  1. I would be interested to know if anyone has had trouble with the newer ones without the holes inbetween the bushes, as I have a set of these in the garage awaiting fitting and will now wait for conclusive news that they have fixed the problem. Gaza
  2. Headdamage what are you doing for the spud shaft? I have seen/read how Jean (oilburner) has done his on pirate. Gaza
  3. I looked at some of those which appear to be these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/landrover-cranked-tr...A1%7C240%3A1318 but I am so glad I decided to pay the extra for some glyn lewis ones. Gaza
  4. I spend most of my internet time on Cummins Forums and seen too many K&N threads. A K&N negates its primary function. I use good quality oil, good quality oil filters why would I use an air filter that fails to filter air? If you run a race car and rebuild it all the time then you probably wouldn't see the damage but on a vehicle that will do lots of miles then the damage will become evident in time. If you are happy with yours then please continue to use it. I wouldn't put a K&N on my lawnmower and thats sh1te. Gaza
  5. I wouldn't use a K&N if I was given it free. Gaza
  6. I was having a look at a 300tdi today, it had been parked up about 2 years ago because of engine trouble. It sounded like it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders and making very nasty noises and putting out smoke, it would idle but very rough. There was a compression test done on it before it was abandoned and one cylinder was lowish. So It was down to me to have a look, first off I checked all the valve stem caps and all was fine or looked to me all the rockers and valves etc also looked good. Next I took out the injectors and they looked really bad on one I could only see 1 of the holes so I took them in to get sonically cleaned when I got them back I hoped it would be Ok as I have heard that a sticking/stuck injector can have compression got up the injector, so with crossed fingers I put them back in and started it up HHMMMM sounds carp as if its running on 2 or 3 cylinders so no difference. So on the strength of the previous comp test I whipped the head off for a peak. Initially all looked well, the HG looked fine couldn't see anything wrong. I went and got some petrol to pour down the ports to check the valves were sealing, again all looked good. I was now thinking I had ben too hasty whipping the head off. All the bores still had the cross hatching on them the pistons have a very slight amount of play side to side but I don't know what the tolerance is supposed to be. I turned the engine over and pistons 2 & 3 came up together but No 2 stopped just short of the top while no 3 went slightly proud, thats not right I thought. turned it a little more and No3 started going back down, no2 stayed put! I pushed on it and it dropped 3-4mm with an expensive sounding noise. So is the big end the problem and if it is with that much play will the crank have taken out too?. It was getting dark by then so will drop sump tomorrow to see the damage. Is it worth rebuilding or should I just advise a 2nd hand engine? Gaza
  7. Why don't you get your injectors pop tested? I have just had 6 Bosch ones done cost was £15 + vat it tested the spray pattern whether the injector was dribbling and pop off pressure. They had 150K on them spray was fine, no dribbling and pop off was supposed to be 260bar but they were all just under 240bar, not too bad. Being all the same is the important bit. I will be happy to run them for another 50K or so. Gaza
  8. My dad has a '89 rapier and has just bought some new doors, they came without locks but he has been told that he can buy a new set of keys/barrels for the doors and the ignition so they are all keyed the same. Is this correct and if so does anyone have the P/N? Thanks Gaza
  9. I was at Tong about 10 years ago at an Ibexfest and the Ibex infront of me gently put his front wheel on a mound to articulate the axles for a piccie when his rear procomp promptly broke in 2, the weld (I use the term loosely) broke and the eye seperated from the main body. His playday was over virtually before it started. BTW he didn't have the boots on if that helps. I had procomps on a vehicle I was building at home at the time and promptly ordered a set of OMEs and removed the Procomps ASAP. They are still brand new in the gararge to this day. I had the boots on and still do. HTH Gaza
  10. He has the air filter under the 109 wing, must be more room for it and easier with a defender wing for the other? Gaza
  11. Interesting, I'm looking for a HX40W with a t4 foot and a 16cm housing any free samples?
  12. Well after asking JL for underhood pics of his 6BT 109 my perseverance finally paid off and he kindly posted a link on one of his threads on Pirate. I don't think he would mind if I posted it up here. Gaza
  13. I have seen many threads about it on the Cummins forums I visit. Some run very high %. Cummins used to have a oil recycling system that constantly changed the engine oil whilst the vehicle was in use by taking out a small amount and replenishing it via an onboard supply of fresh oil. The old engine oil was put directly into the fuel system and burned with the diesel. I think Cummins said it was OK to run waste motor oil upto 5% but some of the Cummins guys run much higher than that on the Mechanical I/Ps anyway. Here is a link to a thread but there are many more http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/sho...light=waste+oil Gaza
  14. If it was 304 I would think they would be telling you. Gaza
  15. I can't see them selling many at that price. mine was about that in OZ dollars when they were about 2.2 to the £. I have ran an offset rear prop for a long time (LT230 with a centred rear diff) so far no probs but it is a long prop which is where I think the problem might lie if you use a shortish prop. I am after a NP205 with the round bolt pattern off a TH400 or a 4l80E both have 32 spline but one has a shorter I/P shaft not bothered which if anyone knows where I might get one from. I also have a LT230 to TH350 adapter somewhere in the garage, wasn't sure whether to buthcher the adapter for another project or sell it. Gaza
  16. Thanks for that, can you possibly tell me how far in from the mating face do the splines start? Thanks Gaza
  17. My Dad was looking for 3" I/D pipe for a stove and struggled to find any, he eventually got some from a car parts distributor as it was exhaust pipe but it was expensive and only mild. I would have got some 3" O/D SS and used an exhaust expander to open up the end/s to 3" I/D. Gaza
  18. Can anyone measure the output shaft of a LT77 of a R380 and I can work from there. thanks Gaza
  19. Hi, are all the crossdrilled input gears also longer splines for more contact? could someone who has an LT230 handy with the crossdrilled I/P gear measure from the gearbox mating face to the start of the splines, I would be very grateful. Gaza
  20. Now now Fridge I might be daft but I'm not stupid, the solar panel would just trickle charge when its parked up. Gaza
  21. Several years ago I read about Mr Sharkeys trial and tribulations with a Diesel powered trailer that he used to push his Electric car around when he went on longer trips http://www.mrsharkey.com/pusher.htm not much good to me but I like reading about people doing things differently and going out on a limb. So enstead of powering an electric vehicle with a diesel powered trailer I suppose you could push a diesel powered vehicle with an electric powered trailer and creating a true hybrid. The trailer could carry a diesel genny and/or a solar panel or just plug it in when you could. The trailer would still be able to carry other things as a normal trailer does but it would be dual purpose. How much battery power do commercial EVs have? I can already hear the cries "This blokes an idiot" any thoughts? comments? Do I just need to sit down in a darkened room? Gaza
  22. You can use a soldered 15mmX10mm reducer for plumbing, available at any plumbers for less than a £1. stick a bit of 15mm in one end and a bit of 10mm in the other and Bobsheruncle. I would solder a compression O ring on either end to stop the hose pulling off. These are also made in compression fittings. Gaza
