  1. As MT says loads of WD40/easol or the like for a couple of days prior to the work commencing, I did mine last year a my method was to butcher them out with hacksaws after the socket method failed making sure not to damage the faces at all and a small slither of grease and pressed mine back in at work, job done the harder part for me was getting the arms on and off the car Where abouts are you rusty i may be able to get them pressed back in if you are localish?? but most garages will have a bearing press and will probs pop them in for you for a bluey i would have thought Dougie
  2. Hi Mark, I have the same set up you are on about and can post a picture tonight if you like? This is how its fitted / routed you need to blank the existing entry off which comes in the kit and make a new entry with a 102mm cutter if i remember to make a neat job of it. Also the airbox gets mounted slightly further forward with the new brackets that they also provide in the kit. There is no flexable pipes though they are all rigid plastic (part 21 on diagram) although flexi would have proved better but i found the measurements they give for drilling the hole in the inner wing fell exactly in the centre of a round raised part of the inner wing And the template for the outer wing is excellant once i had spent ages setting it up and fixing it then checking and treble checking before i started drill the out side of my car Also you will have to remove the top turbo hose to get your small drill in for the inner bit. Hope this helps any other questions let me know. Regards Dougie
  3. lashings of WD40 / Easol / any good penertrating fluids a few times and give it time to soak in and do its job etc etc and a decent 6point socket Dougie
  4. Is the weather in manchester bothering you graham? Who didn,t turn up then cause looking at this all the bigish ones were due there !! And no quees on the off road course and not many people crowding around the stalls / hot pork bagutte stand / beer tent sounds GOOD to me Dougie
  5. Paul there is nothing around the harlech (porthmadog) area but bring yourself in-land 25miles and you are smack bang in the middle of some of the best lanes in the UK IMHO Bala has a great off road play day thingy although i have never been on it there is good feedback about them. And another 5-10 miles in from them you have some really good stuff around like the wayfarers (in LRO this month) and some slightly more demanding lanes around llangollen / chirk / owestry / llanrhaeadr-ym-mochnant / llanfylin. There is also a 'Toms farm' in rhayder LD6 5NB this is a good play day around £20ish (01597 870202) Hope This Helps if you want anymore info give us a shout, we may be able to swap info as i plan on taking my holidays down your neck of the woods towards the end of August. Regards Dougie
  6. A generous helping of Lithium grease on all the moving bits will do the trick mate Or just squirt somw WD40 in for now if you cannot access them but i,m sure you'll get in with a flexi grease gun nozzle Dougie
  7. And following on from that............. This was a contributing factor to myself thinking WTF am i doing here ! Anyhoo i have now applied for my Trades Reconigition Australia So the ball is rolling Dougie
  8. I just took mine off a ignition / switched live that i found behind the stereo it works fine Dougie

  13. Thats cause he knows you canny go anywhere else local Antone know what scrap steel is fetching (4inch pipe / some angle iron / steel wall bractets etc) before i phone around and get some quotes tomorrow?? Dougie
  14. thats the type of thing i was on about fridge you just put it a bit better ............... it just needs tweeking some more between the members and the mods to make it ' workable ' Dougie
  15. Mo is that not "text talk" that'll get corrected soon too No serious now ..... i too am a infrequent poster due to my serious lack of knowledge but i too also like to cast my eye over the threds that catch my eye and some that dont. I am one of those people that have made the silly threds that no doubt contribute to the 'duplicating of simple tasks' mention earlier. But i like many on here (back me up if you will) find this forum very informative on many levels and do not want to see it run down the pan into a 'rant and free for all' that many of the other forums have sucome to, but i feel IMHO that maybe the issue of border line OT threds (like the ones that started this thred) should maybe thrown back into the members court via a simple poll ??? 'should we close this OT thred?' This is not a request or a poll for that matter but mearly may 2p's worth that may need some further input to make it viable / workable. Lets also not forget that we are all on here for one reason, and one reason only. LAND ROVERS! please let us not fall into the demise that the rest of England seems to be regarding Policing / politics / political correctness / immigration and wreck what we have here and that is a good LR forum that works but also needs a few democratic tweeks too. Just my thoughts thats all. (and not the majority i,m sure) Dougie
  16. i had a similar type of rumbling not so long ago, I too narrowed it down to the said silly bit of rubber and its smooth as you like again now Dougie
  17. Seems like you have a pretty bad experience with crime and what not over there Bill But what are your reasons for disliking QLD so much? i'd be interested in knowing. What did they get off your car aswell mate? sounds like the broncs down there in melbourne! As for not being able to go 4X4'ing i take it there is nothing local for you? Only even when i dont get this chance to get out in the disco here there is a little place on my way to work where i can get my 'mud fix' now and again Dougie
  18. Thanks, Broadband a bit dearer but the rest seem good/cheaper, that tied in with the similar wages and slighlty less cost of living has me SOLD on the idea. Thanks again for your help, I must also apoligise to Chrisp for Hijacking this thread but like i said i,m really keen on this and hope it has answered a few of his queries too. O and look forward to you showing me the off road routes sooner than you think! Best Wishes Dougie
  19. How does the cost's of general things compare Ali? like what you paying for : Broadband.. mobile phone contract Sky tv??? can i just take my dish an decoder and position them through 180 degrees? LR parts availabilty electricity and gas sorry just getting excited now have found a good ex pat site now too so i'll be bugging them after this! regards Dougie
  20. Nice one Ali i too want this feeling thats why i,m stopping the moaning and going on about the state of our economy/nanny state/immigtration laws/weather/yob culture (there IS one)/guns & knife's/taxes/weather/lifestyle/cost of living etc etc etc Now dont get me wrong i know australia is not crime free(it was spawned from criminals after all ) but its a damn site better off than here as far as i,m concered. So its time for me to put things into action and take the plunge me thinks!! Dougie throw another and on that note............. i,m See you soon Ali
  21. What are you reasons for not taking the motor steve if you dont mind me asking? You are obviously alot further down the process than me, the figues i used earlier where from THIS Oz government website!! I accept that i may have missed some things out and am very open to criticism and opinions and best of all experience, so all advice will be inwardly digested. The £1200 i quoted for the container was what my mate paid exactly 12mths ago, but i accept that i am not sure of the size of this as he only took household items! Dougie
  22. I have seen these and they do look very neat indeed, Now i know i have jointed the two boxes but the reason for keeping the others seperate and not taking them through a manifold is so if i do have a problem with any of the axels / gearboxes i know which one has the problem because the oil/fluid will rise out of the named breather. And as for up the side of the snorkel i was sick and tired of refixing these once i had been down a tight lane or the UV light had attacked the zip tie pads that was holding them on and all of a sudden you have a load of flexi pipe flappin about your bonnet / wheel AGAIN So i have re-routed them from under the bonnet into the 'dirty' side of the air box up the snorkel and out through the grill doubled back on themselves and neatly secured to the grill pointing down Can post pics as it looks a treat in my eyes, but it will be sunday before i can get them up. Dougie
  23. OK done it...... What you paid for the car (+ any mods you have paid for not counting service items) less 5% 1st year and further 1% for each year of owenrship to max of 76% eg: £5000 inc mods is the value of my disco = $10000 exchange rate at time of shipping customs value is 40% of this>>>>>> Customs value = $4000 Customs duty @ 10% =$400 PAYABLE Plus international transport and insurance $150 Value of the taxable importation (VOTI) $4550 GST (10%) $455 PAYABLE Total = $855 (£400) not bad when you look at the cost of them over there! However there is also strict guidlines on the The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service inspects all vehicles on arrival and requires them to be properly cleaned. This is usually affected by steam cleaning. You should remove all soil and any other matter from your vehicle (including the underside) prior to its exportation to Australia. I also belive they charge a obscene amount if your truck is not immaculate and they have to do the cleaning!!! HTH this is based on a cars with a value of less than $57009 Dougie
  24. I will be keeping a very close eye on this thread as i too have had enough of this country, I am afraid to say. And with my trade (electrician) being second on Australia's Wanted list Its easy pickings for me Can virtually swap my 4bed semi single garaged house here for a 3 bed double storey house on a 700sq M plot with double garage over there I have spoken with reads90 aswell as a friend who moved more recently about this already too and think you are looking at around £1200 for a container. Dropped off at your UK address you load up then pick up at docks or can be delivered to new address. Insurance is 3% of value of container. As for the vehicles think they have to be inspected and pass of course the Oz MOT plus the import tax/duty on it (thats on my research list for tonight!) There is also strict guidlines on the sale of vehicles once they have been imported (so you canny make any big profits) I,m sure Ali will be along soon as Nige says to correect me and fill in the other blanks. Where you thinking about chrisp? We are looking around the Beenleigh area just south of brisbane, as i,m informed ther is a bit of a boom in the Queensland area at the moment so plenty of work about. Good luck Dougie EDITED Think we need to start here chrisp clicky
  25. £26 for a family of four to pitch a tent for an extra night, Must be a fancy site , Does that include breakfast delivered to your tent in the morning? Dougie
