  1. i use crimps and i solder at work i would say solder is best when done right but crimping (also when done right) is a close second, when traceing wiring faults it does seem to be crimpd connectors that are a the root of things but i guess its because someone taking the time to solder will take the time to insulate and secure the wiring
  2. yeah blank it off as they make your engine run less efficient, but leave it looking compleate for the mot boys
  3. i put a disco 300 tdi and a r380 gearbox in my 90 a few weeks ago went well, am still doing finishing touches, you have to cut seat box but am happy so far and power steering is nice to have
  4. buy a un mot'd disco (approx £500)) with lower miles take what you want sell off what you can and scrap the rest i did this and worked out that at mo im out of pocket around £40 so if it suits you its a good way as i got to drive it to check the stuff i needed
  5. tbh id just go the 5 litres again get it run up and test it, i wouldnt rekon youd be far off other option (as said already) is fill it totally with water while measuring amount run up to temp with heaters turned to hot check for leaks, this way you know its all good and antifreeze amount needed but as said id go lazy man option
  6. as long as your supplying its earth and lives, some times the teeth on the flywheel and on the starter get damaged and that can keep the starter engaged, but if your finding the main motor of the starter fine and the soleniod not working its unlikely its a ignition switch or damaged teeth as both of them wreck the main motor bearings or seize it, sounds like just a dud solenoid
  7. its varta batterys for me, would be confident to use other big name brands but i get the vartas at a very good price and the havent let me down yet

  9. when you say wired to ignition do you mean wired that when ignition on there on so always on when driving ? that would burn them out need to be on a timed relay or wired that they go off when she starts, generally glow plugs are pretty simple live and earth and they heat up, are you sure they have failed ? if they have failed that quick must be duds or getting burnt out by being on to long
  10. was it the turbo oil drain that was blocked, if so keep a eye on the turbo seals as having oil forced through them might have wrecked them
  11. theres blrc if your coming up north found them good poss delivery south worth an call
  12. yeah i think all of them are fails anyway dont worry to much about oil leaks aslong as vehicle washed before test unless its fuel thats a big no no
