rear (as per the wrangler Rubicon jeep).

Someone else's rules means,  our moderator considers tips for spotting fake Series Land rovers with a quick glance at the springs as irrelevant. And abhors the use of a dogberry for effect...

Thus it won't be detailed here, yet look at several leafers; more so, those in showground condition - you'll soon see the differences. No matter how clean it looks, no matter what your seller or owner says, those leaf-springs will refuse to hide the fact. Once you know what you're looking for, Land rover BS gets outed in seconds.

    Happy hunting.

'Tips for spotting fake land rovers' So in your opinion parabolic springs result in  a fake land rover? I fail to see your logic, and it only reinforces your position of being on Mod approval.

We play nice here, people are free to fit what ever they like to their land rovers and if you don't go along with that, Your presence on this forum becomes rather pointless.

'Land rover BS gets outed in seconds' Your BS certainly does.

It’s looking much roomier in there since the last pic I saw

What’s the plan for the chassis, clean  and galv or paint or go with the original patina effect 😁

Only because I parked the land rover outside!

Chassis is planned to get blasted, zinc sprayed and painted green. The logistics are easier to do it after the mods are done and fully welded. All in good time....

How does that weight compare to the original? and any idea on the final all-up weight?

The indenor 2.1 engine originally found in the Mahindra is 184 kg according the manual. But With the adapter plate and heavy steering box, i'd say the end result won't be much different.

According to the specs a mahindra jeep weighs 1200kg.

If the front springs don't compress enough, I might have to weigh it down with a PTO winch!
