  1. Well, I guess that a petrol is indeed different to a diesel as my lovely brand new 41mm deep impact socket doesn't quite fit. Maybe it's actually 42mm. Can't buy that though until I've sold the 41mm socket. Any takers?
  2. We were there today. Didn't see a door I'm afraid.
  3. Top day on the plain mate. Good to finally meet. Look forward to the next one.
  4. Hi, Can someone tell me what size socket I need to use in order to remove the crank bolt from a 2.25 series petrol engine? Can someone also tell me in which direction this will undo? Does anyone near Swindon have such a socket that I could borrow briefly? Thanks! Ant.
  5. PM sent. Shall we say channel 13 on CB? Failing that, 23.
  6. Turbocharger -> Nope, a different horrid corsa. All corsas are horrid. Not as horrid as nissan micras, but horrid none the less.
  7. I'd have to recommend Les also. He did the belt on mine with no fuss or bother. And the top chap even fixed my wife's horrid corsa. Hooray for Les.
  8. As a very cheap solution, a mate of mine has made one out of a large piece of rectangular box section which he retrieved from a scrap bin, and drilled a number of holes through it. He fixes it to the ground with 4 metal stakes. It's slow to set up & dismantle, but cheap as chips to make. It's effective too, I've seen it used to drag his RRC out of a number of sticky spots / high axle situations.
  9. Hi Phil, I had the exact same problem on my 200tdi 90. Turns out the fault was with the starter motor relay which is found in the fuse box. It had got wet and wasn't functioning as it should. Try swapping your relays around and see what happens. If it's any conselation, I also stripped the engine back to get at the starter, only to find the motor was actually fine. A.
  10. Ooo they're lovely, I doubt I could give them up. If I had the money I'd have them both. I hope they go to a good home.
  11. Ooo you big sceptic! I care not if it's 100% factual. It's a great story, and I really want to believe it's true as it's one of those things I wish I had the balls to do.
  12. The pics in the 200tdi cam belt change are missing, I'm guessing others are also - can we get this fixed? Kind of renders the achive useless without them. Ta, A.
  13. Yep, ditto that. I bought a spanner, chopped it in half and ground down the edges to make it fit.
  14. Good thread! Radius arm to chassis nuts = 30mm socket Radius arm to axle nuts = 24mm socket / spanners I hope I've got those right!! I'm pretty sure that's what they were on my defender. Now I'm wondering whether that's a universal size for all coiler LRs!??!
  15. I'd say it's a bit of pot luck really. I've never gone wrong with genuine stuff, but non-genuine has been a mixed bag. I've had some excellent non-genuine bits which have been far far cheaper and perfectly good enough. However, I've had some bits which were comically useless and gone straight in the bin. I know some are very scathing of britpart and bearmach, but I've had good and bad experience of both.
  16. When you say they have failed - in what way?
  17. Never heard of them. They deserve an award for worst website ever. What a pointless pile of arse it is.
  18. Arrgh - that was a typo. They cost £12 for the pair. Not £120! I would clearly be quite mental to pay that much for them!!
  19. I fitted split series type doors to my defender as a cheap replacement option for my original rotten one-piece push-button ones. I have to say that I did close to damn-all research and it was a doddle! I bought two series doors off ebay for a fiver each (both had some dings and minor rust in the frames but included the galvanised capping). I then got hold of two mint condition glazed ally door tops - the type with two sliding windows - from a breaker for £120. I got a pair of brand new anti-burst door handles (no idea which specific types, but they look identicle to yours) off ebay for £120 and a pair of door strikers of the same breaker for £3. I had to modify the doors for a hole for the lock and that was it. They all just bolted together and onto the existing hinges. If the bottoms eventually rust out, I either replace them with similar series ones or splash out on some 'genuine' (BM or Britpart) ones. I'm chuffed to bits with them as they're cheap and easy to fix / replace and certainly much cheaper than finding a decent 2nd-hand pair of rot-free defender doors. Unless you are extremely lucky that is!
  20. Yep, that's exactly what the handle is like. I've still got my original tirfor one.

  22. Cheers Les - yes please for the once over. I'll give you a call later. I drove it to Avebury and back and it feels fine. The track rod is definitely slightly bent as it now just touches the small guard thingy bolted to the bottom of the diff. I couldn't see anything else obvious, but I'll take a look. As she did it while parking it looks like it was done at slow speed, which I'm hoping is a good thing. Cracked paint on the chassis ?!?! Mud and waxoyl maybe !
  23. Hi All, Went out to the get the landy this morning and found that a neighbour had hit it, pushing it up the kerb and onto the pavement. They did the decent thing and left their details, and we are now trying to sort out how to get the damage fixed. I've had a look and all I think they have done is bent the bumper (obviously), and slightly bent the track rod (when they pushed it up the kerb I'm guessing). Is there anything else you can think of I should be looking for? We're thinking of sorting this out privately, rather than muck up his insurance. They are my neighbours after all. So far I'm thinking it's going to cost them a new bumper + bolts & fixing blocks, a new track rod with new ball joints etc and a couple of hours labour. I have to say, I'm impressed their VW van managed to push the thing up the kerb, the owner's wife was driving at the time and was trying to park it in front of mine when she did it. I think the owner thought I was going to go doo-lally when I arrived at his house as he seemed positively terrified of me! Theirs: Mine:
