Diff lock prob-slipping from high into neutral
66gaza replied to weasel_110's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
When mine was doing this it was because the bit that goes on the splined shaft was not put on in the middle and when I had it in Hi it was not properly engaged and would pop out under load. I ended up tieing it in place so that I could get home. Once home I put the Tcase into neutral took the linkage shaft off the splined shaft and put the shaft back on in the middle of the splines as it had been put on a couple of splines out and it then worked fine. Hope this makes sense. Gaza -

I currently have Cooper Discoverer tyres and I am not over the moon about there tread life so I am contemplating my next set. With the price of fuel I am also wondering if one make is better than another as far as mpg is concernd. I do know that wider tyres increase consumption and that keeping them well pumped up helps mpg but just comparing them to the same size. I understand that BFG A/ts are supposed to last a long time but how long do General AT2's last? Has anyone swapped and noticed a gain or drop in mpg? Gaza

Does anyone know if you are already in the show what it costs to get into the sortout? Gaza

Sounds like an awfull lot of gas to me!!! I have not tried it but have read about it with the view to fumigating a cummins 6BT with it. I was going to be using between 10-20% probably more like 10% as it is hard on the cylinder head gasket as it advances the timing, the more gas the harder on the head gasket. Do you have an EGT gauge? I am wondering what this has done to your egt's by running such a high % of propane. Do you carry a spare head gasket? Propane might be approx half the price of diesel but it only contains 66% of it energy. Please keep us informed as I am genuinely interested but not as brave as you. Gaza

AFAIK it is a marks adapter just resold by AA. They have a close relationship where they sell each others stuff so just buy from who ever is cheaper/easiest to deal with. Gaza

http://www.marks4wd.com/products/engine-tr...s/rrovauto.html Don't know if it needs to be 2wd or 4wd though. There was someone selling one on ebay a while back. Gaza

If you are after the 1400kg rating as we were then you are limited with alloys to the TX and ZU but ZU's only come in 7". Gaza

I have a set and so does my dad, very happy with them but the nuts are carp as the chrome soon comes off and they go rusty. We both went for the 8" dark grey ones as the white ones didnt look right to us. BTW how much are they in the US? just wondering how much we got ripped off here in blighty. gaza

My dad just bought it from withams, http://www.witham-sv.com/ the next tender is september. They might have more they might not. Not sure about weights as its parked up 30 miles away. It is very similar design suspension wise to a rapier trailer I used to have. That was about 1/2 ton empty and would carry a ton, this is obviously lighter 300-350kg would be my best guess. The track is about 6" wider than my rapier. I think it is/was a bridging trailer? Gaza

Oh Dear! what a halfshaft mess..!!

With 1/2 shaft removed and the 6 bolts that hold the stub axle to the flange removed it will come off with a clout. Gaza -

I thought disks were standard fit from 94 onwards (300tdi). so if yours is a 98 why does it have drums? Edit, Western beat me to it. Gaza -
I think too much of my lawnmower to put a K&N on it but its your motor. Gaza

It is, the same size that can be used on landrovers. Gaza

It is a 6BT from a Leyland Daf 55, 210hp and 520ft/lbs. Only done 1100 miles since conversion. Only problem so far has been fuel starvation traced to a blocked screen/mesh on the input of the lift pump. I have since fitted a a sedimenter before it, hopefully this will solve it. The filter looks like it was partially blocked before I fit it but I didn't know it was there. It drives really well in my camper. not recommended for everyone though. I have posted these pics on this site before. Not a good idea to put a rover gearbox behind it though Gaza

With the possibility of driving to Morocco next year the thought of cruise control is appealing. I have looked at Conrad Anderson they look OK but are £280 probably + the VAT . Does anyone have any experience with these kits from this firm?. Has anyone done a DIY kit cobbled together with bits from other Rovers? Is there a Genuine Rover kit for a 300tdi Defender? if so any pics? I would like a cruise that will keep a set speed automatically and turn off when the brake or clutch is applied as well as tapping the "control stick" rather than a cycle gear lever/cable. I have a defender with a mechanical cummins lump. Any and all input is appreciated. Gaza

The 2.25 diesel was on the shortlist but was pipped at the post. BTW how do you do a double quote? Gaza

The NV4500 came from High Impact as did the oil in unlabelled 1 litre bottles. I have 3 more litres of oil, not enough for an oil change. I was concerned about the LT230 which is why I put on the larger capacity finned sump but think that the NV4500 is having a fairly easy life in my application compared to what the Americans tow with there's. That is what I am trying to get him to do but he has taken alternative advice telling him that it is disabled and therefore there is no need to remove it. Gaza

I know virtually nothing about TD5's, but my Dad has one and I have been trying to persuade him to remove the EGR valve. He has asked someone whom he trusts more than me (who can blame him) and he has told him that his EGR valve is already disabled. Is that done by emoving the vacuum? I told him that it was still a restriction in the intake and that he should still replace it. So who is right and why? Gaza
