  1. Showing your age mate Its been at Slyfield market in Guildford and Brooklands before Mercedes bought it. Been at Rushmoor for at least 5 years now
  2. Its that time of year again. Surrey Street Rodders are holding their annual "Wheels Day", a mix of bikes, Rods, Customs and various other types. Lots of V8's, some good traders, a good day out. Good Friday Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot
  3. Gave up and sacrificed the seal. All parts out now, and starting to rebuild
  4. Did you have to renew the stub axle race? This is going to cause some problems, theres a seal that stops you drifting it out, and also due to the seal you cant use heat
  5. I find it amazing that something thats only held on with a little wire clip can be such a pig to get off, it was back in the vice last night with me pulling on the cv end whilst beating the living daylights out of it with a rubber mallet. Still not coming off, though I could see it wasnt rusted on
  6. I stripped down the swivel housing on my 94 commercial, the cv joints are knocking like a knocky thing When we removed the stub axle we dicovered the needle bearings on the inside of the stub axle had died a very nasty death. There wasnt much oil left either (I know it should be greese). So now Ive got to change these too. How do you get them out, and the new ones back in? Also the cv joint doesnt want to give up its long relationship with the drive shaft, the manual says to use a soft faced mallet Ive moved onto a club hammer and it still wont shift These are 24spline. Please help, the only reliable vehicle Ive got left is my big yellow V8 2a
  7. The switches are earthed to the bulkhead, on a common earth. WIth the fan on, the fog switch is NOT illuminated. I will now go and check the fan/fog/wash link up. I tried earthing straight to the bat, they still flashed Im going to try a replacement switch with seperate indicator lamp, just to remove another possibility!!
  8. A mate in the tree game only uses Stihl, Huskys are great for forestry work. He cringes when he sees users without PPE, get the trousers, they arent cheap, but they are cheaper than new legs. We usually take one with a 16 or 20" bar.
  9. Well I spent some more time on it last night. I removed the wire from the switch to fan relay, at the relay end, and it still glowed. I then disconnected it at the switch end and put it straight to the bat, no glow. But the fogs switch still glowed!!!!! The switches only glow when the wash or wiper switch is turned on or off, not when they are left switched on or off. It appears there is a power surge when these items are being switched, the only relay is for the fan. The fan is earthed on the rad panel, the wipers on the bulkhead, the fogs in the rear bed drivers side and the washers on the pass side of the bed.
  10. Rollers are ok, but getting the paint thickness consistant is the hardest bit. I flatted mine between coats, the finish was better in some places than others. I wasnt too bothered though as Ive now dented every panel except bonnet, rad panel and bulkhead the tailgates bare metal at the moment!!!
  11. The lights come on when the circuit is in use, ie when the fan is on the switch illuminates. The switches are bothe the same, and in and out plus earth. If the earth is removed the switch will NOT illuminate, nor will the illuminatewd part "flash" when the wiper or washer is used. Im guessing this means that there is a short somewhere How I hate plastic that carries smoke!!!!
  12. Ive installed a completley new wiring loom, along the Lucas lines. Everything is working fine, but...... Ive moved the wahser and wiper switches into a seperate box along with a fog and fan switch. The fog and fan are illuminating switches and when the wipers or washers are switched the illuminated part of both switches flash (as though they are being powered up), but dont stay on. Ive been told its an "earth" problem, but Ive checked the earths for all these circuits and they are fine. Now Im not after advice, Im after a doer, someone who can come and sort this out. Ive run out of chickens to sacrifice, and were right out of virgins round here!!!!
  13. Have you looked or asked on the series2 club forum? Im sure this has come up recently
  14. We'll be there, selling lots of series stuff. Its the day after Wheels Day (rods and customs with proper sized V8s ), so were on for a good weekend
  15. Does anyone know where this is? Apart from the obvious answer, Bordon Whats the site like? Big or small? Is it very sandy with lots of water or is it a more technical site? Ive had enough of playing in the grinding paste!!
  16. Im with Chris on this one, maybe the Police would take more notice if they received more complaints from vehicular users though. The Police in Surrey do come out and do spot checks, but they are few and far between
  17. Took the magnetti morreli (sp?) out of the Rangie, and that works fine The prestolite will be going back
  18. In the course of a very long rebuild I fitted a new Prestolite starter motor. I then used the vehicle for two trips to the MOT station, and two laning trips (without wades). All ok so far, but then I went to the AWDC at Bordon. The starter motor worked fine all day, but when I tried it the other day, all I got was a clunk from the solenoid. So out it came, and it wasnt full of mud! Tried it on the bench, but it still wont spin up. I put the + on main bolton connector, - on the motor's body, and jumpedthe spade from the bolt. Is the motor dead? Should it be covered under waranty?
  19. Pity they dont do series and 3spd boxes anymore though
  20. Ive got a p6 V8 and need to find the engine number. It doesnt appear to be where the Range Rover one should be (near the dipstick), so does anyone know where else I should look?
  21. Ive given up, the coverage is pants. Eurosport will show anything but the Dakar snooker, tennis, sking, biathlon to name just a few.
  22. Thanks, look forward to seeing a link to Graham or pm me his contact details. Thanks
  23. Does anyone knwo of any good sprayers and bodyshops? Preferably someone who knows Land Rovers. I want to get the Discovery resprayed and tidyed up, but dont know of any reliable people around here.
